OnePlus 5, 5T, 6, 6T, 7, 7 Pro confirmed to get Android 10

When Google officially released Android 10 in late August, OnePlus’ software upgrade roadmap for its devices looked hazy. But at the launch event of the OnePlus 7T Pro in London yesterday, the Chinese phone maker clarified that the OnePlus 5 and every model launched after it would get OxygenOS 10, which of course, is based on Android 10. The OnePlus 5 and 5T will receive the update in the second quarter of next year, making them the last OnePlus phones to get Android 10.

The OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro ship with OxygenOS 10 right out of the box. The company began rolling out a stable version of OxygenOS 10 to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro last month but since it’s a staggered rollout, some devices are yet to receive it. For example, the OnePlus 7 Pro review unit in our office has yet to get it. According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 6 and 6T will be receiving OxygenOS 10 sometime later this month.

OnePlus, which held a launch event for its latest OnePlus 7T Pro flagship smartphone in London a few days after launching the cheaper OnePlus 7T in India, announced that OxygenOS 10 comes with numerous improvements, including smoother system animations in 150 areas of the device’s user interface. The new animations take advantage of the 90Hz display seen on the new phone. In addition, OxygenOS 10 gets an improved Zen Mode, updated Gallery app, modified customisation options, etc.

OnePlus continues to promise two years of software updates and three years of security patches on all of its newly launched devices, including the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. For that very reason, the OnePlus 3 and 3T, which received the Android 9 Pie update only in May this year, won’t be getting Android 10 officially.
