NASA successfully conducts all-female spacewalk, posts plenty of selfies

The first-ever all-female spacewalk is finally in the books. NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir stepped out into space from the International Space Station last Friday morning (October 18) to fix a broken battery charging unit on the station’s exterior structure. The spacewalk, which lasted 7 hours, 17 minutes, ended as a success for the crew aboard the space station. What’s more, the two astronauts returned to the station with a stack of interesting selfies.

According to NASA’s update, the two astronauts were successful in replacing a battery charge-discharge unit (BCDU) on the space station’s exterior walls on Friday. The BCDU is responsible for regulating the charge in the batteries that collect and distribute solar power to the orbiting lab’s systems, explains NASA. The newly installed unit is reportedly working as expected. The broken unit will be sent back to Earth during the next SpaceX Dragon resupply mission for analysis.

Both Koch and Meir posted photos taken before, after, and during their spacewalk on their official Twitter accounts. In addition, NASA published their selfies and photos taken through their space cameras. The Daily Mail raked up about fifty of those images in its recent report. Friday’s spacewalk marks Meir’s first EVA (extra-vehicular activity) and Koch’s fourth. When asked if another such spacewalk involving only women would happen anytime soon during a live interview, the astronauts said they didn’t know.

The all-female spacewalk was supposed to take place in March this year but was cancelled by NASA at the last minute owing to unavailability of spacesuits. Koch was originally slated to walk with Anne McClain but ended up sharing her first EVA with Nick Hague. McClain got her chance to walk out into space with David Saint-Jacques later in April. You can read more about that here.

Nokia 91 PureView launch delayed to Q2 2020

The Nokia 9 PureView was launched as HMD Global’s flagship for the year 2019. However, because of a dated Snapdragon 845 and a controversial penta-camera setup, the phone failed to live up to the hype it gathered over the years of its development. Most reviewers noted the device wasn’t optimal for a daily driver but it did hold a lot of potential to be so much better.

Well, it looks like Nokia has been paying heed to the thoughts of users and there is a Nokia 9.1 PureView in the works. The flagship was previously tipped to launch later in 2019 itself, but it seems Nokia has delayed the launch to the second quarter of 2020.

When is nokia 9.1 launching?

— johnny koueik (@johnnykoueik) October 20, 2019

A Twitter account named Nokia Anew claimed in a reply to another Tweet that the Nokia 9.1 PureView will launch in Q2 2020. The account has already correctly claimed that the Nokia 9 PureView would be delayed from 2018 to 2019, and there’s a good chance they’re right this time as well.

The Nokia 9 PureView launched with a five-camera setup at the back. Three of them were 12MP RGB sensors with f/1.8 aperture while the other two were 12MP monochrome sensors with f/1.8 aperture. The camera setup was developed in collaboration with Light, a firm specialising in camera technology, and the setup allowed for higher dynamic range and depth of field data. It was an interesting step to take even while most flagships adopted the ultra-wide, telephoto lens combo.

It seems Light is also working on the Nokia 9.1 PureView, but it will be interesting to see what Nokia can come up with this time. The PureView brand is known for delivering the first 41 MP 1/1.2” camera sensor on a phone with the old Nokia 808 PureView, and later the Lumia 1020 PureView with an even larger sensor and Zeiss optics. Considering the legacy at stake, there’s a lot riding on the Nokia 9.1 PureView to get things right. We’ll only know how it shapes up later next year.

Mid-range Motorola One Hyper may sport a pop-up camera design

After the introduction of the concept of full-screen smartphones last year, several smartphone manufacturers have adopted the design and brought it to their mid-range devices . While Motorola tried something different with a punch-hole camera on the One Vision, the company appears to be looking for new ways to provide its users with a full-screen display experience. Motorola is reportedly gearing up to launch its first smartphone with a pop-up camera and it may be called Motorola One Hyper.

According to Spanish Android website ProAndroid, Motorola is all set to showcase their take on the full-display smartphone. They have reportedly got their hands on the Motorola One Hyper. As for the specifications, the One Hyper may well be a budget device. It may feature a 6.4-inch 1080p panel with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Motorola One Hyper is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. It could come equipped with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

On the optics front, the Motorola One Hyper is tipped to feature a 64MP rear camera. As of now, we have seen 64MP camera smartphones from Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung. The highlight of the smartphone may be its pop-up selfie camera module, which will be the first on any Motorola phone, ever. No notch can be seen in the leaked images, but bezels are sort of big. The pictures also show a glowing ring around the Motorola logo on the rear panel. It may compensate for the loss of the notification light from the front.

The Motorola One Hyper may launch with Android 10 onboard. While it may belong to the Motorola One-series of smartphones, it may not be a part of Android One program, just like the recently launched Motorola One Macro.

The Motorola One Hyper is said to pack a 3600mAh battery. There is no word on the launch date and pricing of the One Hyper yet.

You can check for the update on your Redmi K20 by going into the settings, then head into the 'about phone' option and click on system update.  If you don't see the update immediately, then worry not. Along with the Redmi K20, the Poco F1, Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7s and the Redmi Note 7 Pro are the devices that will receive the MIUI 11 update first. These phones are a part of phase 1 and will receive the update between October 22 and October 31. Those rocking the Redmi K20 Pro will have to wait till phase 2 which is between November 4 and November 12.

Coming to the features of the update, it will rehaul the UI and the descriptor says that the visual clutter is removed and the touch controls have been improved. Users also get the option of an always-on display with dynamic themes. The descriptor reads, “Keep your screen alive with our amazing special effects” and we are looking forward to seeing these effects in action on the lock screen.

Users also get the sounds of nature, where they can “wake up to the gentle sounds of nature with our new alarm ringtones”. The notification sounds can also change dynamically. Mi Share will also make its way to the device and Xiaomi claims that this will let users “Transfer files from phone to phone at breakneck speeds”.

An interesting feature that makes its way to the device is the ability to preview a document before opening it.
