Google Pixel 4s Recorder App to be made available to older Pixel devices

By now, we all know that the Pixel 4 is not coming to India. We will not be able to check out one of the more hyped phones this year. The reason being the 60Hz SOLI Radar. The chip is prohibited in India and the Pixel 4 uses it to enable motion gestures. But there is some good news for users of older Pixel models, of which there are many. The company confirmed that older Pixel models will receive the Recorder app through a software update.

Up until now, it was thought that the Pixel 4 and 4 XL were the only phones to come with the Recorder app. The app is used to transcribe audio recordings and was exclusive to the Pixel 4 up until the announcement by Google. In a Reddit post, a Google employee confirmed that the app will be rolling out to older Pixel devices. We still don’t know when the update will be rolled out or which models will receive the update first. The post said,” Thanks for expressing interest in the Recorder app. We plan to roll it out to older Pixel devices in a future software update”.

The app itself used machine learning to transcribe audio while recording. This will make it easier for users to search for audio clips and other such audio queries. You could theoretically even search for bits of music and even sounds like an applause. As of right now, the app only has support for the English language but we’re sure that once the app rolls out to a mass audience, we sill start seeing different language packs. The one thing that separates this Recorder from the pack is that it will even function without an active internet connection.

Intels 10th generation Comet Lake desktop CPUs leaked

Intel’s 10th generation processors have so far only been seen in mobile devices, but still have been exciting in their own right. Intel has had some challenges locking down their 10nm lithography process, but finally, the company came through with the 10th generation mobile processors. However, Intel has been fairly quite about their 10th generation desktop processors. Turns out, a massive leak reported by WCCFTech has revealed everything there is to know about the upcoming 10th generation Comet Lake desktop processors.

Meet LGA 1200

The new 10th generation Comet Lake CPUs will require a new motherboard with the LGA1200 socket. The new socket is the same size as the  LGA1151 socket, but there are subtle changes that make Comet Lake CPUs mechanically and electrically incompatible with the LGA 1151 socket. The LGA 1200 will also have a higher pin-count and will not be backwards compatible with Intel’s CPUs. The 400-series boards will come with multiple chipset options, with he Z490 being aimed at the enthusiast user and the W480, Q470 and H410 being aimed at more mainstream users.

New CPUs abound

The 10th Generation Comet Lake line up will include 12 Core-series processors alongside 2 new Celeron chips and 2 Pentium G processors. The flagship processor leaked so far is the Intel Core i9-10900. The chip will have 10 cores,20 threads, a base clock of 3.0GHz and a boost clock of 5.1GHz. The leak highlights that there is a K-variant of the i9 as always, but doesn't reveal its clockspeed, base or boost. The entire list of the CPUs and their leaked specs are below.

Expected Release Date

Intel is expected to announce the new Comet Lake CPUs at some point next year. The leak does not specify a timeline, so far.

Apple TV+ launches in India, everything you need to know

Apple TV+, the company’s long awaited streaming service is finally love across the world. Apple TV+ also marks a shift in Apple’s long standing persona of being a “walled garden” as it becomes available across a plethora of devices other than Apple. If you’ve already exhausted the catalogue on other streaming services and need something new to binge on, Apple TV+ just might provide you with the fix you’re looking for. The best part, you don’t need to own an Apple device to get started. Here’s everything you need to know.

What devices does Apple TV+ work on?

The biggest takeaway from the launch of Apple TV+ is the fact that it is not an iOS or even an Apple device exclusive service. Apple TV+ will streaming through its own app which can be installed on the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, and of course, Apple TV. Besides that, here’s a list of other devices you can watch Apple TV+ content on:

Samsung TVs Roku devices Amazon Fire TV Stick AirPlay 2 enabled TVs from LG and support to Vizio TVs coming soon.

For an exhaustive list of all the specific models supported, you can check out Apple’s support page here.

What about Browsers?

An other sign of Apple really wanting its streaming service to succeed is the fact that you can streaming Apple TV+ content on a variety of browsers as well, which means, even in Windows. Just go to tv.apple.com to start watching Apple’s newest shows.

How much does Apple TV+ Cost?

Apple TV+ is a subscription service that launched for a price of $4.99/month in most countries. However, in India, Apple has taken a differential pricing approach and priced the service at just Rs 99/month. If you have family sharing set up, then the single subscription can be shared with up to 5 people in the family sharing group, much like the Apple Arcade subscription.

How Can I get Apple TV+ for Free?

When Apple announced their streaming service, they also said that a number of users will be able to avail a year-long subscription for free. This is available to those customers who purchase any “new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac capable of running the latest iOS,iPadOS, tvOS or macOS purchased after 10 September 2019, from Apple or an Apple authorised reseller.” You do need to update it to the latest version of iOS, macOS or tvOS.

What does the Apple TV+ Catalog include?

Apple TV+ launches with eight shows commissioned by Apple exclusively for their streaming service, which are available right away. This includes shows like See, starring Jason Momoa and the Morning Show. Jennifer Anniston’s return to the television space in a big and new way. There’s also a less-talked-about show called Ghostwriter, about a ghost who haunts a local bookstore and starts creating fictional characters and releasing them into the world. The Apple TV+ website lists more shows are on the way.

The Catch

If you subscribe to Apple TV+, you only get access to the content created specifically for the streaming service. This does not include any of the movies or TV shows that otherwise show up in the Apple TV app. Those continue to be a separate, paid entity, either to be purchased or rented. Again, this feels like a very similar approach that Apple took with Apple Arcade, creating a separate, curated catalog of content available through the subscription while keeping the normally available content separate.
