TikTok developer reveals its first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 Plus

ByteDance, the developer of the famous short-video app called TikTok, has quietly revealed its first smartphone. Called Jianguo Pro 3 (or ‘Nut Pro 3’), the flagship-grade smartphone is currently on sale in the Chinese market for a starting price of 2,899 yuan (Rs 29,051 approx) under the Smartisan brand name. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, the Jianguo Pro 3 allows the user to access Duoyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, right from the lock screen.

According to Smartisan's product page, the Jianguo Pro 3 is available in three variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. The Jianguo Pro 3 sports a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Its back panel is home to four cameras, including a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.75, 13MP ultra-wide sensor, 8MP telephoto lens, and a 5MP super-macro lens. The selfie camera is a single 20MP unit with an aperture of f/2.0.

Powered by a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ 18W fast-charging, the Jianguo Pro 3 runs Smartisan OS 3.0 that's based on Android 9 Pie. The phone is sold in China in black, white, and ‘Matsutake’ (mushroom green) colours. According to a recent report by Abacus News, the native camera app in the phone contains special effects and filters found in TikTok. “These can be applied to videos of any length, unlike TikTok videos, which can only last up to 60 seconds.”

According to a statement received by Reuters back in July from a ByteDance spokesperson, the Jianguo Pro 3 is a “a continuation of earlier Smartisan plans, aiming to satisfy the needs of the old Smartisan user base.” Founded in 2012, Smartisan is a “struggling” Chinese smartphone manufacturer that transferred some of its patents to ByteDance to keep the brand name going. At this point, we don't know whether the Jianguo Pro 3 will come to the Indian market.

Under the offer, one could purchase the JioPhone for Rs 699, down from its original price of Rs 1,500, and this offer was originally supposed to be valid till October 27, 2019. Now, the telco has extended this offer so that the JioPhone can be purchased with a Rs 801 discount till November 2019. In addition, the previously available additional data benefits worth Rs 693 will also remain in effect. Do note that the minimum recharge amount needs to be Rs 99 per month to avail the benefits.

Jio has apparently extended the offer saying it received an ‘overwhelmingly’ positive response from consumers. “Under the Jio Phone Diwali Offer, Jio Phone witnessed an unprecedented record demand during the past 3 weeks, due to which Jio has decided to continue the onslaught for 1 additional month. The feature phone users who were not able to join the Jio movement during the Jio Phone Diwali offer, now get another month to avail the benefits of the festive offer and migrate to Jio Digital Life”, the company said in a statement. Google Maps goes incognito on Android: Heres how you can enable it

There are a number of reasons why Incognito mode in Google Maps might prove to be useful. Maybe you're exploring your next holiday destination on a shared device and want to keep a lid on it for now. Maybe you're making a quick jaunt to a nearby cake shop to surprise your significant other. Whichever be your reason, Incognito mode is officially available on Google Maps for Android. And here's how you can go about enabling it:

To enable Incognito mode in Google Maps on your Android device, open the app, then click on your profile picture in the search bar on top, and tap ‘Turn on Incognito mode’. Follow the same steps to turn Incognito mode off. Since Google is rolling out this new feature in stages, there's a chance the Incognito mode feature is still not available on your device. You should see it crop up in Maps in the next few days though. Do note that this feature is available only on Android for the moment.

According to Google's support page on the subject, turning on Incognito mode in Maps disables the following in-app features: Commute, For You, Location History (on the entire device, not just on Maps), Location Sharing, Notifications and messages, Search history, Search completion suggestions, Google Maps Contributions, Google Assistant microphone in Navigation, Offline Maps, Your Places, and Media integration.

“During Maps incognito mode, the Google Assistant microphone isn’t available in navigation, but “Ok Google” will continue to work as expected. Google Assistant is a system feature that isn’t a part of Incognito mode for Maps, so any information you share with it will be saved as usual,” warns Google. Incognito mode was first introduced in Google's Chrome browser. It allows you to browse the internet without leaving a trace of your browsing history on the app. Google hasn't mentioned when iOS users will get this feature in Maps.

Motorola Razr 2019 live image surfaces ahead of imminent launch

Motorola is expected to announce its first foldable phone at an event it is hosting on November 13. The upcoming handset is rumoured to feature a clamshell design, which is touted to resemble the iconic Moto Razr V3. We recently came across some leaked renders of the phone, which gave us an idea of how the company might implement a folding design on the alleged Motorola Razr 2019. Now, the smartphone has been spotted in the wild with a live image posted on Weibo. While the live image barely shows what’s on the device’s screen, its overall design does seen quite similar to what we came across in the previously leaked renders.

The smartphone in question can be seen featuring a tall display with a notch on top. On the bottom is a thick module, which has a button and it is speculated that the button can double up as a fingerprint sensor. It is tough to discern from the image but the phone seems rather slim when it is unfolded, however, the bottom module seems to represent the thickness of the phone. In its folded state. It is a good sign if the handset is already in live testing and is being used as this signifies the device’s imminent launch.

As mentioned above, we previously came across some new renders of the Motorola Razr. The device quite closely resembles the original Razr V3 from 2004. When folded, there’s a small touch screen on top of the phone’s upper half and below is the same thick module that sports a button. An image of the phone shows how it looks when completely unfolded and it shows off its hinge and a tall inner display. There’s a regular square-shaped notch on the device’s display.

Samsung A51 could be manufactured right here in India: Report

After launching the galaxy A50s in India just a few weeks ago, Samsung is reported to be hard at work on the new Samsung Galaxy A51. Scheduled to be released in 2020, the Galaxy A51 is already making its way down the production line. According to report the Galaxy A51 is being manufactured at the company’s manufacturing plant in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. What this means is not known at the moment, but one thing we can surely say is that the phone should be released in the first quarter of next year.

Just recently, a Samsung phone was spotted on Geekbench. Dubbed the SM-A515, most experts believed that this phone was the Samsung Galaxy A51. The numbers on the listing were also rather interesting. The A515 scored 323 in the single core test. It also scored 1,185 on the multi core tests. Judging by those results, one could assume that it will be powered by the Exynos 9611 SoC. The Galaxy A50s is also powered by the same chip, so they shouldn’t be too far apart in terms of processing speed.

The phone could also ship with Android 10, right out of the box as well. According to listings and reports, the Samsung A51 could come in two variants. One with a 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB of storage and one with 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone could well feature the Samsung A50s' triple camera setup as well. Not much is known at the moment but we will know more in the near future.
