Airtel Xstream Fiber Rs 999 plan compared with JioFiber Rs 849 pack

Airtel and Reliance Jio, are both competing on almost equal footing right now in the home broadband segment. While JioFiber came in with offers and the promise of higher data at increased internet speeds, its rivals adapted and announced revised plans that could take on the competition. When we talk about home broadband plans, the sweet spot for most consumers is most likely around the Rs 1,000 mark. Airtel offers the ‘Entertainment’ pack priced at Rs 999 in this segment while Jio has the Rs 849 recharge option. Here, we take an in-depth look at both the plans and compare them to provide you with a better idea about which one might suit your needs.

Speeds, high-speed data and FUP details

With the Airtel Xstream Rs 999 plan, one will be able to access the internet at speeds of up to 200Mbps, while JioFiber offers up to 100Mbps speeds with its Rs 849 plan. While Airtel certainly offers faster speeds, one gets 300GB high-speed data for a month. With the JioFiber plan, the company offers 200GB data and an additional 200GB extra. After exhausting this data, one will be able to access the internet at 1Mbps speeds.

Voice, video, gaming and more

There was a time when getting a broadband plan simply meant internet access at home. However, with the increasing competition, telecom companies are offering additional benefits to entice customers. Both Airtel and Jio offer free voice calling with their respective fiber plans. However, Jio has a leg up against the competition as it also offers free video calling, gaming, home networking (file sharing) and device security options.

Free OTT apps subscription

You got yourself a high-speed home broadband connection but what good is it if you don’t have access to some of the leading online media streaming platforms? Both Airtel and JioFiber offer a free subscription to some of the leading OTT apps. Airtel Xstream users will offer 12 months of free Amazon Prime subscription and three months of free access to Netflix. Jio has not yet announced which OTT apps one will get a subscription to, with its JioFiber service.

Redmi K30 launch likely to happen in 2020, hints company CEO

Redmi, which often rolls out tiny bits of information on future smartphone launches on social media, recently revealed its plans to launch the Redmi K30. The successor to the Redmi K20, the Redmi K30 is expected to be equipped with 5G connectivity and a dual selfie camera setup. According to a recent social media post published by Redmi CEO Lu Weibing, the launch of the Redmi K30 will happen only in 2020, and not this year as we had anticipated.

Weibing recently wrote about Redmi’s participation in the China Mobile 2019 Global Partner Conference on Chinese social media platform Weibo. He ended his post with a reference to the upcoming Redmi K30. Translated using Google, his message reads, “In 2020, Redmi is a 5G pioneer. See you at K30!” It’s a clear hint that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer intends to launch the Redmi K30 only in 2020, and not this year.

From what we’ve learnt so far through previous Redmi teasers, we know the Redmi K30 resembles the Samsung Galaxy S10+ quite a bit, at least on the front face. It sports a dual selfie camera setup inside a ‘pin hole’ on the top right corner of the display. We also know that it’s 5G-powered. In fact, the Redmi K30 is said to become the “most affordable 5G phone” when it goes on sale.

Apart from the aforementioned details, we know nothing else about the Redmi K30 at the moment. Its screen could be the same as or larger than the 6.39-inch Full HD+ unit on the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. It is definitely expected to run MIUI 11 right out of the box. MIUI 11 is the latest version of Redmi’s proprietary Android-based software. It was recently released and rolled out to Redmi models such as the Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, and Redmi 4. You can read more about that here and here.

No, the Redmi Note 8 Pro Snapdragon 730G variant is not in works

Last week, a Redmi phone with model number M1912G7BE / BC received approval from the 3C authority of China. A phone with the same model number was certified by the National Radio Agency of China in October.  While there is no information on what the phone might be called, some reported that it could be a variant of Redmi Note 8 Pro with Snapdragon 730G chipset. We speculated it to be a Poco F1 successor, the Poco F2. Now, the Redmi brand and Vice President of Xiaomi, Lu Weibing said in reply to a comment about the Redmi Note 8 Pro Snapdragon 730G chipset that the phone does not exist.

Nope! https://t.co/p7K3rcmyEb

— Anuj Sharma (@s_anuj) November 16, 2019

Lu was backed by Xiaomi’s Chief Marketing Officer Anuj Sharma, who said that the company is not working on any such phone. Hence, the Redmi M1912G7BE / BC is confirmed to not be the Redmi Note 8 with Snapdragon 730G chipset. The certification suggests flagship-level specifications of the device. The smartphone does not have 5G support. Therefore, it may not be a Redmi K30. It leaves us to believe that the said smartphone could be the long-rumoured Poco F2.

Recently, a case for the Poco F2 was spotted on the Spigen website, which showed a phone that looks a lot like the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro. The website briefly listed Liquid Crystal and Rugged Armor cases for the unreleased Poco F2. The case maker has pulled the Poco F2 case listing as of the reporting of this story.

According to the renders, the upcoming Poco phone could feature a notch-less display and a pop-up selfie camera. It may have triple rear camera support and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Poco F2 is tipped to sport a polycarbonate body like the original Poco F1. It may support 27W fast charging as well.

Readers are suggested to take the Poco F2 information with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed yet.
