Redmi K30 with 5G support will launch in December: CEO

The Redmi K30 is a long-rumoured device. The rumours surrounding the phone first started doing the rounds on the internet in August. Since then, the device has been on and off the rumour mill. Recently, it was reported that the Redmi K30 5G launch has been delayed to January. However,  at the Xiaomi Developers Conference, Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO has confirmed that the Redmi K30 5G model will be launched this December.

According to Chinese media, Jun confirmed that the launch timeline of the Redmi K30 5G model at the Conference. He said that the Redmi K30 5G variant will launch in China in December. However, this refutes the claims of Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing of the phone’s launch being delayed till 2020. There is also a possibility that Redmi K30 5G variant will launch next month, but it might be made available to buy in 2020.

To recall, Xiaomi has already said that it will launch over 10 5G phones in 2020. It could be one of the first companies to launch 5G phones next year. For reference, Xiaomi has already launched two 5G phones - the Mi Mix 3 5G and Mi 9 Pro 5G - in the local market this year. The demand is said to have exceeded Xiaomi’s expectations and led to supply chain issues. Therefore, it has prompted the company to launch 5G models for the high, middle, and low-end price tiers, next year.

Lei has previously said, “People in the industry fear that next year 4G models won’t sell, this is a step you have no choice but to take, so we hope that operators can speed up their expansion of 5G base stations.”

China is leading the way in terms of 5G support as the Chinese carriers have already started accepting pre-subscriptions for 5G. Furthermore, around  9.3 million users have signed up for next-generation communication technology even before it is rolled out in China.

The ThinkBook 14 and 15 have an FHD anti-glare display

Rahul Agarwal, CEO and MD, Lenovo India stated, "The new wave of business leaders expects their workplace devices to do more but with a minimalist look. ThinkBook is a perfect fit to fill this existing product gap in the SMB marketplace".

The notebooks are attractive to look at and also sport a premium feel in-hand. We primarily got up and close with the ThinkBook 14. Wrapped in an anodized aluminium chassis and sporting an overall metallic finish with slim L/R bezels, the ThinkBook 14 and 15 come equipped with a bunch of features that seem like a mix between consumer-friendly and business-oriented. They come equipped with a Type-C port for charging as well as data transfers, Skype Hot Keys that allow users to answer and decline Skype for Business calls with a single button, stereo speakers with integrated Dolby Audio, 12 hours of battery life and RapidCharge technology that charges the devices up to 80% in an hour.

A plethora of I/O ports - an ethernet port, HDMI port, two USB Type-C ports (one for charging and data transfer), a USB 3.1 Type-A port and finally an audio jack

Lenovo also prides itself in the business-grade services they provide to the users of these business notebooks, including international warranty and continued support over a period of 5 years to SMBs using the ThinkBooks. Jio effect: Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel to increase tariffs from December 1

The telecom industry is as competitive as ever and ever since Reliance Jio entered the market, things have not been going well for rival telcos. The Vodafone group recently debunked the ongoing rumours that it will soon exit India but both, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea need to pay a combined amount of over Rs 80,000 crore in dues, which has been ordered by the Supreme Court. Now, in a bid to make up for losses, generate revenue and get out of the financial slump, the two telcos have announced of increasing ášheir current tariffs rates, from December 1.

In a separate media statement, both Vodafone-Idea and Airtel have announced that their tariffs will increase from December 1, 2019. Vodafone says that the mobile data charges in India are the cheapest in the world, even when data consumption and demand is going up. “To ensure that its customers continue to enjoy world class digital experiences, Vodafone Idea will suitably increase the prices of its tariffs effective 1 December 2019,” Vodafone said in a statement.

Similarly, Airtel mentioned how the telecom sector requires intensive continuous investments to keep up with fast-changing tech. “It is, therefore, extremely important that the industry remains viable to support the vision of Digital India. Accordingly, Airtel will appropriately increase price offerings in the month beginning December,” Airtel’s statement reads.

Both the telcos have not yet revealed where the increased tariffs will be implemented and how it will affect their consumers. Prices of prepaid and postpaid recharge options can be expected to increase, but nothing is confirmed yet. As mentioned earlier, the news of increasing tariff comes soon after Vodafone Idea and Airtel reported of combined losses of over Rs 80,000 crores in the September quarter, which are a result of a recent Supreme Court ruling on statutory dues that they need to pay.

Samsung Camera hints at 8K video recording support, new Directors View and more

Samsung Galaxy S11 may launch sometime in February next year, but the rumours have already started flooding in. The smartphone is tipped to sport a next-generation 108MP camera sensor. While many of us were assuming that Samsung will use the recently unveiled ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor, there could be a second-generation 108MP sensor in development. The rumour may end up being true as a teardown of the Samsung Camera app has revealed a mention of 108MP resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio.

The new code in Samsung Camera’ APK was found by XDA Developers, and it has also revealed that Samsung Galaxy S11 could come with the capability of shooting 8K videos. Samsung Exynos 990 chipset supports 8K@30fps video decoding/encoding capabilities. According to the report, the Camera APK also hints at new features such as Director's View, Night Hyperlapse, Single Take Photo, Vertical Panorama, and custom filters.

Director’s View is said to let users lock onto a subject in view, change who’s in the closeup, and also tap the thumbnails on the left to switch between camera lenses, and finally tap the one on the right to jump close-up on a subject. On the other hand, Single Take Phone mode could allow users to shoot the scene in a series of pictures and short videos, pan around slowly for about 15 seconds to capture multiple photos in the scene, process all the photos/videos captured, and finally show the collection.

Vertical Panorama is as the name suggests, while Night Hyperlapse mode can help users capture hyperlapse with night mode. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S11 is rumoured to sport a quad rear camera setup with support for a 5x optical zoom module.

The Galaxy S11 is said to come equipped with a flat screen. Although, side bezels could be slimmer than the Note10 lineup.

Valve is developing a new Half-Life game and it isnt Half-Life 3

Valve has taken to Twitter to announce a new Half-Life game. The tweet comes from @valvesoftware and reads, “We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10 am Pacific Time. Can’t wait to share it with all of you!” Apart from the tweet, there are no more details known about the game. Since it will be a “flagship” VR game, expectations are high from the developer. Valve made history and redefined the first-person shooter genre when they launched a game called Half-Life. With the sequel, expectations were high for what an FPS story-based game could do. Not to mention the fact that Valve has a series of great shooter franchises under its belt including Team Fortress, Portal and Left 4 Dead. However, one thing to note is that all these games got a sequel but never became a trilogy. We have seen them stop at Team Fortress 2, Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.

Even with Half-Life 2, gamers were promised 3 expansions but got only two, the second of which ended at a cliffhanger involving Alyx. Whether Half-Life: Alyx is a continuation to the saga, a prequel or a new story altogether is something we will come to know on Thursday night at 11:30 pm IST when more details of the game are announced.

One thing to note is that Half-Life was a genre-defining game. From Half-Life to Dota 2, all the games Valve has developed have made a mark on the gaming industry. Valve also pioneered Steam, the one-stop-shop for gamers to buy digital games.

With VR, we are yet to see a killer experience that cements VR as a must-have device for an immersive gaming experience. Sure, there are a lot of great VR games, but no killer AAA game that makes gamers want to jump and invest in the platform. Another question that remains to be answered is what VR platforms the game will launch on.

We aren’t getting Half-Life 3 or Half-Life 2: Episode 3 but we are getting a new experience in the Half-Life universe and that is a silver lining in a world longing for any semblance of Half-Life.
