Motorola One Hyper with a 32MP pop-up selfie camera to launch on December 3

Motorola has teased a smartphone launch event for December 3 in Brazil. The teaser image shows a smartphone with a pop-up camera. There is only one smartphone from Motorola rumoured to house a pop-up selfie camera - the Moto One Hyper. Earlier reports of the smartphone hint at a 6.39-inch IPS LCD display with a Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, the device is speculated to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Chipset. The selfie camera, which will be housed in a pop-up mechanism, similar to what we’ve seen on The OnePlus 7 Pro, will house a 32MP selfie camera. The rear of the device is expected to have a 64MP camera accompanied by an 8MP depth sensor. It could also sport 128GB built-in storage. The only piece of information missing is the pricing and colour options. There is also no information on whether the device will make its way to India.

Speaking of Motorola, the company showcased its foldable phone called the Razr, and just like the timeless slim smartphone, the new Razr is full of nostalgia. It brings back the classic flip design that made the original Razr so popular. Not to mention that Shahrukh Khan used the original Moto Razr in the remake of Don, making the smartphone all the more desirable. The 2019 foldable Moto Razr has a price tag of $1500 in the US which translates to roughly Rs 1.10 lakhs.

Coming to the specs of the new foldable Razr, the smartphone has a 6.3-inches foldable display with a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels. The display is P-OLED with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When folded the smartphone has a 2.7-inch display with a 600x800 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it has the Snapdragon 710 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage. A 2510mAh battery with 15W TurboPower fast-charging support powers the entire package.

BSNL returns with Rs 1,999 prepaid plan, offers 250 minutes, 3GB data daily for 365 days

A few days ago, we reported that BSNL had reintroduced the Rs 1,098 prepaid mobile plan in many Indian states with unlimited data and calling minutes. Now we learn from a recently published TelecomTalk report that the well-established state-run telecom operator is bringing back yet another one of its popular prepaid plans. Called the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan, it comes with a validity of 365 days. During this period, the subscriber will enjoy 250 minutes of calling time and 3GB of data daily.

It’s worth noting that the 250 minutes of daily calling minutes on the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan is valid even on calls made to Mumbai and New Delhi numbers, making the plan an even more attractive option for loyal BSNL prepaid patrons. When the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan is active, the user will get to use 3GB of data every day at full speed. However, if they exhaust the data cap within a day’s time, their internet speed will be reduced to 80kbps until the cap is reset again at midnight.

In addition, subscribers of the Rs 1,999 prepaid plan get access to BSNL’s library of PRBT (personalised ring-back tone) with unlimited track changes. They also enjoy a free one-year subscription to SonyLIV’s range of video-on-demand entertainment channels. TelecomTalk points out in its report that there are other recently introduced BSNL prepaid plans as well. For example, users in Chennai can subscribe to the Rs 97 prepaid plan, which offers 250 minutes of calling time and 2GB of data daily for 18 days.

Another TelecomTalk report from earlier in the year says that BSNL recently installed 54,000 towers between 2018 and 2019 to improve its 4G network coverage, “which is more than what BSNL had deployed in the past three years combined”. BSNL’s recently introduced Rs 1,098 prepaid plan comes with unlimited calling and data for 84 days. It also offers 100 free SMS messages per day. You can read more about that plan here.

Samsung may drop Qualcomms Ultrasonic Fingerprint technology

The next generation of Samsung smartphones may not feature Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensors. According to a report by the Korea Times, the move may be in response to growing security concerns regarding the sensors and the publication quotes an analyst who suggests that the South Korean manufacturer may abandon the tech for its future devices.

“Samsung Electronics applied the ultrasonic fingerprint scanners to its new smartphones despite lingering security concerns," a source told the publication, “The latest security issue involving the new technology could cause other smartphone manufacturers to hesitate to adopt it.”

The optical fingerprint sensor used by phones like the OnePlus 7 creates a 2D map of the fingerprint, which is then used to authenticate the user. Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor creates a 3D map to authenticate the user.

This report comes just a few weeks after it was reported that certain banks were blacklisting Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 phones from either downloading their official apps, or using biometric authentication. Back in April this year, a video surfaced that showed the Galaxy S10 being fooled by a 3D printed fingerprint pattern. To create the 3D map, the user claimed to have taken a photograph of his fingerprint from a wine glass with a smartphone, and then used  software to calculate the depth information. The data was then used to 3D print the fingerprint pattern on a transparent strip.

Samsung has filed a patent for a clamshell foldable tablet

After the release of the Samsung Galaxy Fold earlier this year, Samsung have been looking at how they can implement foldable screens into its other products. Just recently, Samsung had patent listing from the European Union Intellectual Property Office that reveals that the Korean tech giant is looking at releasing a Tablet that comes with a flexible screen. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, this device could feature a clamshell design as opposed to a horizontal fold.

First reported by LetsGoDigital, the Galaxy foldable Tab will be slightly larger than the Galaxy Fold. It’s not surprising that Samsung have decided to move forward with foldable devices since this seems to be the coming trend. Both Huawei and Motorola have already thrown their hats into the foldable phone market. Surprisingly, the Samsung folding tab resembles a Motorola Razr more than the Samsung Fold. A deeper look at the patent shows a full body screen on the front. This could mean that Samsung could be implementing an in-display camera on the display itself.

It looks like Samsung are going full steam ahead with this concept and why not? A smaller tablet could only mean good things. You’ll save space and add another layer of portability to the device. A tablet that fits in your pocket? Samsung seems to think so. As of now, the device is still just an idea. All we can confirm is that the Korean tech giant has filed for a patent for this particular foldable device in the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Office database.
