Halo: Reach returns to the PC after 12 long years, makes its way to the Top 5 games on Valve

PC gamers have waited 12 long years for Halo: Reach to hit the platform and finally, the game has made its return. Just as the game was a hit, back in the day, Steam users welcomed the return of Halo; Reach with open arms and 100,000 players playing the game simultaneously, putting it firmly on the top 5 games on the service.

It’s been a little too long and even though Halo: Reach is the first Halo game to make it to the PC, 343 Industries have made it clear that more Halo games will be coming to the platform. Taking the franchise over from Bungie, 343 Industries plans on releasing the Halo: Master Chief Collection on the PC. Microsoft has also confirmed that all the games in the collection will be playable in 4K 60 fps. Just an added bonus, the multiplayer modes will also be playable at 4K 60 fps. Mouse and Keyboard support is also sorely welcome as playing an FPS with a controller is just not the ideal way to go about it.

Halo: Reach has also been released on the Xbox One today but the preferred way to play the game would definitely be the PC. Halo: Reach is currently out for Rs 349 but if you’re smart, you’ll shell out Rs 899 for the Halo: Master Chief Collection which includes Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4.

Qualcomms new 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is bigger, can scan two fingers at the same time

Qualcomm has announced the next generation of its Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor called the 3D Sonic Max. the announcement came amidst the reveal of the next generation of Qualcomm SoCs at the Annual Qualcomm Tech Summit in Hawaii. The biggest take away from the announcement is the significantly increased area of the sensor.

The new 3D Sonic Max sensor from Qualcomm sports an area of 20mm X 30mm. the current ultrasonic fingerprint sensor found in the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 in comparison measures just 4mm X 9mm. This puts the new sensor at roughly 17 times the size of what has been available in the market for now. While the use of ultrasonic waves in of itself has been a fairly reliable way of unlocking devices, the small sensors were the weakest link in the chain.

Earlier this year, it was shown how any fingerprint could be used to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone, with the vulnerability coming down to the tiny size of the fingerprint sensor. The 4mm X 9mm size was only able to register and capture a small part of the actual fingerprint, making it easy to spoof. With the bigger sensor, Qualcomm says that data points for authentication will go up, making spoofing this new hardware far more difficult. In addition, Qualcomm says that the sensor also supports authenticating two fingers at the same time, which OEMs could implement for even more secure unlocking. In addition to measuring the ridges on the finger for authentication, Qualcomm says that thanks to the increased surface area, the sensor can also measure the distance between the tip of the finger and the interphalangeal crease (those lines on your fingers) as an additional layer of authentication.

The biggest beef people have had with the ultrasonic sensor on the S10 and Note10 has been the infuriatingly small active area, often requiring poking and prodding before you get it right. While Qualcomm has not revealed the OEMs that will be launching phones with the new 3D Sonic Max sensor, it has said that they expect the technology to be commercially available by 2020.

Realme announces it will be the first to launch phones with Snapdragon 865, Snapdragon 765G SoCs

Today, Qualcomm took wraps off its latest mobile platforms - Snapdragon 865, 765 and 765 5G. While companies like Nokia, Oppo, Xiaomi and Motorola are already on board to launch smartphones with the new chipsets, Realme has announced that it will be the first smartphone manufacturer to launch handsets powered by the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765G SoCs. The latest announcement comes from Realme's Chief Marketing Officer, Xu Qi Chase. He took to Weibo to announce, “Realme will be the first to carry 865 and 765G” (machine translated).

Notably, Xiaomi confirmed during the launch of Qualcomm’s latest SoCs that it will launch the Mi 10 flagship powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC in Q1 in 2020. Oppo has also said that it has plans to launch a Snapdragon 865-powered phone in the first quarter of 2020. Now, Realme has joined their likes and claimed that it will be the first to introduce the flagship Snapdragon 865 and mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipsets to the consumers.

Most smartphone manufacturers are jumping on the 5G bandwagon in preparation for the launch of the network. While the phones mentioned above could make their way to China within the next two months, it is unclear if they will launch in India since India does not have 5G infrastructure yet.

Earlier, Realme X50 made its way to the rumour mill. The specifications of Realme X50 have allegedly leaked online and it is tipped to be Realme’s first 5G smartphone. Hence, chances are that it could be powered by Qualcomm’s latest offerings. The smartphone is said to come with a 90Hz, 6.44-inch AMOLED display. It may also come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Realme X50 could also come with a quad rear camera setup, which includes a 60MP primary camera with Sony IMX686 sensor, an 8MP wide-angle shooter, and two 2MP shooters (one for macro and one for portraits). It may come with a dual selfie camera setup on the front as well, including a 32MP shooter and an 8MP wide-angle lens.

Sundar Pichai becomes Alphabet CEO as Google co-founders Page and Brin step down

Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are stepping down from Alphabet, Google’s parent company. They are now handing over all responsibilities of the company to the current Google CEO, Sundar Pichai. However, they will still retain their seats on the board and will be employees of the company. The sudden announcement is not really a surprise since the two founders of Google have been out of the limelight ever since a major restructuring took place at the company back in 2015 and Alphabet was created. Ever since, the company’s stock prices have soared, along with its revenue.

A blog post by Page and Brin reads, “With Alphabet now well-established, and Google and the Other Bets operating effectively as independent companies, it’s the natural time to simplify our management structure. We’ve never been ones to hold on to management roles when we think there’s a better way to run the company. And Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President. Going forward, Sundar will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet.”

“He will be the executive responsible and accountable for leading Google, and managing Alphabet’s investment in our portfolio of Other Bets. We are deeply committed to Google and Alphabet for the long term, and will remain actively involved as Board members, shareholders and co-founders. In addition, we plan to continue talking with Sundar regularly, especially on topics we’re passionate about,” they add.

Pichai says that the new changes won’t affect Alphabet’s structure or its daily workings in any manner. “I will continue to be very focused on Google and the deep work we’re doing to push the boundaries of computing and build a more helpful Google for everyone. At the same time, I’m excited about Alphabet and its long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology,” says Pichai.
