Amazon launches Echo Input Portable smart speaker at Rs 4,999

It hasn’t even been a month since the launch of the wall-mountable Echo Flex and already Amazon is back with yet another smart speaker. This one’s name may sound familiar but it can do something that all the other Echo devices in Amazon’s stable can’t: work when there’s a power cut at home. Called Amazon Echo Input Portable, it’s an Amazon Alexa-powered smart speaker that comes with an inbuilt 4800mAh battery. Priced at Rs 4,999, the Echo Input Portable starts shipping from December 18 on Amazon.in—just in time for Christmas.

The Echo Input Portable is the first Echo smart speaker in India to feature an inbuilt rechargeable battery, which means you can take it with you on short outings. According to Amazon India, the 4800mAh battery inside the speaker is good for up to ten hours of continuous music playback or up to eleven hours of standby. The speaker is equipped with a 1.5-inch speaker driver and a four-microphone array. Like any other Echo device, it’s got the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant for voice commands.

“Customers in India love Alexa, and told us that they want to carry their Echo device from room to room so that they can have an uninterrupted hands-free Alexa experience,” commented Parag Gupta, Head of Amazon Devices India, on Twitter. The Echo Input Portable comes bundled with a 5W power adaptor and a microUSB cable for charging. The portable speaker appears to be no bigger than the size of a small coffee cup and weighs 448g in the hand. Unlike the third-gen Echo Dot, it does not sport a multi-colour light ring for showing activity, but it does come with a set of tiny LED lights to show battery level and Alexa’s listening status.

“For best experience, keep the device plugged in when you don't need to carry it. You know that the device is fully charged when all the 4 LEDs turn off,” Amazon advises on its product page even though the device sports a battery. Unlike the third-gen Echo Dot and the recently launched Echo Flex, the Echo Input Portable does not come with a 3.5mm jack for audio output. There are, however, the Action Button and Microphone Off button on the device’s top face. You can pre-order the Amazon Echo Input Portable from here.

MG officially announces ZS EV in India with 340km range

After weeks of teasing its second car launch in India, MG Motor has officially announced the ZS EV at an event in New Delhi. The MG ZS EV is an all-electric SUV with a claimed range of 340 kilometres on a single charge. Even though the British marque has not yet announced the price and availability of its new EV, it is expected to price the car at around Rs 22 lakh. This should put the ZS EV in direct competition with the Hyundai Kona all-electric SUV, which was launched earlier this year at Rs 25.30 lakh.

To make the ZS EV ownership experience hassle-free, MG Motor has tied up with multiple power solution providers (Fortum, Exicom, eChargeBays, to name a few) in India to bring as many as five different charging solutions to the ZS EV. The fastest charging option is a 50kW public charger for Fortum, which should juice up the car from near zero to 80 per cent in under an hour. The slowest charging option is the AC home/office wall charger, which should take between six and eight hours for a full charge. MG Motor hopes to set up one public charging station for every five kilometres in major cities and twenty-five kilometres in major highways.

MG Motor says the ZS EV’s 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery is good for a driving range of up to 340 kilometres on a single charge. The IP67-rated battery pack is resistant to dust and water (up to 1 metre). The motor, which churns out 143 horsepower, can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 8.5 seconds. In addition, the car is equipped with an inbuilt air purifier (for PM 2.5 particles) and a panoramic sunroof (MG calls it the ‘Skyroof’). The MG ZS EV’s dashboard is home to an 8-inch colour touchscreen head unit, which, in addition to delivering infotainment, displays driving data, including the amount of carbon dioxide saved after a drive.

The MG Hector was introduced in India earlier this year with MG Motor's proprietary iSMART mobile connectivity system. The system on the MG ZS EV is called iSMART EV 2.0, and it comes with a few model-specific enhancements. For example, it will show battery charging information and available driving range. The on-board infotainment unit comes with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with the latest pre-loaded entertainment content. Like the unit on the MG Hector, it can receive over-the-air software updates. We expect the MG ZS EV to go on sale in January 2020 at around Rs 22 lakh. We expect to learn more about MG Motor’s new offering in the coming weeks.

Pablo Escobars brother launches Escobar Fold 1 foldable phone starting at Rs 25,000

Foldable phones seem like the future of smartphones and many companies are jumping on the bandwagon to announce their own offerings. Royole was the first company to beat everyone to the punch and announced a foldable device called FlexPai but we know that there are other companies like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and more that have their own devices in the works. This is my goal, to beat Apple, and by doing it myself like I always have," says Roberto. The Escobar Fold 1 is priced starting at $349 (Rs 25,000 approx) and is currently the cheapest foldable phone available.
