JBL crowdfunds Reflect Eternal headphones that can self-charge to virtually last forever

There’s no dearth of headphones to choose from. One can get headphones in over-the-ear, on-ear, closed-back, open-back, wired, wireless and many other types and combinations. While wireless Bluetooth headphones are gaining prevalence, there are some shortfalls of using one. One of the issues with these headphones is recharging them so that your music listening experience is not cut short. It seems like JBL has found a neat workaround the problem with JBL Reflect Eternal headphones, which support self-charging by converting natural and artificial light into energy. The new headphone was up for crowdfunding on Indiegogo and as per the website, will be available for Rs 9,195 with an Indiegogo discount.

The new JBL Reflect Eternal headphone makes use of Exeger Poerfoyle technology, which uses photovoltaic cells, for recharging itself via any light source. JBL claims that its new wireless headphones can deliver up to 68 hours of playback when they are in a well-lit area for about 1.5 hours. Spending over two hours per day in a brightly lit area is said to result in “virtually unlimited playtime.” However, to get these charging hours, the headphones need at least 50,000 lux of brightness but after digging a bit, we found that sunlight outdoors can go up to 111,000 lux on a bright sunny day.

And indoors, we measured 1000 lux at best in well-lit conditions of our office. Since most people wear headphones indoors most of the time and won’t spend too much time outside, the headphones might be able to offer mere minutes of playback after self-recharging. Leaving these headphones in bright sunlight might be another solution, but that will only damage the foam padding on the earcups and other materials in the long run. We also suggest not to get too excited since many promising devices with exciting tech have previously failed on Indiegogo.

A 6GB variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has shown up on TENAA listings

It looks like Samsung is gearing up to release their next flagship phone in the Samsung Galaxy S10+. A variant of the phone has suddenly appeared on TENAA listings. First reported by @StuffListings on Twitter, he says that there is a new 6GB RAM variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10+. He also posted an image of the TENAA certification. You can check out the tweet below.

— Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) December 16, 2019

The original model of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This 6GB RAM variant could be a more affordable version of the flagship phone and may be targeting emerging markets. From the image, we can see that there hasn’t been much of a physical; change to the phone as it still looks like its predecessors. There are no real details on the price and availability of the phone yet, but we should be getting some news in the next few weeks.

Samsung does not offer a Galaxy S10+ with 6GB of RAM as of now, but considering the listing on TENAA, we should be seeing the 6GB variant of the Galaxy S10+ relatively soon. It may be launched quietly and go up for sale with not too much fanfare.

Android 10 update is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Note10+ devices. It is no longer limited to beta users. The same rollout strategy was deployed by Samsung for the Galaxy S10 series. This stable release follows a five-round beta testing that concluded just a few days ago.

According to a report by SamMobile, the two late-2019 Samsung flagships, Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ are receiving the Android 10 update in Germany. Besides SamMobile, the confirmation also comes from some Reddit users who received the update in Germany just a few hours back. Furthermore, the same Redditors also mention that Google Pay remains broken even after installing this final Android 10 firmware. However, the widespread of this issue is yet to be known.

Android 10 update for Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ comes with One UI 2.0 build version N975F***1BSL7. The update maintains the December security patch and is 144.2MB in size. Galaxy Note10 series users can head to the Software update section of the Settings menu to check if the update has hit their unit. A wider release is expected to follow soon. Samsung has said to update all its recent flagships to Android 10 before January ends.

Earlier, the update had started rolling out to the devices that were already enrolled in the beta programme for One UI 2.0 in Germany. However, the update is now rolling out for everyone.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to cost Rs 699 instead of Rs 999 in India, starting January 15

Microsoft sent out a message on the Xbox app stating that the price of Game Pass Ultimate will drop from Rs 999 plus tax to Rs 699 plus tax. For those who are unaware, Game Pass Ultimate combines Game Pass for the Xbox along with Games with Gold and also gives subscribers access to Game Pass on the PC. The cherry on the cake is the fact that all Microsoft exclusives will be available to Game Pass subscribers at launch. So when Gears 5 launched, Game Pass subscribers can get access to it on the launch date. Existing subscribers got news of the drop in price via a message on the Xbox app. With Xbox Game Pass, players get access to more than 100 games making the point of entry affordable for those looking to get into gaming without dropping a lot of money on games.

Microsoft is also venturing into cloud gaming with Project xCloud. The service is currently in beta and is confirmed to come to India in 2020. At XO19 held in London earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Project xCloud would reach Indian shores as a preview in 2020. With Project xCloud, gamers will be able to stream their Xbox games from the internet to their smartphone or tablet. Along with expanding to new regions, xCloud will be available to Windows 10 PC’s in 2020 as well. Adding more features to xCloud, Microsoft has said that they are planning to integrate Project xCloud with Xbox Game Pass in 2020. This will give players access to their Game Pass library via the cloud streaming service. With all the good news, there are some questions that need answering, the most important of which is a concrete launch date and pricing.

It is said to be designed to ease transactions for both individual users and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country. Realme has partnered with Oppo-owned Fintech startup FinShell to offer a wide range of financial services. The company has also introduced an Android app for Realme PaySa, which has features like free credit report, screen insurance, and personal loans.

“Be it payments or investments, Realme PaySa app will provide all transaction options along with the protection,” Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said while announcing the Realme PaySa platform. “Our mission is to enable our customers to ease at financial services,” he noted. Realme Paysa was announced at the launch event for Realme Buds Air and Realme X2.

Realme PaySa is similar to Mi Credit service as it will offer financial services in these key sectors- lending, savings and protection, payments and tools for business. Moreover, Realme has ensured that all the transaction data will be stored in India. The new service will also come with a human customer service that will chat with users in both English and Hinglish, which will be available for 16 hours a day, seven days a week.

He mentioned that Realme is targeting not just tier-I and tier-II towns with Realme PaySa but is also looking to serve financial services in tier-IV and tier-V towns.

Realme PaySa financial services platform will generate a free credit report for all users in less than one minute. The first three credit reports will be offered for free. The company has partnered with CreditMantri for the service.

Realme PaySa will also offer fully digital loans to users. The load amount will range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Realme noted that the loans will be disbursed in an average time of five minutes. PaySa also has a service for those who break their phone display. The financial service platform will offer screen insurance in under five minutes for both old and new smartphones. Everything from the application to claim will be digital. For this service, Realme has partnered with ICICI Lombard.

Microsoft to roll out new Edge to Windows 10 via Windows Update

Microsoft Edge-based on Chromium will now be bundled with Windows operating system updates and instead be made available through Windows Updates for all PCs running Windows 10 1709 (Redstone 4 aka RS4). The latest development comes over a month after the company announced the general availability of the Chromium-based Edge browser. Microsoft has also released a Blocker Toolkit that will enable enterprises to disable automatic delivery. It will also allow installation of Microsoft Edge for organisations where Automatic Updates on PCs is enabled by default.

Microsoft officials have revealed that the new Chromium-based Edge browser will be generally available starting January 15, 2020. The company stated, “To help our customers become more secure and up-to-date, Microsoft will distribute Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) through Automatic Updates for Windows 10 RS4 and newer.”

Since Edge releases aren't bound to the Windows major releases, Microsoft mentions through separate documentation that changes will be provided to the operating system to ensure the new Edge version fits seamlessly into Windows. Moreover, the documentation says feature updates for Edge browser will be released roughly on a six-week cycle. Furthermore, security and compatibility updates will be seeded as per the requirements.

The documentation states, “Updates won't change the user experience until the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge is installed. Installing Microsoft Edge Beta, Dev, or Canary won't trigger any changes in Windows. These browser releases will be installed alongside existing browsers.”

Once the new version of Microsoft Edge is installed, all tiles, start menu pins and shortcuts for the current version will migrate to the next version. Shortcuts, as well as the taskbar pins available on the current version, will migrate to the next version.

Microsoft is also encouraging developers to start building new extensions before the general availability date, that is, January 15 2020. “We recommend you prioritise building new extensions for the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, and continue to support your existing EdgeHTML-based extensions to ensure a quality experience for active users,” Microsoft said in a blog post.
