OnePlus launches bug bounty programs that can fetch you anywhere between 50 and 7000

If you are sort of person who like to poke holes in other people’s code, there’s a new way to earn big bucks. OnePlus is offering two bug bounty programs in a bid to find potential security threats in its software. Bug bounty hunters can rake in anywhere from $50 to $7,000 finding and reporting bugs.

The first OnePlus bug bounty program is called the Security Response Center and deals with cybersecurity threats. Security experts who discovered a bug and will have to submit an online form describing the threat. It has to be an original proof-of-concept, not posted anywhere else.

Rewards for bugs reports that quality can range from $50 to $7000 depending on the potential impact of the threat. Security experts can report bugs to the OnePlus official website, OnePlus Community Forums, and OnePlus Applications. The reports will be reviewed by technical experts from OnePlus.

The second bug bounty program is in collaboration with HackerOne, a security platform operated by ethical hackers. Researchers from HackerOne will test out OnePlus products privately for security threats. In a press note, OnePlus said “HackerOne will tap into their extensive network of security experts to surface the most relevant security vulnerabilities before they can exploited by external factors.”

OnePlus said it will get insights from top security researchers, academic scholars and independent experts as part of the collaboration with HackerOne. The program will start as a pilot with select few researchers who will be submitting their reports through HackerOne. A public version of the program is slated to go live later in 2020.

PUBG for PC is testing a new flying vehicle

PUBG for PC is testing a new vehicle that will allow players to fly above the battlefield. Called a Motor Glider, the vehicle resembles an Ultralight aircraft. The new aircraft will be available in PUBG Labs, a new section of PUBG for PC where developers can test new settings and features before they make their way to the full version of the game. The Motor Glider is the first time PUBG PC players will get a chance to pilot an aerial vehicle.

“You’ve been hittin’ the roads on the battlegrounds pretty hard, but where we’re going, we don’t need roads. Final boarding call for the Motor Glider mode only available for a limited time. Take to the air in the new Motor Glider and get the drop on enemy squads wherever they are,” the developers write in their official blog post.

The Motor Glider is a two-seater vehicle with space for a pilot and a gunner. The gunner can use all his/her weapons while flying, including throwables. The vehicle is also pretty much indestructible. It is noted that only the engine of the vehicle can be destroyed, with the wings taking less damage as compared to the body. The tires cannot be damaged at all, you players can glide and land the aircraft even after the engine has been disabled.

The Motor Glider needs a minimum speed of 65 km/h to take off and, at 70 km/h, it will take off on its own. The fuel consumption rate of the vehicle depends on the amount of throttle you use. It is noted that while there is no maximum altitude, the engine power will reduce the higher players go.

The new vehicle will be available for a limited time between Dec 19 11pm PST and Dec 22 11pm PST. It will spawn in Erangel and Miramar in Squad Mode. It will be available in both TPP and FPP.

It should be noted helicopters already made their way to players in PUBG Mobile a few months ago. However, the vehicles are not available in classic mode and are limited to a special Payload Mode, which also offers other features such as teammate revival.

Samsung Galaxy S11 trio could feature 48MP telephoto lens in addition to leaked front cover

Samsung Galaxy S11 leaks and speculated information are pouring in from online leaksters and tipsters every single day. The latest leak suggests that the upcoming Samsung flagship could leave the competition far behind in terms of telephoto proficiency. The Galaxy S11, Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11+ are rumoured to come equipped with a 48MP telephoto lens. Moreover, the Galaxy S11+ is already rumoured to sport a custom 108MP primary sensor that is said to employ 9-cell pixel-binning technology. Also, the front cover of the Galaxy S11 has leaked, hinting at the size of bezels on the handset.

Samsung will lead the high-pixel telephoto lens, and the telephoto cameras of the S11e, S11, and S11 + are not less than 48MP.

The latest development comes from popular tipster Ice universe, who took to Twitter to reveal that the Galaxy S11, Galaxy S11e, and the Galaxy S11+ will feature a telephoto lens with 48MP. If it turns out to be true, it will be the most powerful telephoto lens in a smartphone going by the current industry standards. Earlier rumours have also claimed that Samsung could deploy a new, custom 108MP sensor on the Galaxy S11+.

The tipster has also posted images of the front cover of what is claimed to be the Galaxy S11. It is said to not be a protective film but the ‘real phone design’. The images show a centrally aligned punch-hole for a single selfie camera. Also, there bezels on all four sides are minimal, including the head and chin.

Previously, the placement of an ultra-wide camera and a 5X zoom periscope camera unit alongside the 108MP primary sensor on the Galaxy S11+ had leaked. In earlier renders, Samsung Galaxy S11+ was shown to feature a rectangular camera module that may sport up to five sensors along with laser autofocus and a flash.  The phone will reportedly be able to shoot 8K videos.

The Samsung Galaxy S11+ is said to stick with the curved display. Leaks suggest that the display will be as large as 6.9 inches, while the panel itself will be Samsung’s own Dynamic AMOLED display. It could come equipped with 120Hz display refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy S11 is also rumoured to sport a display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. It has reportedly been certified in China for 25W fast charging. The Galaxy S11 trio is expected to come in 6.2/6.4 inches, 6.7 inches, 6.9 inches display sizes. The company has also patented ‘Space Zoom’ feature, which could come with support for lossless zoom.

OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T OxygenOS 1003 update brings notch hiding feature, OnePlus 77Pro get OxygenOS Open Beta 7

OnePlus is no slouch when it comes to pushing software updates to its smartphones. It recently rolled out the Android 10-based OxygenOS 10 update to the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T phones and is now rolling out the OxygenOS 10.3.0 patch for them. The new update brings some new notable features for the phones like updated Android security patch and an option to hide the notch on the two phones. In addition, OnePlus has announced the Open Beta 7 update for the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro. This new update is available for all those who are on the beta program and brings an “an optimized charging feature” that has not been detailed.

OxygenOS 10.3.0 for the OnePlus 6 and 6T

The new OxygenOS 10.3.0 update for the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T is being rolled out for the units in batches, which means one might need to wait a bit before it is available for their phones. As per the changelog, the update brings Android 10 for the phones but the new Android version was rolled out for the phones with the OxygenOS 10 update. However, there are some other new additions like a new UI for Android 10, the ability to hide the notch and updated Android security patch to November 2019. An automatic reboot issue has also been fixed, along with a problem with the lock screen that appeared even after unlocking, navigation bar and the missing Digital Wellbeing option.

The fingerprint unlock feature is also being improved, and the fingerprint animation is enhanced. There should also be some camera improvements and an issue with WiFi connectivity with 5GHz networks has also been fixed. That’s all the new features being rolled out to the phones with this new update and, as mentioned earlier, the OTA is being rolled out in a staged manner.

OxygenOS Open Beta 7 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro

Coming to the new OxygenOS Open Beta 7 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, the update adds some system level changes to the two handsets. OnePlus is adding an optimised charging feature that is said to improved battery performance based on usage. How this option exactly works has not been detailed. Our guess is that the new feature might be an improvement upon the adaptive battery usage option that is being rolled out with Android 10, but this is just an educated guess on our part.

Additionally, RAM management has been optimised on the two phones and an issue of auto-record toast messages in the contact app and incorrect time format in the status bar has been fixed. There are some general bug fixes and improvements to the overall system stability. A new reading mode option is also being added, which adds Chromatic effect option “to adapt color range and saturation intelligently for a better reading experience.” As always, the new beta build cannot be expected to be fully stable and you might encounter some bugs.

Facebook working on its own OS to reduce dependence on Android: Report

Facebook is working on its own operating system in a bid to reduce reliance on Google’s Android, according to a report by The Information. The OS team at Facebook is being led by Mark Lucovsky, an ex-Microsoft executive who co-authored the Windows NT operating system.

Presently, Facebook relies on a forked version of Android to power Portal and Oculus devices and the new OS is supposedly being developed to replace that. One of Facebook’s AR and VR head reportedly said it’s possible that future hardware from Facebook won’t have to rely on Google’s software.

The development could be prompted by the situation Huawei has found itself in, after the U.S Department of Commerce placed the company on its entity list barring US companies to do business with Huawei, including Google. As a result, Huawei was unable to make use of Google’s services in its smartphones.

Perhaps foreseeing a similar fate, Facebook too has started work on its own operating system to get around the control Google presently has over Facebook’s devices.

“We really want to make sure the next generation has space for us. We don’t think we can trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that’s the case. And so we’re gonna do it ourselves,” Facebook’s head of hardware, Andrew Bosworth told The Information.

Along with its own operating system, Facebook is also reportedly working on its own silicon. The report corroborates previous reports from Bloomberg and Financial Times earlier this year that Facebook is working on its own chip to power its hardware, alongside its own voice assistant. Facebook is also working on a pair of AR glasses along with a brain control interface to go along with that. The project codenamed ‘Orion’ could come as early as 2023.

This isn’t the first time Facebook has attempted to make its own OS, however. Back in 2013, Facebook collaborated with HTC to make a Facebook-powered smartphone running a forked version of Android with Facebook apps at the forefront.

With the recent developments regarding privacy and data protection, Facebook still faces an uphill battle to get back into the good books of people before asking them to embrace its own software.
