Airtel brings Voice over Wi-Fi calling to Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy M20 series and OnePlus 6 series

Airtel enabled Voice over Wi-Fi a few days ago for users in Delhi, however, the feature was limited in several ways. First, you needed a handset that supports Wi-Fi calling, the phone should be on the list of handsets supported by Airtel and third, you need to have Airtel’s Xtreme Fiber broadband at home.

Today, Airtel has announced that they’re rolling out support for more devices. The list of devices that are now compatible with Airtel Voice over Wi-Fi will include the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, the Samsung Galaxy M20 and the OnePlus 6/6T smartphones. If you have any of these smartphones, check for an update from the smartphone OEM, which should enable Voice over Wi-Fi calling for you. With this new update, the list of phones that support calling over Wi-Fi on Airtel’s network has grown much larger.

Calling over Wi-Fi makes a lot of sense as it eases the congestion over traditional networks. Additionally, with the recent tariff hike, it could be a better option for those who are looking to keep their bills in check. Perhaps the most critical problem this feature addresses is of being in a bad network area. If you are someone whose house does not get good connectivity over Airtel’s mobile network, being able to call and message over the broadband connection would be extremely convenient. However, this does require that you also use Airtel’s broadband connection. The telco did say that they will enable voice over Wi-Fi to work over public and other networks, but they haven’t provided a timeline for it.

In case you’re wondering, here are all the phones that support voice over Wi-Fi on Airtel’s network at the moment:

All Apple iPhone models since the iPhone 6s Xiaomi Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro & POCO F1 All OnePlus 7 and 6 series devices Samsung Galaxy J6, Samsung Galaxy A10s, On6, S10, S10+, S10e, M20

Redmi K20 series can now stream HD videos from Amazon Prime video, Redmi K20 Pro gets MIUI v1103 update

Redmi K20 Pro was launched in India back in July running MIUI 10.3 Global Stable build on top of Android 9 Pie. Since then, it has received several updates. Now, the Redmi K20 Pro is receiving MIUI v11.0.3 update in India. The MIUI 11.0.3.0.QFKINXM update doesn't bring a new security patch and the phone still stays on the November Android security patch. On the other hand, the Redmi K20 series, which consists of the Redmi K20 and the K20 Pro, now supports HD video playback on Amazon Prime Video. While the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro have Widevine L1 certification to support high-quality video streaming, Amazon didn't enable HD video playback till now.

The MIUI update was first spotted by Fonearena. The update for the Redmi K20 Pro is sized between 520MB and 2.2GB, which varies depending on the existing software version. As per the changelog, this update brings fixes an issue affecting notification settings while using Second space.

Minor changes include renaming GPS toggle as “Location” and optimisation of the Clock app to show “more obvious naming” for local time. An issue causing images to overlap while scrolling screenshots is also fixed. Redmi K20 Pro users can head over to Settings > About phone > System update and check availability of the latest MIUI update.

Coming to the second development, Redmi K20 series didn’t support HD video playback from Prime Video despite Widevine L1 certification. Now, according to an official post on MIUI forums, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro support HD video playback from Prime Video.

Gmail credentials wont help you sign into less secure apps from 2020

Google will not let its users use their G-Suite (Gmail) credentials to sign into less secure apps (LSAs) after June 15 2020. Before we get into why Google is barring the login method, let us first take a look at the sign-in option and what it is all about. As an example, let's say that you use the Mail app on iOS, you have to give the app permission to fetch your email. This is quite handy as users may like to use the iOS mail client over the Gmail app. There are many such instances where users use their Gmail or rather google credentials to log into a service. Google will be restricting the use of G-Suite login for third-party apps for security reasons. According to the Google Blog, “LSAs are non-Google apps that can access your Google account with only a username and password. They make your account more vulnerable to hijacking attempts.”

Access to LSAs will be turned off in two stages. According to the Google blog, After June 15, 2020 “users who try to connect to an LSA for the first time will no longer be able to do so. This includes third-party apps that allow password-only access to Google calendars, contacts, and email via protocols such as CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP, and Exchange ActiveSync (Google Sync). Users who have connected to LSAs prior to this date will be able to continue using them until usage of all LSAs is turned off”. Use of LSA will be turned off for all G-Suite accounts on February 15 2021.

Google says that the end-user will be affected by this decision. The reason for Google removing this login option is because "when account access is provided through an LSA, it puts that account at risk of hijacking. That’s because LSAs provide a non-Google app access to your account through just a username and password, without any other authentication factor. If a bad actor got access to your username and password (for example, if you re-use the password on another site that is subject to a data breach), they could access your account data with just that username and password information through an LSA”.

Securing your account and personal details is of utmost importance. If a phishing account gets access to your Gmail account, there's a high risk of your data being stolen. Looking back, there are a number of services and apps where users sign in using their Google credentials.

PUBG Mobile Lite 4v4 Team Death Match mode now available to play

PUBG Mobile Lite continues to be updated in order to make it as close an experience as possible to the full version of the game. Its latest version now offers a 4v4 Team Death Match mode, and the ‘Warehouse’ map used in the mode is the same one used in the full version of the game. This is in contrast to the smaller version of the Erangel map (called Varenga) used in Battle Royale mode. Besides the weapons, in the respective teams’ spawn points, additional equipment such as Level 3 helmets, M249 Machine Guns, and RPG-7 rocket launchers are located in various areas of the map.

Additionally, the game features a bunch of new additions as well. This includes new social features such as the ability to see a teammate’s real-time status. Further, an enemy's location is now revealed when they are hit by a teammate. The game now features three new weapons including the MK47 and the Skorpion. System updates include the ability for players to team up in Clans and communicate via in-game chat. Other changes include adjustments and bug fixes including the addition of a ‘Report’ feature for the Friend page.

The new update for PUBG Mobile Lite also brings a host of new festive customisation options. These include winter-themed in-game skins, and Lucky Air Drops. There is also a new Arcade Spin event and advertisement rewards. The main menu has also been overhauled and players will notice that it is decorated with a holiday theme.

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite price reportedly leaked

Samsung is rumoured to release the Lite variants of its 2019 flagships in the coming weeks. Now, the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite price has reportedly leaked. According to a WinFuture report, the smartphone could be priced at EUR 629.99 (Rs 49,500 approx). Further, it notes that this price is for the Iberian Peninsula, and it may be higher in other European regions due to higher taxes and duties.

The report earlier said that the price of Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite would be EUR 670 in Germany. However, it has been updated with a new price attributed to the Iberian Peninsula region, which is located in the southwest corner of Europe. Previously, leaked renders revealed the phone in multiple colours. The phone was seen sporting a hole-punch display placed in the top centre of the screen, which is similar to the Galaxy Note10 series. However, at the rear, the handset could feature an L-shaped camera setup.

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite renders show the smartphone in three colour options- Black, Red and White with a gradient finish. They also suggest a flat display, unlike the flagship smartphone. The handset could come equipped with three cameras in the rectangular camera module.

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite is said to feature a 48MP primary rear camera. Alongside the primary lens, it may come equipped with a wide-angle lens and a macro sensor. Moreover, the S Pen on the phone is reported to support Bluetooth v5.1 bringing in location-tracking features.

The support page of a Samsung phone with model number SM-N770F / DS has gone live on the Samsung Spain website and in a few other countries as well, indicating the phone might go official soon.

The Galaxy Note10Lite is tipped to go on sale by December 27. However, there is no information about the India launch.

Realme X50 5G to come with 5D cooling, enhanced VOOC 40 charging

The Realme X50 5G is starting to look like a very interesting phone. While the company hasn’t revealed all the details, it has taken a page out of OnePlus’s playbook and has been releasing titbits of information every now and then. Over the last few days, we’ve got confirmed information on the chipset the Realme X50 5G will use, along with the novel cooling system the company is employing to keep the whole handset cool.

The Realme X50 5G has been confirmed to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G gaming SoC. For the uninitiated, Qualcomm had started designating some of its SoCs as ‘G’, which stands for gaming. The smartphone will also sport 5G and apparently VOOC 4.0 fast charging which is said to take the battery from 0-70 in 30 minutes. The charging system will also include an intelligent 5-chip safety method, which will monitor the charge in real time in order to prevent overheating and any such untoward incidents.

All of the above-listed features and components listed above are known to have a nasty side-effect; heat. Whether it's long gaming sessions, fast charging or even that 5G radio, heat is going to always be an issue, which is compounded when the above three things happen at the same time. To counter this, Realme is now revealing a hefty cooling system for the Realme X50. All of the components inside the Realme X50 5G will be cooled by a “five-dimensional ice-cooled heat dissipation system.” Realme says that this system will cover 100 percent of all the heat-generating components. The cooling solution will also include an 8mm ultra-large liquid-cooled copper tube.

Realme has not revealed any kind of performance numbers of this cooling system in terms of what kind of cooling users can expect. Additionally, the company has also kept under wraps other specifics such as the details on the camera modules. Rumours have suggested that there will be a 64-megapixel camera and a total of four cameras, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. We expect the company to release more information in the coming days.
