5 things to know about Call of Duty: Mobiles new Sniper Challenge event in Battle Royale

Call of Duty: Mobile just introduced Sniper Challenge in Battle Royale mode for a limited time. While Sniper Challenge itself isn’t that new, it is a first for Battle Royale. Before this, the event has occasionally been introduced in Multiplayer mode. We played a mode for a bit and here are five things you should know about the new event.

Only teams of 4

The standard version of Call of Duty: Mobile’s Battle Royale mode is available to be played in solo, duo or squad. The Sniper Challenge however, can only be played in squad mode with teams of four players.

You can still play solo

If you do not want to be paired with strangers. You can deselect the ‘Fill The Squad’ option before you start the game. This will ensure that only you and/or your friends will be in a team. However, this also means that you can be outnumbered by other teams.

Smaller Map

While the map is still the same, the area in which you battle has been reduced. This results in a much faster pace and more action as compared to a standard game. The selected location is random, so strategies and drop locations will have to be done on the fly.

Limited weapons

As the name would suggest, the event does not offer the full assortment of weapons to players. However, that does not mean that the map is barren. Besides sniper rifles, players can also find pistols and rocket launchers scattered about the map.

Vehicles

While the map may be smaller, the full assortment of vehicles still seem to be present. This includes smaller vehicles such as ATVs all the way to the helicopter. So the method for traversing the map is still the same. However, with the smaller area and higher density of players, expect enemies to take potshots at you as you drive along.

So that was five things you can expect from the new Sniper Challenge event in Call of Duty: Mobile’s Battle Royale mode. Do note that this is a limited time event and will expire after 13 days. Which means that players will only have till about January 16 to take part in the event.

WhatsApp users exchanged a record 100 billion messages on New Years Eve

One of the most widely used messaging apps, WhatsApp created a new milestone for itself this New Year’s eve. WhatsApp has revealed that its users exchanged over 100 billion messages on the New Year's eve. Moreover, out of that, 20 billion messages were shared by Indian users. Further, 12 billion out of 100 billion messages were in the form of images.

WhatsApp revealed the information by sending a press release. It said, “ WhatsApp can reveal that, during the 24 hours leading up to midnight on New Year’s Eve, a record-breaking number of messages were sent.” WhatsApp users exchanged over 100 billion messages on that day and it is the highest number of messages exchanged in a single day ever since WhatsApp kicked off its services ten years ago.

The Facebook-owned company also revealed the most popular features with its global users over the course of 2019. Text messaging was the most preferred way of communication on the platform, followed by status. The top 5 most popular features amongst WhatsApp users worldwide over the course of the year are:

1. Text Messaging 2. Status 3. Picture Messaging 4. Calling 5. Voice Notes

WhatsApp says that Indian users shared over 20 billion messages on New Year's Eve, which is nearly one-fifth of the total number of messages exchanged globally. However, the number is hardly surprising, given that the largest share of WhatsApp users are Indian.

Xiaomi camera reportedly relayed videos of other people, Google Assistant integration with Mi Home disabled

In this age of connected living, we are increasingly coming across new devices that can be controlled via an app or through voice control. Even older gadgets are being tweaked to be IoT enabled and support functionalities, remotely. However, there’s a real fear of intruders taking over such networks and breaking into a connected ecosystem. Xiaomi’s camera systems seem to have added fuel to the fire for people who value privacy as a Redditor with username u/Dio-V claims to have viewed other people’s camera feed on their Google Nest Hub. As per the Reddit post, the user tried to view their feed but instead, they were shown feed from unknown users, and that too in a really creepy manner.

The Redditor has also posted some stills and a video that shows someone else’s feed being relayed on their Google Nest Home Hub. As if seeing a random live feed of someone else on your device wasn’t creepy enough, the relayed video appears in black and white with scan lines that look something straight out of a horror movie. While we have embedded some of the stills below, you can check out all of them on the original Reddit post here. While the stills seem to be quite convincing, there’s still a chance that they might be doctored. Google has responded to the problem by issuing a statement to AndroidAuthority that reads, “We’re aware of the issue and are in contact with Xiaomi to work on a fix. In the meantime, we’re disabling Xiaomi integrations on our devices.”

XDA Developers tested whether Google has killed Google Assistant integration for Mi Home smart home products. They used Google Home Mini and the Google Home app to connect with a Xiaomi smart lamp but were unable to do so, hinting that the integration has been killed effectively immediately.

Nokia 92 PureView with Snapdragon 865 SoC may launch in late 2020

The Nokia 9 PureView successor is reportedly delayed this year, as per the latest rumour. The Nokia 9.2 Pureview, the company’s 2020 flagship is rumoured to be launched much later in the year. While the Nokia 9 Pureview was released in the first quarter of 2019, Nokia 9.2 Pureview may not show up till the fourth quarter of 2020. The reason for the delay is said to be HMD Global’s plans for using Qualcomm’s latest chipset. The company is looking to power the 9.2 PureView with Snapdragon 865 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 855 or 855+.

The latest rumour comes from a Russian Twitter account Nokia Anew (@nokia_anew), which tweeted that the announcement of the Nokia 9.2 is likely delayed to autumn of this year. To recall, when Nokia 9 Pureview was launched in 2019, it went with the flagship SoC of 2018. Hence, there were rumours of a  Nokia 9.1 PureView with a Snapdragon 855 SoC planned for early 2020, but that didn’t work out. Now, it seems like Nokia wants to stick with the with SoC available for its flagship.

The Nokia 9.2 PureView is tipped to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, which means it will be a 5G smartphone since this SoC is being bundled with the X55 5G modem. However, the USP of the smartphone is expected to be its cameras. It may pick up from where the predecessor left. We expect to see an improved penta-camera setup on the back of Nokia 9.2 PureView. As of now, the rest of the specifications remain unknown.

While most smartphone manaufacturers are going to make their big announcements next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HMD Global is not expected to announce the Nokia 9.2 PureView. It could launch in December 2020, as per the rumour.
