CES 2020: Hyundai to showcase flying car concept, Honda to demo new mobility tech

With this year's CES (Consumer Electronics Show) just around the corner, automakers have begun to announce what visitors can expect from their stalls. Hyundai, which is poised to launch the Aura mid-range saloon in India, will showcase what sounds like the concept version of a flying car. Honda, on the other hand, has an array of new mobility technologies to demonstrate. Just so you know, CES 2020 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 7 to 10.

Built as part of Hyundai's Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) initiative to create unique, highly customisable vehicles that drive themselves, Hyundai's flying car concept is called Personal Air Vehicle (PAV). The popular Korean car manufacturer says it will work in combination with its Urban Air Mobility (UAM) landscape to free motorists from road congestion. From what the company says in its press release, we believe it will be a new kind of hovercraft for the common road user.

Japanese car maker Honda, on the other hand, has a long list of new mobility technologies to show off. For example, the Honda Energy Management Concept is designed to show how portable automotive battery packs can double as a power source for homes. Honda will also showcase the ESMO (Electric Smart Mobility) personal mobility concept vehicle for the first time in the US. SAFE SWARM is a prototype safety system that can warn drivers of pedestrians that aren't in direct line of sight around corners.

Honda's list of concepts for this year's CES doesn't end there. Part of the Honda Xcelerator open innovation programme, Smartphone as Brain involves clever use of a smartphone in a road vehicle to reduce the user's concentration while operating certain vehicle controls. Houndify, which is made in collaboration with SoundHound, is Honda's version of Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. It will respond to the custom wake word, ‘OK, Honda’. Apart from this, Honda will also showcase some new mobility technologies that involve the use of virtual reality and augmented reality.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A4s specs spotted on FCC listing, Bluetooth SIG certification

Google may have officially exited the tablet market but that's not stopping Samsung from making more. The Korean giant's newest model, it appears, will be a mid-ranger with an Exynos chip and an 8.39-inch display. According to the certification websites on which it was found, the upcoming tablet bears the model number SM-T307U and will be marketed as the Galaxy Tab A4s. It's expected to feature an internal storage space of 32GB and support for 15W fast charging. We expect to learn more about this new tablet in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A4s has so far been spotted in an independent listing on the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) website and on a certification signed off by the Bluetooth SIG. The information gathered from these two places reveals that Smasung's upcoming mid-range tablet will feature Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth, LTE, WCDMA, GPS, and ANT+. The tablet will sport a 4860mAh lithium-ion battery that supports 15W fast charging. The tablet will measure approximately 20 centimetres in length and 12 centimetres in breadth.

An online report from GizmoChina suggests the Samsung Galaxy Tab A4s will come with Samsung's Exynos chip, while the aforementioned FCC listing reveals the presence of an 8.39-inch display on the tablet along with dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4Ghz and 5GHz). Although the tablet is reported to come with 32GB of internal storage space, it could hit the market with twice that capacity. It's expected to run Samsung's proprietary One UI 2 software overlay that's based on Android 9 Pie.

Samsung launched as many as three new tablets in India last year, namely the Galaxy Tab S5e, Galaxy Tab A, and Galaxy Tab S6. Of the three, the Galaxy Tab A is the model that sits closest to the upcoming Galaxy Tab A4s in terms of specs. The Galaxy Tab A sports an Exynos 7904 chip, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. It also has a 10.1-inch Full HD display with support for Dolby Atmos 3D Surround Sound through dual speakers. The Galaxy Tab A costs Rs 14,999, so we can expect the Galaxy Tab A4s to cost somewhere around that figure. If you'd like, you can read our review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e here.
