The Pocophone F2 could be coming in 2020, new patent leak reveals

The Pocophone F1 was one of the more impressive phones to have been released in the past few years and users have been expecting a second version of the phone for sometime now. Rumors around the device have been rather rare and the only piece of information we’ve gotten is from the Global Head of Xiaomi, Alvin TSe, who teased that the phone would be releasing in 2020.

But now, there are a bunch of new leaked documents from @_the_tech_guy who claims that Xiaomi has already filed a trademark for a device called the PCOC F2. This could just mean that the company has filed a patent and nothing could come of it. There have been many patents for various devices that have been filed and nothing has come of it. So do take this news with a grain of salt. Check out the patent below and see for yourselves.

If the device does end up coming out, it will probably be called the Pocophone F2. Although, the phone could be called the PCOC F2 in India as the first phone was dubbed the POCO F1 when it launched the country. So, for what it’s worth we can say that according to the leaked documents, the phone should be hitting markets in 2020.

Instagram revamps Boomerang with SlowMo, Echo and Bounce to take on TikTok

Your Instagram Boomerangs are getting a makeover. Threatened by TikTok’s rise, Instagram has introduced similar effects to its Boomerang feature. The new additions comes five years after Boomerangs were introduced in 2015, and according to a report by TechCrunch, it is the most widely used feature while recording stories.

The new Boomerang filters and effects in there in the Boomerang composer in the Instagram Stories camera. Once the video is recorder, tap the infinity symbol to bring up the new effects.

The new effects include SlowMo, and as the name suggests, it slows the frame speed to half the original speed. There’s Echo, that adds a blur to everything that moves almost like what you’d see when you’re drunk. Lastly, there’s Duo, that speeds up the video with a glitch effect as it moves back and forth. With the latest update, it’s also possible to adjust the length of the Boomerang video.

The effects were a long time coming to Instagram Boomerangs. Having existed in TikTok and Snapchat for quite some time, it was only a matter of time before they were copied across to Instagram. That’s essentially how these platforms work. The Instagram Stories itself are the best examples.

The new effects are available in the new version of the Instagram apps for both iOS and Android. You can update the app from the respective app stores.

Fitbit and Garmin under investigation after Philips accused them of patent violations

Fitbit and Garmin are going to be investigated after rival Philips accused the two companies of infringing patents. On Friday, federals regulators in the US announced they are launching an investigation into the two popular wearable companies to see if there is any merit to the accusation.

The US International Trade Commission confirmed that two other companies based in China are also being investigated. The case revolves around four patents owned by Philips that covers a range of smartwatch functions that include alarm reporting, motion tracking and activity tracking. However, a Fitbit spokesperson claimed there are no merits to Philip’s accusations and came as a result of Philip’s failure to succeed in the wearables market.

Philips on the other hand has maintained that the company had attempted to negotiate licensing agreements with both Fitbit and Garmin for three years, but talks broke down ultimately.

All three of them compete fiercely in the wearables market involving fitness trackers, smartwatches and health-monitoring units. Fitbit and Garmin are far more successful than Philips. Last year, the Netherlands-based Philips requested regulators to place an import ban on companies found to infringe on their patents or intellectual property.
