Mysterious GPU crops up on benchmark site, outperforms Nvidia RTX 2080Ti by 30 percent

A new leaked benchmark is causing quite a ruckus around the PC enthusiast circles. Many are claiming that this could be the next Big Navi GPU from AMD, something that the company left out of its announcement roster at CES. The reason for the excitement happens to be the fact that the benchmark puts the performance of this mysterious GPU almost 30 percent higher than the Nvidia RTX 2080Ti, the current leader on the benchmark. However, things are not so simple.

The benchmark in question is the OpenVR Benchmark, which now lists the mysterious GPU as the highest performer with a score of 103.32 fps. In comparison, a heavily overclocked Nvidia RTX 2080Ti has a score of 88.10fps. That’s a huge performance jump. However, the CPU listed is an engineering sample, most likely the recently announced Ryzen 7 4800H, but all it says for the GPU is ‘AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics.’ This has led to many believing that the GPU in question could be the unannounced ‘Big Navi’ GPU, but, there are some interesting caveats.

First, the engineering sample of the CPU is the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, an 8-core 16-thread CPU that’s going to be available in laptops from both Asus and Dell, amongst others. Being a laptop processor, this makes it appear that the GPU in question here could be a laptop GPU, or an eGPU being tested. There is also the likelihood of this being an unreleased Nvidia GPU being tested and that the benchmark is incorrectly registering the integrated GPU while using the discrete GPU.

The creator of the benchmark has also weighed in on the original Reddit post, stating why he believes that this is likely an AMD GPU and not something else. He does go on to say that despite being the creator of the benchmark, he does not have access to any additional information than what is displayed on the website.

Whatever the GPU may be, what is promising is the kind of performance it brings to the table. We can only hope that this is a product in development that’s closer to release, rather than just being an internal prototype that would never see the light of day.

Samsungs next foldable phone could be called Galaxy Z Flip instead of Galaxy Bloom

Samsung is rumoured to launch its next foldable phone sometime this year. A recent report suggested that the smartphone maker showed off its upcoming foldable phone during a covert meeting at CES 2020 to a select audience. The leaked images from the meeting suggested that the purported Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could be named the Galaxy Bloom but now, a well-known tipster, Ice Universe, has tweeted that Bloom is the device’s code name. As per the tipster, the foldable device’s actual name is the Galaxy Z Flip, which hints at a new Z series of devices. We would suggest you take this info with a pinch of salt since nothing has been confirmed officially yet.

We have already come across multiple reports about Samsung’s next foldable phone. The handset is rumoured to sport a clamshell-style design and come equipped with a larger display that folds upon itself, similar to the Motorola Razr foldable phone. It is also rumoured to launch running on last year’s flagship Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 855, and is also expected to be made official alongside the Samsung Galaxy S20 series of handsets. Some images of the Galaxy Z Flip were previously leaked online, which suggest that the handset would sport a secondary display on the exterior, which could be used to display time and some notifications.

Rumours suggest that Samsung’s next foldable phone could be slightly less expensive than the original Galaxy Fold. As for the Galaxy S20 series, it was previously rumoured that the upcoming S series of Galaxy phones would naturally be iterated by one and be called the Galaxy S11. However, Samsung Mobile chief DJ Koh apparently announced at the secret meeting that the next S series will be called the Samsung Galaxy S20. There could be three phones included in the lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra and the standard Galaxy S20.

Speaking of the Samsung Galaxy S20 phones, leaked images of the Galaxy S20+ recently surfaced online. The handset can be seen sporting four cameras on the back and there’s apparently no Bixby button. This year, the Galaxy S20+ is expected to be a mid-variant in the S20 series instead of being the top variant.  You can check out the leaked images of the Galaxy S20+ here.

Samsung Galaxy S20+ leaked images show punch-hole display, rectangular camera module and more

The successor to the Samsung Galaxy S10 is all set to launch on February 11. As the launch date closes in, we are getting more and more information about the upcoming devices. Apparently, the Galaxy S10 successor is likely to be called Samsung Galaxy S20 - at least the leaked live images say so. The latest leak reveals a new design language for the 2020 Samsung flagship devices.

The development comes from XDA-Developers, who have revealed the live images of Samsung Galaxy S20+. The pictures show the front and rear of the device. It shows a punch-hole display like the Galaxy Note10 and new rear camera setup. We can see a total of 4 cameras and a flash in the rectangular camera module. The Samsung Galaxy S20+ is likely to come with less curved display. It is tipped to use 2.5D glass instead of Samsung’s usual curved glass. The punch-hole selfie camera module is centred and smaller than in the Galaxy Note10. The bezels appear to be minimal on all four sides. Samsung is rumoured to use a custom 108MP primary lens on the most premium Galaxy S20 device.

Samsung Galaxy S20 trio is said to feature a telephoto lens with 48MP. If it turns out to be true, it will be the most powerful telephoto lens in a smartphone going by the current industry standards. The trio is expected to come in 6.2/6.4 inches, 6.7 inches, 6.9 inches display sizes.

Alongside the Galaxy S20 series, the company is expected to unveil its next foldable phone, which is said to be called Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. It could be a clamshell foldable phone like the Motorola Razr (2019). The company is rumoured to turn to ultra-thin glass as the covering for the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 instead of the current plastic-based cover.

OnePlus 8 Pro allegedly pops up on Geekbench with 12GB RAM while company CEO confirms 120Hz screen announcement

OnePlus has admittedly had a busy start to the year. Just last week it showed off a new prototype smartphone called the OnePlus Concept One with ‘disappearing cameras’, and today it’s prepared to announce the details of its upgraded 120Hz screen. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed the announcement earlier this morning on a quick Weibo post. Meanwhile, a Geekbench listing allegedly belonging to the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro has popped up online. The listing reveals that the OnePlus 8 Pro could come in a 12GB RAM variant.

With just a few hours left to go for OnePlus’ big announcement about its new screen tech, CEO Pete Lau let the cat out of the bag on Weibo. In his short post, he stated that the company has completed the research and development of a 120Hz screen, the customisation of which is apparently simple. We can expect to see OnePlus’ new 120Hz screen on at least one of the models in the upcoming OnePlus 8 series. By that we mean we definitely expect to see it on the OnePlus 8 Pro. The new screen will act as an upgrade to the 90Hz screen that currently does duty on the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.

In the meantime, a Geekbench listing reportedly carrying the scores of the OnePlus 8 Pro has been spotted online. It also reveals that the flagship could be sold in a 12GB RAM variant, among others. Reported by IndiaShopps a couple of days ago, the listing tells us that the OnePlus 8 Pro is codenamed ‘GALILEI IN2023’, features a ‘kona’ motherboard, and runs Android 10. It could be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, while the cheaper OnePlus 8 Lite gets a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip. We suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt as it’s not official.

The alleged OnePlus 8 Pro appears to have been tested on Geekbench 4 even though Geekbench 5.0.3 is the latest version. Its scores are 4296 for single-core and 12531 for multi-core. The OnePlus 7 Pro with 12GB of RAM, by contrast, bagged 3413 on single-core and 10603 for multi-core on Geekbench 4 when we reviewed it in late October 2019. You can read our review of it here. This development was also apparently confirmed by one of the company’s customer care executives, which was reported on Xiaomi forums by a user, and another user posted a screenshot of the update being made available for their Mi A2. The Mi A2 was launched back in 2018 running on Android 8 Oreo, and was later updated to Android 9 Pie. The handset received a price cut in India back in March this year and was made available starting at Rs 11,999. It runs on the Snapdragon 660 SoC, features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display, and comes in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants. Equipped with a 3000mAh battery, the handset also supports 18W fast charging.
