OnePlus 8 Pro rumoured to support wireless charging

Information circulating the internet suggests that the OnePlus 8 Pro could sport wireless charging. The information is posted on twitter via leakster Max J. who tweeted an image of a smartphone charging on a wireless charging pad, with the caption, “Charge like a pro”. The phone doesn't explicitly look like a OnePlus 8 Pro, but the “Charge like a pro” cation has led many to believe that the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro will support wireless charging. One needs to take this information with a grain of salt as OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has said that he finds wireless charging "too slow" and "it's just not worth it" when compared to the fast charging technology that comes with Warp Charge. This information comes from an interview on The Vergecast.

It is also speculated that the wireless charging capabilities will only make an appearance on the OnePlus 8 Pro and not the OnePlus 8. It is also speculated that a mid-ranged OnePlus christened the OnePlus 8 Lite will make an appearance alongside the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

In November, Max J. also tweeted that the OnePlus 8 could feature a 120Hz display. In January 2020, OnePlus confirmed the existence of a 2K 120Hz display. According to the company, the new screen uses MEMC technology for smoother video playback and a QHD+ resolution. It also comes with 4096 levels of brightness control. You can read more about the 120Hz display here.

OnePlus isn't the only company looking at implementing a 120Hz display on its smartphone. Samsung is expected to implement the same on its upcoming Galaxy S20 flagship and Oppo is also expected to implement the technology in the upcoming Find X2. Google releases 3 Android apps to help to curb excessive phone usage

Google has released three more Android apps to help you curb excessive phone use. Under its digital wellbeing initiative, the company has been releasing various apps to manage your usage. After the addition of Focus mode that lets you pause apps that you find distracting, Google is now adding 3 new apps - Envelope, Activity Bubbles and Screen Stopwatch.

Envelope asks users to put their phone in an envelope so they can’t use it. Google describes Envelope as "an experimental app which temporarily transforms your phone into a simpler, calmer device, helping you to take a break away from your digital world." The app asks you to print out a special PDF and fold it into the shape of an envelope. Then, you have to seal your phone inside and use it through the paper, only having access to the dialer and the camera. The app is currently only available to the Pixel 3a users here.

Coming to the second app, Activity Bubbles creates a bubble in the wallpaper every time you unlock your phone. The bubble gets bigger the longer you are on your phone. Once you lock your phone again, that bubble stops growing, and the process starts over again. By the end of the day, it creates an abstract bubble pattern as your wallpaper. You can download it here.

Screen Stopwatch is what it says it is. It creates a live wallpaper that displays phone usage in real-time, giving you a precise count of how much time you spend on your phone each day. The counter stops when you lock your phone, but every time it is unlocked you get a constant, ticking reminder from your home screen that is meant to encourage you to put it down. You can download the app here.
