The Gentlemen trailer sees the return of Guy Ritchie to his gritty gangster roots

After the flop that was King Arthur, it looks like Guy Ritchie is moving away from Hollywood blockbusters and returning to his roots in old-school gangster films. The director of classics such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver, has just released The Gentlemen, starring Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey and Jeremy Strong. The film oozes cool and delivers all the gangster tropes that we’re all familiar with. Guy Ritchie has always been a director who understood the seediness of the London underworld better than most and his films reflect exactly that.

The Gentlemen tells the story of an American ex-pat, living in London, looking to sell off his incredibly lucrative marijuana business. This, obviously does not go as planned and thus begins a cycle of betrayal, back-stabbing, cheating and every other vile thing you can think of. From what we can see in the trailer, we’re in for a real thrill-ride as Ritchie takes us through the world of London’s gangsters and their illegal dealings.

The stellar star cast is another reason you should check this film out. The pairing of Hugh Grant, Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell makes this film a must-watch. The Gentlemen is out in theatres right now. Check out the trailer below.

Apple TV app and Apple TV+ now available on 2019 LG TVs in India

If you own a 2019 LG OLED or a NanoCell TV (series SM9X and SM8X), then there is good news for you. LG has announced that in addition to supporting AirPlay 2, the TVs will now support the Apple TV app natively. So if you want to enjoy Apple TV+ shows on the LG TV, till now you would have to AirPlay them from your phone. But now, you can watch them comfortably from the native app available on the TV. India is one of the 80 countries where app support for the TVs have been rolled out. LG’s press statement reads, “LG TV customers can now enjoy Apple TV in addition to AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on all of LG’s 2019 OLED TVs, NanoCell TVs (series SM9X and SM8X) and later this month, the Apple TV app will roll out on select UHD TVs (series UM7X and UM6X). The Apple TV app and Apple TV+ will be available on 2020 TVs at launch and on LG’s 2018 TVs later this year via an over-the-air firmware upgrade.”

So, if you have a 2018 LG TV, then you may have to wait for a little longer to get access to the Apple TV app. If you are planning on getting a 2020 LG TV, then know that the app will be natively supported on the TV.

“LG continues to offer the best home entertainment experience through technological innovations that support the delivery of high-quality viewing and user convenience,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “By bringing the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ to even more TV models, we are once again demonstrating our determination to meet consumers’ needs and add value to our products.”

We downloaded the Apple TV app on our LG B9 OLED TV. The app showed up as an “Update” in the app store and was a mere 53.80MB in size. Fire up the app and you are greeted by the Apple TV logo and a UI that is very familiar to Apple TV users. If you have purchased movies from the Apple TV store, they are ready for consumption. The app also has Apple’s Apple TV+ portfolio of shows to be consumed. Content which is available in Dolby Vision has the Dolby Vision tag. However, the Dolby Atmos tag is missing from the display of the content. For example, we fired up Aquaman on the Apple TV app and it showed us the Dolby Vision tag but the Dolby Atmos tag was missing. Seeing the description of the movie on our iPhone, we saw that it has the Dolby Atmos tag as well. This is a little strange as one of the highlights of the LG OLED TVs is the support for Dolby Atmos.

If you don’t own an LG TV then know that the Apple TV app is available as a native app on a number of Samsung TVs. From Samsung’s flagship QLED TV to 4K UHD TVs launched in 2019 and even their 2018 TVs, the app is available natively. If you have a Fire TV stick, then know that you can get the Apple TV app on that as well. However, know that the Fire TV stick only supports the Apple TV app and does not support AirPlay.

Sony, on the other hand, has no TVs that support the Apple TV app. However, they have a small catalogue of TVs that support AirPlay 2. You can take a look at the complete list of supported devices here.

Paytm is forcing users to uninstall TeamViewer, AnyDesk apps to prevent fraud

Paytm is asking users to uninstall apps like TeamViewer and AnyDesk. Recently, it was reported that fraudsters were able to con a Paytm customer based in Mumbai about Rs 1,72,000 by simply asking them to update their KYC details. The fraudster threatened the victim to block his Paytm account if he didn’t update his KYC details.

When the victim tried to upload his KYC details, he was asked to download the TeamViewer app and send one rupee to any Paytm user. Now, courtesy of TeamViewer, the fraudsters were able to access the victim’s Paytm login details. He used the details to transact Rs 1,72,000 from the victim’s bank account. However, the fraudsters were later nabbed.

In the midst of fraud and spams, Paytm is now taking matters in its own hands and blocking its customers from using the service as long as they have TeamViewer installed on their phones. As a result of the recent fraud, Paytm’s developers have blacklisted multiple TeamViewer apps.

Paytm is now suggesting users uninstall the TeamViewer app before using their services. TeamViewer is also separately in touch with the digital wallet over its concerns. The company says their apps are secure thanks to end-to-end encryption, suggesting that they shouldn’t be the subject of contention here.

TCL to stop manufacturing BlackBerry smartphones from August 31, 2020

Blackberry smartphones will soon end their manufacturing run. TCL Communication, manufacturers of Blackberry devices, has announced that it would be parting ways with Blackberry later this year. However, existing Blackberry smartphone users will continue to receive after-sales services until 2022.

Back in 2016, Blackberry signed a deal with TCL to manufacture and sell BlackBerry smartphones. The BlackBerry Motion, BlackBerry KEYone, and BlackBerry KEY2 were being designed, manufactured, and sold by TCL Communication in major markets. However, BlackBerry took to Twitter to announce the latest development. The statement included -

“The support of BlackBerry Limited was an essential element to bringing devices like BlackBerry KEYone, Motion, KEY2, and KEY2 LE to life and we're proud to have partnered with them these past few years on those projects. We do regret to share however that as of August 31, 2020, TCL Communication will no longer be selling BlackBerry-branded mobile devices.”

TCL Communications said in a statement that it was “blessed enough” to work on BlackBerry smartphones. “The future is bright for both TCL Communication and BlackBerry Limited, and we hope you'll continue to provide support both as we move ahead on our respective paths,” the statement added. The company will continue to provide support for the existing portfolio of mobile devices including customer service and warranty service until August 31, 2022.

In 2017, BlackBerry announced it would no longer make smartphones. BlackBerry handed all the hardware and sales details to its licensees to work as a software company. Hence, we are unlikely to see a BlackBerry smartphone now. It is likely the end of the company in the smartphone segment.
