Google accidentally sent users private videos to strangers on Google Photos

A “technical issue” led Google Photos to export some video files to the archives of strangers. The issue was confirmed by Google in an email sent to affected users. While it took place last year, Google took over two months to report its existence to the users. It took place precisely between, November 21-25 in 2019.  The issue essentially impacted Google's ‘Download your data' service that is called Google Takeout.

Google’s email was shared by a Redditor. It reads, “Unfortunately, during this time, some videos in Google Photos were incorrectly exported to unrelated user's archives. One or more videos in your Google Photos account was affected by this issue.” The email also said that the Google Photos archive that was downloaded during the affected period might be incomplete and didn't include all the user content meant for export. It also intimated users that the data downloaded between those five days might include videos of strangers.

The company noted that one or more videos might be affected by the issue. However, it didn’t clear which videos had been impacted. Google is recommending affected users to perform another export of their content or delete their prior export. “The underlying issue has been identified and resolved,” Google stated. The company has apologised “for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

According to 9To5Google, less than 0.01 per cent of Google Photos users were affected. However, it is worth noting that the service has over 1 billion users, so even a small percentage will impact a significant number of people.

Redmi could soon launch power banks in India, shows off upcoming device in new teaser

Redmi will soon launch a new device in India and Xiaomi's India chief Manu Kumar Jain has released a teaser for it. The teaser doesn’t make it easy to figure out which device is being shown off but if we had to guess, our bet would be on a power bank. Redmi announced a new power bank in China last year and the company could finally bring the accessory to India. We are guessing that it’s a power bank based on the teaser shared by Jain, which shows off a button on the device’s side, which is similar to the power button on the Redmi power bank. 

Manu Jain’s tweet also used hashtags like power and “#MorePowerToRedmi!” in his tweet, which makes us think it could be a power bank. The Redmi power banks were previously announced in 10000mAh and 20000mAh capacities and are priced at CNY 59 (Rs 590 approx) and CNY 99 (Rs 990 approx) respectively. The larger capacity power bank features a 74Wh battery that supports 18W fast charging on both USB-A ports. It also comes with a USB Type-C port and a micro-USB port for charging. Xiaomi claims that the power banks can charge the Redmi Note 7 3.5 times and the iPhone XS 4.8 times. 

The 10000mAh Xiaomi power bank features a 37Wh battery and the device also comes with two USB-A ports. There’s a Type-C and a micro USB port as well but this power bank doesn’t support fast charging. There’s a possibility that the company may add fast charging support in its 10000mAh power bank to compete with the Realme power bank. The 10000mAh Redmi power bank is said to charge the Redmi Note 7 1.5 times and the iPhone XS 2.3 times. We expect Redmi to release more details regarding the upcoming product in the coming days.

Samsung accidentally leaks Galaxy S20 images ahead of February 11 launch

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series is all set to be launched on February 11. However, ahead of the launch, Samsung has accidentally revealed the Galaxy S20 in a set of leaked marketing images posted to its own website. The images confirm the already leaked design and the Galaxy S20 name instead of the Galaxy S11. The images reveal a triple rear camera setup arranged in a vertical rectangular module. 

As spotted by WinFuture, Samsung is said to have posted the images of Galaxy S20 on the company’s online store in a European country. For reference, this is not the first time that Samsung has mistakenly posted official images of its upcoming device, the company leaked the Galaxy Note10 and Note10 Plus just a day ahead of their launch in August. 

Samsung Galaxy S20 leaked images also reveal a hole-punch selfie camera and a tall camera bump. The Galaxy S20 is said to feature a 6.2-inch WQHD+ (1440 x 3200 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display. It may pack a 4000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.

As for the optics, Samsung Galaxy S20 will sport a triple rear camera setup: 12MP main sensor + a 12MP ultra wide-angle lens + a 64MP telephoto lens. It is expected to come with 3x optical zoom, 30x digital zoom, and 8K video capture at 30fps. A 10MP selfie shooter is said to reside in the punch-hole notch.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 are said to go on sale on March 6. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip may go on sale on February 14.

Dyson patent hints at a headphone that can deliver purified air

The problem of increasing air pollution affects everyone’s well-being and health. There are solutions such as air purifiers to help one have some degree of control indoor air quality. However, one doesn’t have much control over the air they breathe outside. Face masks are generally used to help relieve people from unclean outdoor air, but they are generally not very effective and are quite uncomfortable. The air purifier and vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson believes that it can solve this problem with a headphone that acts as a personal air purifier. The company has patented a headphone that comes equipped with filters and is apparently capable of delivering purified air directly in your face, no pun intended. 

As per the patent documents, Dyson could develop a small air purifier housed within a headphone. This device comes with two speaker assemblies, which basically resemble the two earcups on a headphone. Both of these assemblies feature air filters and an impeller that would suck impure air inside and create airflow. A motor will drive the impeller and an ar outlet downstream will also be provided to expel filtered air from the device. The filtered air would be ushered down to a front strip that would deliver clean air to your nose and mouth. As noted first by Bloomberg, the patent suggests 35-40mm fans that are housed within the headphones and spin at 12,000 RPM. These fans are said to pull in about 1.4 litres of air per second. 

The patent doesn’t hint at how big the battery is and where it would be housed. Additionally, small fans spinning at 12,000 RPM are bound to be noisy for bystanders and especially the wearer. It is not known whether Dyson will use sound dampening or Active Noise Cancellation technologies to lower the amount of noise being produced. Since the company has just patented the concept, there’s no guarantee that these headphones could see the light of the day anytime soon and we suggest you take this info with a pinch of salt.

Wifi Dabba to offer 1GB data for Rs 1 at 1Gbps speeds, should Jio be worried

After Reliance Jio announced its JioFiber internet service, rival internet service providers bolstered their offerings in a bid to stay relevant. However, founded in 2016, the Y-Combinator graduate startup Wifi Dabba has announced that it will soon offer internet services at extremely inexpensive prices. Back in 2017, the startup offered data at Rs 2 per 200MB and at Rs 2 per 1GB in 2018. It has now announced that it will offer 1GB for Rs 1 in 2020 and at speeds of up to 1Gbps. The company is currently offering its services in Bengaluru but it aims to soon expand its reach to other states, based on the user interest and registrations it receives. 

Wifi Dabba aims to deliver affordable internet service in India by lowering the cost of access for the next billion users. The company provides a Wi-Fi router free of charge and doesn’t charge for installation either. Available in public places such as ‘Chaiwallahs’ all over Bengaluru, the internet service is available in prepaid sachets and also for free if you are up for watching some ads or solving some puzzles to access the internet for free. The company’s goal is to build a city-wide mesh network so that users who purchase its service can stay connected no matter where they travel in the city. 

The service currently offers data at Rs 1 per GB, which is way lower than what any other telco offers. For example. JioFiber’s Rs 699 prepaid plan comes with 150GB data at 100Mbps speeds for one month. This converts to about Rs 4.6 per GB. Similarly, Airtel Xstream broadband service offers 150GB data at speeds of up to 100Mbps, which again comes down to Rs 4.6 per GB. On the contrary, Wifi Dabba is offering 1GB at Rs 1 and at speeds of up to 1Gbps. The only caveat being that you can access the internet for a limited time. What do you think about this service? The Gentlemen trailer sees the return of Guy Ritchie to his gritty gangster roots

After the flop that was King Arthur, it looks like Guy Ritchie is moving away from Hollywood blockbusters and returning to his roots in old-school gangster films. The director of classics such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver, has just released The Gentlemen, starring Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey and Jeremy Strong. The film oozes cool and delivers all the gangster tropes that we’re all familiar with. Guy Ritchie has always been a director who understood the seediness of the London underworld better than most and his films reflect exactly that. 

The Gentlemen tells the story of an American ex-pat, living in London, looking to sell off his incredibly lucrative marijuana business. This, obviously does not go as planned and thus begins a cycle of betrayal, back-stabbing, cheating and every other vile thing you can think of. From what we can see in the trailer, we’re in for a real thrill-ride as Ritchie takes us through the world of London’s gangsters and their illegal dealings. 

The stellar star cast is another reason you should check this film out. The pairing of Hugh Grant, Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell makes this film a must-watch. The Gentlemen is out in theatres right now. Check out the trailer below.
