Following the first day of the Microsoft CEO Summit in Mumbai at the three-day-long Microsoft Future Decoded event in India, the company announced the launch of a new program dubbed '100X100X100' which aims to accelerate the startup ecosystem in India on February 24. The initiative brings together 100 established companies as well as 100 early growth startups or SMBs. Each of these B2B SaaS startups has enterprise-ready solutions to offer and the participating enterprise companies will pledge to spend $100K over the course of 18 months on these solutions. At the launch of this program, over 50 startups were already part of it.

The program has been launched under the Microsoft for Startups initiative and it will help enterprises digitally transform rapidly by fast-tracking the adoption of SaaS solutions. Reportedly, startups with a proven track record have been inducted into this program and they will be able to provide enterprises with a wide variety of curated, ready-to-launch solutions. This will also aid in creating a profitable domestic market for Indian B2B SaaS startups. The initiative, however, is only open to startups associated with Microsoft India for Startups.

As part of the program, these early-stage startups will gain access to timely speed-contracting sessions with prospective customers at Microsoft and other customer events. The program will be conducted in conjunction with Microsoft's ecosystem partners and industry associations such as the Delhi and Mumbai Chapters of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE).

Nadella, while speaking at the Microsoft Future Decoded event today, strongly emphasized, "Enterprises must start building their own tech intensity and capability". He believes that enterprises, of any size, must begin to gear towards the technology-aided future and they must "build a consistent edge and cloud model". Nadella continued to emphasize on the importance of cloud, edge computing and AI processing in the future and how most of the working force today will need to reskill or upskill in the future.

Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India stated, "India has one of the largest B2B SaaS startup ecosystems in the world, and it's growing exponentially. This initiative will help build scale and create amazing opportunities of startups. Businesses can now fast-track their digital journeys through easy adoption of enterprise-grade solutions. Android 11 Pixel Launcher hints at easy screenshot sharing, improved app suggestions, auto-named folders

Now that the first Developer Preview of the next version of Android has gone live, we can expect to see more and more reports of upcoming features pop up online. Though they may not all make it to the production version of Android 11, they give us an idea of what to expect from Google’s popular mobile operating system this year. After a root-about in the Pixel Launcher’s code, XDA Developers reports that there are three new features currently being tested in the famous launcher, each as useful as the next.

The first feature is a set of three new action buttons at the bottom of the recent apps screen: Select, Screenshot, and Share. According to the report, the Select button does absolutely nothing at the moment but is expected to highlight all the text and images within the app in focus. The Screenshot button reportedly takes a screenshot of the app in focus and then saves it to disk, while the Share button goes one step further by bringing up the share screen for sharing the screenshot with a contact.

The second feature is an option to hide a particular suggestion in the suggested apps section of the launcher’s app drawer. For example, you can long-press a suggested app such as Google Photos and tap ‘Don’t suggest app’ to remove it from the top row of the app drawer. At least this appears to be the function of this feature because XDA Developers reports it doesn’t do anything for the moment. If Google indeed enables this feature in Android 11, users should be able to get a slightly tighter control over their suggested apps.

The third and final feature comes in the form of home screen folders that name themselves automatically when icons of a similar category are grouped together. For example, grouping Facebook and Twitter icons together reportedly creates a new folder called ‘Social’. The newly created folder can of course be renamed but this automatic suggestion can prove to be a huge time-saver for users who just want to keep their home screen icons organised by category. Whether Google decides to bring all three features to the final release version of Android 11 is something only time will tell. In the meantime, you can check out the Pixel Launcher here.

Latest WhatsApp Beta for iOS brings Dark Mode, advanced search and more

If you were one of the many iOS users who rejoiced when Instagram received support for dark mode back in October last year, you’ll be glad to know that the latest beta release of WhatsApp has been spotted with the same long-awaited feature. This means we can expect the popular Facebook-owned messaging app to get a dark theme in the coming weeks. However, there’s a tiny catch—and you probably are aware of it already—you’ll need iOS 13 for it to work.

According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Beta version 2.20.30.25 for iOS devices comes with an option to extend the dark theme found natively in iOS 13. To enable it, you’ll have to visit the Display & Brightness section within Settings. The screenshots from the report show an all-black background with white text in every screen of the app, including the splash screen, chats list, and chat screen. It’s even seen in the ‘share’ section of the app.

“WhatsApp for iOS also supports a second configuration of the Dark Theme. You can choose to enable Increase contrast in your iPhone Settings in order to enable the second configuration, that uses lighter dark colours for some UI elements,” the report goes on to explain. This configuration may not be available on all iOS devices just yet. The beta release reportedly contains a few more enhancements, such as a blur effect for the wallpaper when messages are selected (for forwarding, deleting, etc.) and an advanced search mode for easier media search within the app.

If you’re interested in trying the new beta version of WhatsApp on your iOS device, you’ll first have to download and install the Apple TestFlight app from the App Store. You will then have to accept an invitation (through email or public link) from the developer. The beta programme for this version of WhatsApp is currently full. But you can always try again in the near future. You can visit this link for more instructions. In the meantime, you can read about enabling dark mode on WhatsApp for Android here.
