All OnePlus 8 models will feature 5G: OnePlus CEO Pete Lau

With the launch of the next OnePlus smartphone series expected to happen in about a month’s time, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has revealed to everyone’s surprise that all the upcoming OnePlus 8 models will feature 5G connectivity, including the more affordable OnePlus 8 Lite that is expected to enter the series starting this year. Apart from dropping a short, suggestive tweet that reads, “We’re going all in 5G. You in?” Lau recently discussed the company’s decision in detail with CNET. He agrees that the OnePlus series will now be more expensive than before.

Stating that mobile carriers are quickly expanding their 5G coverage worldwide, Lau said recently in a statement to CNET, “I want to restate our commitment to 5G and our long term investment. We've been investing in 5G for several years and we see this as the direction going forward and one we're very much committed to.” The company launched its first 5G-enabled smartphone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, in the UK in mid-2019 and a little later in the US. The handsets launched so far in India do not feature 5G.

When asked about the OnePlus series’ rising retail price, Lau reportedly stated, “We've always had a position in creating the  best product possible at the best price point. The new technology does add costs so costs have risen in comparison to 4G products.” However, whether this difference in cost will apply to the Indian models is something that remains to be seen, given that the OnePlus 8 series is expected to be launched without 5G connectivity in the country.

As is the case with the competition, the OnePlus 8 series smartphones could have their 5G radios disabled at a firmware level when they enter the Indian market. Though Reliance Jio is reportedly working on an in-house 5G technology, India is far from seeing a working 5G network. The upcoming top-end OnePlus 8 Pro is rumoured to come with a bunch of new features, such as 30W wireless reverse charging and a faster 120Hz refresh rate screen. PlayStation 4 Exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn confirmed for PC in 2020

PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to the PC in the summer of 2020. The information comes from Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios. Before becoming the head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst was the head of Guerrilla Games, the developers behind Horizon and the Killzone Franchise. The information comes via the PlayStation Blog. The blog reads, “Yes, I (Hermen Hulst) can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer…. There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon.”

A quick search on Steam reveals the presence of the game but there is no information on the system requirements, price or the release date. The Steam listing confirms that the game is the Complete Edition and comes with The Frozen Wilds expansion, Carja Storm Ranger Outfit and Carja Mighty Bow, Carja Trader Pack, Banuk Trailblazer Outfit and Banuk Culling Bow, Banuk Traveller Pack and Nora Keeper Pack.

After Death Stranding (read our review here), this is the second PS4 game to hit the PC. Before you go all PlayStation fanboy and diss Sony for bringing exclusives to the PC, know that this is a good way of giving people a taste of what's on offer on the PlayStation platform. Hermen Hulst goes on to say, “I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on. And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”

This goes to prove that Sony has a different approach when compared to Microsoft. Microsoft has committed to launching its first-party games day and date on the PC and the Xbox console. Horizon Zero Dawn launched back in February 2017 on the PS4, so unlike Death Stranding, the PC release for Horizon comes years after its console release. It could also be a way for Sony to tease people into coming onto the PlayStation hardware.

Both Sony and Microsoft will launch their next-generation consoles in 2020. You can read everything we know about the Xbox Series X here and the PS5 here.

In our review of Horizon Zero Dawn, we said, “If you own a PS4 or a PS4 Pro, you should definitely play Horizon Zero Dawn. It has a well-written story, deep mechanics, and gameplay that’s almost perfect. Sony and Guerrilla Games took a bold step by investing in this new IP and it’s definitely worth it. With Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony has a masterpiece exclusive and can build upon the new franchise. You can finish the story in about 25 hours and add another 10 to 15 hours for the rest and you are looking at a game with a very good lifespan. Completionists will be playing this one long after the sun sets on the Horizon".

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max variant could be announced at the March 12 launch event

Redmi is all set to launch its next Note series on March 12. However, this time around, the company may announce three variants of the Redmi Note 9. A new model, named Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has appeared online. Going by the name, the purported Redmi Note 9 Pro Max could be a top-of-the-line offering with the most powerful hardware of the series. It may sport quad rear cameras and a big battery.

The latest development comes from popular tipster Ishan Agarwal, who took to Twitter to say that Xiaomi might use the #RedmiNote9ProMax hashtag to promote its upcoming phones. Interestingly, a report from 91Mobiles claims that Xiaomi won't launch the Redmi Note 9 at its March 12 event, and might unveil it at a later date.

While we are yet to come across any credible leaks regarding the design or specifications of the Pro Max model, it is said to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset. Further, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is rumoured to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC.

Moreover, Xiaomi Vice President Manu Kumar Jain has teased that the company is, in fact, looking forward to launching three models of the Redmi Note 9. However, this is just a speculation and we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt.

According to previous leaks, the Redmi Note 9 Pro may come in two variants in India – 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. It is expected to feature expandable storage as well. The phone is tipped to be made available in Aurora Blue, Glacier White, and Interstellar Black colour options.

It has a single 16MP camera sensor on the back with phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone flash.
