PUBG Mobiles Colourblind mode gives people with the condition a chance to win a Chicken Dinner

It may seem like nearly everyone is playing PUBG Mobile, but that isn’t quite true. But not everyone can enjoy the best possible PUBG Mobile experience, namely those with disabilities. But at least the developers are doing their bit to ensure that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the game. The guys behind PUBG Mobile recently introduced a new Colourblind mode with the 0.17.0 update that was released earlier this month. The new mode is aimed at helping those with deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia better see important visual elements like the map better and hopefully, get more chicken dinners. Hopefully, more popular games will introduce a similar mode to ensure that everyone gets to enjoy their games.

As mentioned earlier, Colourblind mode was added as part of the v0.17.0 update, popularly known as the 2nd Anniversary Celebration. The update also introduced a bunch of new features, including an amusement park added to Erangel. The park will appear randomly in three locations and features interactive arcade machines and rides like Hunt Game, Space War, Trampoline and Launcher. These need to be activated with game tokens. The most interesting feature is the Launcher that launches people in the air, and then they can glide back down via their parachute.

New achievements can also be unlocked including the return of First Anniversary Cake Collection Achievement, Second Anniversary New Mini-Game Achievement, Anniversary Login Exclusive Achievement. On top of this, the 1st Anniversary themed items are returning to the Redemption Shop for those who missed out last year’s anniversary event.

See ALL the things!

Steam breaks 20 million concurrent users as people stay at home due to coronavirus

Since Coronavirus or COVID-19 has so many people stuck at home, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Steam broke its all time concurrent users record, with a whopping 20 million concurrent users online on Valve's platform at the same time. That's 20,313,451 users to be exact, according to SteamDB.

Just a month ago, Steam had broken the record and reached 19 million concurrent users, this was back when the virus was rampant mostly in China. As more people stay at home, we can probably expect the number of concurrent users on Steam to also go up. Well, now's as good a time as any to catch up on that backlog of games.

Out of the 20 million users online, a peak of 6.2 million were in game at the same time. The majority of them on CS:GO, which was on the top of the steam charts. In fact, it has been beating Dota 2 on multiple occasions now. Dota 2 was higher as of writing this though.

Outside of Steam, in its first week, Call of Duty: Warzone drew in an impressive 15 million players. We'd love to see the number of players online on Fortnite as well, as schools around the world continue to close.

AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors with up to 8 Cores 16 Threads launched, might give Intel a run for their money

Getting an AMD-powered laptop can be quite the hassle given that not all retailers stock them and manufacturers are a little slow to bring the same into the Indian market. All of that is set to change today with the launch of the AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processor lineup. Announced at CES 2020, the AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processor lineup, codenamed “Renoir”, consists of eight SKUs of varying configurations that have up to 8 cores / 16 threads and have their TDP ranging from 15W to 45W. While AMD has been steadily gaining market share in the desktop and mobile segment, the revenue from these two segments are vastly different. The mobile segment is much larger than the desktop segment and if the performance charts are to be believed, then Intel will have to seriously reconsider their mobile CPU strategy.

The Ryzen 2000 and Ryzen 3000 mobile processors have been in the market for quite some time but the number of laptops being powered by these SKUs are a small fraction compared to the Intel-powered laptops. As of writing this article there are 64 AMD Ryzen powered laptops on Flipkart compared to 734 laptops powered by Intel Core i-series processors. This is not considering Pentium, Athlon, Atom and Celeron processors. On Amazon, there are 44 AMD powered laptops and over 2000 Intel powered laptops. This isn’t a proper representation of the market since product filters aren’t proper on either ecommerce site and there are multiple listings for the same SKU but you should notice the obvious disparity. AMD wants to change this and the Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors are how it hopes to do so. Let’s take a look at the SKUs.

AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors list

The launch line up consists of 8 SKUs of which 1 will be coming out a little later. There are two H-series processors for gaming and content creation use cases, five U-series processors for ultrathin form factors and one HS-series processor which packs in a little extra punch over the H-series processors while consuming less power. The HS SKU is the one which is slated for a delayed launch.

AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors 4800H 4600H

Under the H-series, there is the Ryzen 7 4800H and the Ryzen 5 4600H. The Ryzen 7 4800H comes with an 8 Core / 16 Thread configuration with 7 CUs (@1600 MHz) for graphics and the Ryzen 5 4600H features a 6 Core / 12 Thread configuration with 6 CUs (@1500 MHz) for graphics. Both processors have a nominal TDP of 45W but OEMs can configure the same from 35-45W.

AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors

In the U-series, AMD has 2x Ryzen 7, 2x Ryzen 5 and 1x Ryzen 3 processors. The entire lineup has a nominal TDP of 15W but OEMs can configure their platforms between 12-25W. The base clock of U-series processors are much lower than their H-series counterparts but the IGP appears to be more powerful with more CUs and higher clock speeds. Some of the AMD SKUs do not have multi-threading so buyers should pay attention to the core configuration before making a purchase. If you’ve seen the Ryzen 2000 and Ryzen 3000 mobile lineups then the IGP configuration might have caught your attention. These new Ryzen 4000 mobile processors have fewer CUs for graphics but they are clocked higher. You can thank the 7nm process for allowing higher clocks. At the same time, adding more CUs would have bumped up the TDP and made these processors unsuitable for a lot of the ultralight configurations. So one might wonder what kind of gaming performance can one expect from this new configuration? AMD claims to have that covered.

Gaming on AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors

AMD compared some of the top esports titles running on the new Ryzen 7 4800U and compared the same when run on an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor. These included titles such as CS:GO, League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch, GTA V, Dota 2 and Fortnite. All titles were shown to perform better on the Ryzen mobile processor. It should be noted that the Intel Core i7 - 1065G7 is 15W SKU with 4 cores and 8 threads.

AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors gaming

It would have been interesting to see how the Ryzen processor performed against the Core i7-10710U which is also a 15W SKU but has 6 cores / 12 threads and a higher clocked IGP.

Realme 6i to come with a 5,000mAh battery, 16MP selfie camera and waterdrop notch

Public launch events may have been cancelled because of the COVID-19 outbreak but companies are not shying away from launching new smartphones. Hot on the heels of launching the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro, the Chinese upstart is now set to launch the Realme 6i on March 17. To build up hype around the upcoming product, Realme has also gone ahead and confirmed a few features that the Realme 6i will come with.

The Realme 6i will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 SoC, a seemingly new chipset from the Taiwanese chip-maker under the gaming-oriented G-series, along with a 48MP quad-camera setup and 18W fast charging. The features seem in line with what Realme introduced in the Realme 6 earlier this month.

Furthermore, the Realme 6i will also come with a large 5,000mAh battery and will draw power through a USB-C port. Apart from that, there will be a 16MP selfie camera, which is a significant upgrade over the Realme 5i’s 8MP front camera. Yet, Realme will stick to the waterdrop notch in this smartphone despite the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro going notch-less and embracing the punch-hole design.

Considering most of the features have been confirmed before the launch by Realme, the only thing left was the fingerprint sensor. While the 6-series comes with side-mounted fingerprint sensors, a live image spotted on FCC last month revealed the fingerprint sensor will be placed on the rear panel.

The smartphone is due to launch on March 17th 2020 in an online launch event.

Google reveals requirements to run Stadia in 4K via web, no Mac support for 4K yet

Google Stadia was set to be the next big thing in the world of gaming, but it doesn’t seem to have set the world on fire. Not yet anyway. The company has been slowing improving its services. It recently started rolling out 4K support for the web and now it has revealed the minimum requirements needed to play 4K games on the web. Google Stadia’s support page now mentions the required specs and interestingly, it only mentions that it is supported on Windows and Chrome OS, which means that Mac users won’t be able to play in 4K on their devices. At least, not at the moment.

As per the page, 4K gameplay is only possible with VP9 hardware decoding. Since that tech is not supported on Mac, the service is not available on that system. Of course, gamers will also need to have a 4K monitor and a Pro subscription in order to use the service.

You can also check to see your system supports VP9 hardware decoding by opening Google Chrome and typing chrome://gpu in the address bar and pressing enter. Users will then have to scroll down to ‘Video Acceleration Information’ and if they see a ‘Decode VP9’ option, then their device will support 4K gameplay on Stadia.

If you’re not quite familiar with Google Stadia, here’s a quick recap. Unlike most other gaming systems, Stadia doesn’t need you to have high-end hardware in order to play games. Titles are streamed to you via the cloud, so in theory, all you would need would be a controller, a display and a high-speed internet service. This also means that you could start playing a game on the TV, then continue playing on your phone if you have to leave the house.

You can find out more about the service here.

Google Stadia was launched in November but received mixed reviews. Many people also noted that the service was missing some key features during the launch. It should also be noted that the service isn’t available in India yet, but it should make it to the country at some point. Hopefully, by then, all the flaws and niggles with the service should be fixed.
