PUBG Mobile Lite updated to v0160, includes gameplay changes, improvements and Spring Celebration theme

PUBG Mobile Lite, the ‘lite’ version of the popular battle royale-themed mobile game has been updated to version 0.16.0. The update is called the Spring Celebration update and the theme is ‘Varenga in Bloom'. As part of the update, the developers have added Cherry Blossom areas in the Varenga map, that have high odds of spawning a picnic basket. Players can then search these picnic baskets to find items like Flare Guns and festive Paint Grenades. While Flare guns can be used to call in an airdrop, the paint Grenades are said to release a colourful paint that dye characters in Spring colours. 

Besides all this, the 0.16.0 update also includes new additions to the Varenga map. This includes a shelter with resources to the North as well as more roads leading to Urban area. The developers also say that they have fine-tuned the industrial area to the Southwest factory.

The update also begins some gameplay changes. Players will now be able to level up specific weapons. Further, when reloading their main weapon, players have the option to quickly switch and fire using their secondary weapon. There are also new features such as Career Results, Room Cards, a new look for character UI and more. The developers further note that Classic mode and PlayLab have been combined as a new Battle Royale mode. Finally, the game is now available in Arabic, French and Spanish. 

For those who don’t know, PUBG Mobile Lite is designed for phones with more modest hardware that may not be able to run the standard version of PUBG Mobile properly. The game offers a smaller download size and can run on devices with lower RAM. The map in the game is also a little smaller and supports a maximum of 60 players. Intel is working on a chip that can actually detect smells of 10 hazardous materials

The sense of smell is one of the most important senses in a human being. We’re able to detect a lot through our sense of smell but this particular sense is incredibly difficult to teach AI and even more difficult for AI to precisely detect smells. But, that’s all about to change as researchers from Intel and Cornell University have trained a neuromorphic chip to detect the smells and scents of 10 dangerous and hazardous materials. This could be a game-changer as it related to autonomous robots that will be able to detect bombs, explosives and even infections and disease. 

According to a report by Engadget, the researchers used Intel’s Loihi, which is a neuromorphic chip and designed an algorithm that was based on the human brain’s ability to recognize different smells through the olfactory circuit. Researchers were able to replicate the process of how smells stimulate the olfactory cells in the nose which are then sent to the brain’s olfactory system. It is this closed system that scientists and researchers have been able to mimic and pass on to the Loihi’s silicon circuitry. 

Intel says that the chip can identify 10 different smells including ammonia, methane and even acetone. Researchers say that the chip can detect these smells even when stronger smells are present. The chip can separate the different smells and detect which ones could be harmful to you. 

A senior research scientist at Intel, Nabil Iman says that their work is a “prime example of contemporary research taking place at the crossroads of neuroscience and artificial intelligence”. But, it seems that the Intel and Cornell researchers aren’t the only ones hard at work on this new technology as the Google Brain Team is working with scent manufacturers and perfumers to connect sense molecules with perceived smells. Other scientists from around the world are also working on this technology. The Russians have used Ai to sniff out dangerous gas mixtures and their researchers have also tried to recreate the smell of an extinct flower through machine learning. 

Imam adds, “Understanding how the brain's neural circuits solve these complex computational problems will provide important clues for designing efficient and robust machine intelligence”.

Adobe is offering Photoshop and other apps for free to students stuck at home due to coronavirus Heres how you can get it

Stuck at home and missing your classes because of Covid-19? Adobe is offering temporary, free remote access to its Creative Clouds apps including Photoshop and InDesign to students. This move could come as a boon to students who need to continue using Adobe apps for their studies and coursework.

To get access to the apps, the school or college has to be an Education customer of Adobe. The temporary license will only be available until May 2020. However, getting access can be a little tedious.

For one, the school IT admin has to request home access via an application form here. Adobe is offering the entire Adobe CC desktop apps to student and teachers who can’t otherwise access the apps on their home machines.

With educational institutions going on a long hiatus because of the viral outbreak, making the apps temporarily free could help to get some work done.

And Adobe is not the only one. Popular synth makers MOOG and Korg have also made their music apps free for download for people stuck at home to create music even if they don’t know how to play the physical instruments.

Similarly, Microsoft is also offering free licenses to Microsoft Teams to startups and business to better manage employees working from home.

Google says it has no plans to share location data of users to fight coronavirus

While Google is exploring ways to inform people about the spread of the novel coronavirus, the company said it will not be sharing location data of users with governments or industries to track people who may have contracted the COVID-19 disease.

Google has been in talks about industry leaders and governments to see how it could respond to the pandemic. The company does have a treasure trove of location data and that can be identified as a potential asset for the fight, but the company is also well aware of privacy concerns.

Google put out a statement saying they have not shared any “aggregate anonymized location data for this purpose as we are still assessing the best way to help”. The company further mentioned that it has no plans to share location data with industries or firms.

Having said that, Google still hasn’t completely ruled out using location data in the future, but in limited ways.

“We’re exploring ways that aggregated anonymized location information could help in the fight against COVID-19,” a Google spokesperson told Bloomberg. “One example could be helping health authorities determine the impact of social distancing, similar to the way we show popular restaurant times and traffic patterns in Google Maps.”

Nokia 43-inch Smart TV with JBL speakers expected to launch soon in India

Flipkart has tweeted saying “Introducing the @nokia #SmartTV with Sound By JBL, coming soon in a new dimension. Watch this space for updates.” One could be mistaken for thinking that Flipkart is suggesting that the 55-inch TV that was launched earlier will be back in stock. However, the “new dimension” in the tweet hints that we could get the TV in a different size. So why is the internet speculating that this could be a 43-inch TV? Well, Nokia power user claims that the TV launching will be a 43-inch one and will be priced at Rs 30,999. 

Nokia launched the 55-inch Android Smart TV back in December 2019 and it was quite feature-rich when it launched. We expect the 43-inch variant of the TV to house the same specifications as its bigger sibling. Speaking of the specifications of the 55-inch Nokia TV, it runs on Android TV 9 out of the box with support for Netflix and Prime Videos. Running on Android TV, users also have access to the Play Store for their streaming services and apps needs. Coming to the panel, it has a 10-bit ADS panel with 400 nits of brightness. It covers 85-90% of 10-bit colour space. The TV also supports Dolby Vision which is Dolby’s object-based HDR rendering. 

When it comes to audio, the Nokia Smart TV audio is powered by JBL with 24W of sound output. The sound tuning and equalizer are catered to by JBL. The TV has two full-range drivers, front-facing tweeters and down-firing mid and low range drivers. There is no separate woofer. The TV also supports Dolby Audio and DTS TruSurround. The 55-inch Nokia Smart TV runs on a quad-core processor coupled with 2.25GB RAM and 16GB storage. 

All these features at 30,999 and 43-inch screen size may seem tempting. However, the Android TV market is heating up in the budget segment. Recently Kodak launched a bunch of new Android smart TVs all of which are running on Android TV 9 out of the box. One of the TVs is a 43-inch TV. Lets quickly highlight some of the specifications. The 43-inch TV boasts of a 4K resolution along with support for HDR 10 and Dolby Vision along with support for Wide Colour Gamut. It is priced at Rs 23,999. For audio, the TVs have 30 Watt speakers with support for DTS and Dolby Digital Plus.

Call of Duty: Warzone gets a solo mode

In a bit of news that is sure to interest ‘lone wolf’ gamers out there. Activision has announced that they have added a solo mode in their new free-to-play title, Call of Duty: Warzone. The new game was launched a couple of weeks back and only offered players the option to team up in squads of three. So if players didn’t have two other players to play with, they would have no other option than to play with other random players. And as anyone who has tried playing cooperatively with random players online will tell you, your chances of success drastically go down. 

As per their blog, the solo mode is petty much the same as the solo mode that one would expect in other battle royale titles like PUBG or Fortnite. So the player will be on their own with no option to be rescued by teammates in case they are knocked down.  However, unlike those games, Call of Duty: Warzone will drop players in with 149 other players, so the chances of victory are even slimmer. 

Of course another big difference between Call of Duty: Warzone and other battle royale games in the Gulag, that gives players a chance to re-enter the match. The solo mode still gives players that chance, but if they lose the 1v1 gunfight, they will not be able to return to the match and will have to try all over again.   

As mentioned before, Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the game supports cross-play between all three platforms.
