Canon EOS R6 specs leak, point to 4K video and full frame sensor

Canon EOS R6 leaked

Canon has been making a lot of noise in the mirrorless space, with two cameras in the market, and the EOS R5 having been announced. Canon, it seems is refusing to let up the pressure its putting on the competition, as information around the EOS R6 has just leaked. If the rumours are true, but launch time, the EOS R6 would be the fourth full-frame mirrorless camera Canon would have in the market. Nikon, in comparison, only has two at the moment and Sony has six.

The leaked specifications paint a very interesting picture of the EOS R6. The camera is rumoured to sport a 20-megapixel full-frame sensor along with in-body image stabilization. Other notable features might include video recording in 4K at 60fps while 120fps would be limited to fullHD recording. The burst mode on the EOS R6 is expected to be 12fps while using the mechanical shutter and 20fps when using the electronic shutter. The camera is also expected to sport dual SD card slots.

It's interesting to see the leaks of the EOS R6 surface so quickly, given that the company just announced the EOS R5. The announcement of the R5 was also preceded by numerous leaks. It would appear that Canon is positioning the EOS R5 and the EOS R6 as the mirrorless counterparts to the 5D and 6D series of full-frame DSLRs. Canon had officially confirmed that the EOS R5 will be able to shoot 8K video at 30fps using the entire width of the sensor. Besides that, the company says its Dual Pixel AF will work as advertised while shooting in 8K.

The mirrorless segment has finally started to pick up significant steam with Canon and Nikon also jumping into the foray. This brings all the major camera manufacturers into the mirrorless fold. Canon, besides launching more mirrorless cameras, is also focused on releasing RF mount lenses. The company already has 11, very high-quality lenses available, which between them cover the entire focal length that most photographers would ever care to use, that is, everything from 15mm to 200mm. Just like on the EF lens lineup, Canon will maintain an L-series and a non-L series portfolio for the RF mount lenses.

Apple launches new MacBook Air, lowers base price, doubles the storage

Apple has today announced the new MacBook Air with upgraded configuration, and most importantly, a lower starting price than the machine it replaces. The 2018 MacBook Air (Review) had originally launched at a starting price of Rs 1,14,990, while the new MacBook Air has a starting price of Rs 92,900.

The New MacBook Air sports more than just a new price tag. The 2019 MacBook Air will start with 256GB of minimum storage, a huge relief to those who preferred to buy the cheapest Air but couldn’t digest the measly 128GB storage. The maximum possible storage has also been doubled, going up to 2TB from the previous 1TB. Those who felt that the dual-core Intel processor on the MacBook Air wasn’t enough power, the new machines will come with 10th generation Intel processors, configurable with up a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. Apple’s press release states the presence of Intel Iris Plus graphics, leading us to believe that the new MacBook Air will sport Ice Lake version of the Core i7, based on the 10nm manufacturing process. The other significant update to the new MacBook Air is the Magic Keyboard, with Apple ditching the butterfly switches in favour of those found in the Magic Keyboard that ships with the iMac. Apple had already shipped the 16-inch MacBook Pro (Review) with this keyboard, and now, it's coming to the 2019 MacBook Air as well. The MacBook Air will still continue to come with two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one of which is used for charging, but Apple says that users can now connect displays with resolutions of up to 6K, a first for the MacBook Air.

The new MacBook Air will continue to ship in the 13-inch form-factor, with the narrow-bezel display sporting a resolution of 2560X1600. The IPS display now has a 16:10 aspect ratio, in line with that of the new MacBook Pro. As of now, Apple India’s website only lists 8GB RAM as an option, although they are configurable with up to 16GB RAM.

The new MacBook Air will be available starting next week at Apple Authorized retailers for a starting price of Rs 92,900.

New iPad Pro with LiDAR Scanner, dual rear cameras is here, starts at Rs 71,900

Apple has announced the launch of its new iPad Pro. The new tablet comes with  A12Z Bionic chip making it faster and more powerful than before. Further, it adds an ultra-wide camera,  LiDAR Scanner that delivers depth-sensing capabilities and more. The company claims it is the best device for augmented reality (AR).

New iPadOS

The company says “ trackpad support has been completely reimagined for iPad” instead of copying it from the macOS. As users move their finger across the trackpad, the pointer elegantly transforms to highlight user interface elements. It also supports multi-touch gestures. The iPadOS 13.4 is designed for the touch-first experience on iPad. The cursor appears as a circle that highlights user interface elements, text fields and apps on the Home screen and Dock, giving a clear indication of what users can click on.

Most third-party apps work with no change at all, and developers can go even further with new APIs that let them deliver unique experiences in their apps. Further, updates coming to Apple’s iWork suite of productivity apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote — take full advantage of the trackpad.

The iPadOS 13.4 with trackpad support will be available on March 24 as a free software update for all iPad Pro models, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 4 and later.

Trackpad support will be available on any iPad running iPadOS 13.4 and work with Apple’s Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2 and the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. Third-party mice connected over Bluetooth or USB are also supported.

Display and Performance

The new Apple tablet comes with Liquid Retina display — in both 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes. It features P3 wide colour support, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an anti-reflective coating. The eight-core GPU in the A12Z Bionic, along with an enhanced thermal architecture and tuned performance controllers, gives iPad Pro the highest performance ever in an iPad. It is combined with eight-core CPU and Neural Engine. The new iPad Pro is claimed to last up to 10 hours on a single charge.

Camera

The iPad Pro now sports a dual rear camera setup housed in a module similar to the one seen on the latest iPhones. It features a 2MP Wide camera for capturing photos and 4K video + a 10MP Ultra-Wide camera that zooms out two times. The new tablet now features five studio-quality microphones and four-speaker audio.

LiDAR Scanner

Apple is focusing on “LiDAR Scanner with the new iPad Pro. It measures the distance to surrounding objects up to 5 meters away, works both indoors and outdoors, and operates at the photon level at nano-second speeds. New depth frameworks in iPadOS combine depth points measured by the LiDAR Scanner, data from both cameras and motion sensors, and is enhanced by computer vision algorithms on the A12Z Bionic for a more detailed understanding of a scene.

Every existing ARKit app automatically gets instant AR placement, improved motion capture and people occlusion. Using the latest update to ARKit with a new Scene Geometry API, developers can harness the power of the new LiDAR Scanner to unleash scenarios never before possible.

The LiDAR Scanner improves the Measure app, making it faster and easier to automatically calculate someone’s height, while helpful vertical and edge guides automatically appear to let users more quickly and accurately measure objects.

Magic Keyboard

Apple has also introduced a new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. It comes with a floating design with smooth angle adjustment, a backlit keyboard and trackpad. The new keyboard attaches magnetically to iPad Pro. Unique cantilevered hinges allow smooth adjustments of the viewing angle up to 130 degrees. It features a scissor mechanism. Further, it comes with  USB-C pass-through charging, keeping the USB-C port on iPad Pro free for accessories including external drives and displays. It will be available for purchase in May.

Pricing and Availability

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be available in silver and space grey finishes.Storage configurations include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at INR 71,900 for the Wi-Fi model and INR 85,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at INR 89,900 for the Wi-Fi model and INR 1,03,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

The Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro will be available for purchase in May for INR 27,900 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and INR 31,900 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with layouts for over 30 languages, including simplified Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.

The second-generation Apple Pencil for iPad Pro is available for INR 10,900. The new Smart Keyboard Folio for the new iPad Pro is available in space grey for INR 7,500 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and INR 9.900 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with layouts for over 30 languages, including simplified Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.

Realme 2 Pro now receiving OTA update enabling VoWiFi, and enhanced swipe gestures

The Realme 2 Pro (review) has been out there for quite some time and is still receiving updates with new features. The phone was launched back in 2018 and is receiving the RMX1801EX_11_C.27 OTA update. The update includes the latest security patch and some new features.

The latest update brings VoWiFi support for Airtel and Jio customers. The technology helps improve call quality by using the WiFi connection to strengthen the network. The company also added VoWiFi support for Realme 3 Pro earlier this month.

Based on the screenshots posted on the Realme community page, the update is 660MB in size and comes with the March 2020 security patch. Additionally, the update also enables swipe gestures from both sides which will let Realme 2 Pro users swipe in from either side of the phone to go back to the previous menu or app. The feature can be enabled in the Settings app.

However, the update still keeps the Realme 2 Pro on Android 9. According to the roadmap shared by Realme, the phone is poised to get the Android 10 update sometime in June this year.

The update will be pushed out automatically to all users of Realme 2 Pro. To check if you have received it, head to the Settings app, scroll down to Software Updates and you should see the prompt to download and install a new update. The update is being rolled out in phases, so don’t fret if you haven’t received it yet. It’s likely to hit your smartphone in the next few days.

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro will come equipped with ToF sensor: Report

Rumours of the iPhone 12 series have started trickling in. We have been hearing a lot about the camera upgrades Apple could feature on its next flagship iPhones. Previously, Apple was tipped to add a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor for a better collection of depth information on the iPhone 12. However, the latest development claims that the ToF sensor will only be used on the Pro models, that is, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The information was unearthed by early iOS 14 code, obtained by 9to5Mac. According to the code, two of the three devices will be sporting a ToF sensor. The devices are identified as d5x, which points to the iPhone 12 series. To recall, 2019’s iPhone lineup was identified as d4x in the iOS 13 code.

A ToF sensor uses a projector to capture point clouds in the environment and create a 3D model of it. Hence, it will help the iPhone 12 Pro models to create accurate scene depth mapping. Further, the measure app won't require users to pan their phones around a space to measure something within it.

According to Weinbach, Apple is going to use a 64-megapixel large-format sensor for the primary camera, a huge departure from the 12-megapixel sensor found on the current iPhones.  He also says that with the iPhone 12, users will be able to use all three lenses in night mode. Moreover, the main camera will finally see an upgrade to the aperture on the main camera’s lens, going from the current f/1.8 to f/1.6.

According to the tipster, other aspects of the iPhone 12 that will also be upgraded are the battery, which is to be slightly bigger than the one on the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
