Notorious streaming app, Popcorn Time is back

Something like this was bound to happen. For folks who’ve been stuck at home because of the Coronavirus outbreak, here’s some respite for you. Notorious movie streaming app, Popcorn Time is now back after lurking in the dark for the past two years. For people who don’t have Netflix or cannot access the service, this comes as a godsend. Of course, this is incredibly illegal but at this time of doom and gloom, this comes as a ray of sunshine for some folks.

The service first went live in 2014 but was quickly shut down through repeated lawsuits, raids and such by heavy hitters in the movie industry. The service worked on the same principle as torrenting but did away with the use of a client, making it easier for a regular Joe to access films and TV shows. It was an extremely convenient service that people latched on to like moths to a flame.

After the site’s two year hiatus, it popped back up again a few days ago as version 4.0. The UI remains the same easy-to-use system but the creators of the app urge users to use VPNs, lest they be detected by their local ISPs.

This comes at a strange and uneasy time for the world as millions of people prepare to hunker down in fear of the Coronavirus outbreak and we could all do with a little entertainment. So, stay tuned to Digit as we do our best to get you the juiciest news and reviews at this time of need.

6 new films that have been postponed or cancelled because of the Coronavirus outbreak

It’s no secret that the world is facing one of the biggest challenges in the Coronavirus outbreak and it looks like this is just the beginning. Every major industry has been hit by the virus and it’s no different in the world of entertainment as well. Major productions have been halted and some have even been cancelled outright. Smart move, we say. The summer movie season has just been cancelled as well. Theatres have all been shut and any hope of escaping the drudgery of the modern world just got a lot smaller. Namely, the confines of our houses. Want to feel a little worse about having to self isolate? Well, here’s a list of all the films that have delayed and postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak.

Black Widow:

Marvel fans were eagerly awaiting the release of the first film in Phase 4 of the MCU but China clearly had other plans as the Coronavirus outbreak forced the film to be postponed to an unspecified date. The announcement was made on March 17 by Disney. Who knows when the film will now be released and how this affects Phase 4 of the MCU, moving forward.

A Quiet Place 2:

A sequel to the critically-acclaimed horror film, A Quiet Place 2 was supposed to continue the story of Emily Blunt and her three children as they navigate a devastated landscape, looking for a way to escape the creatures that laid waste to the Earth. Well, that’s no longer the case as the film has been postponed indefinitely. Looks like it wasn’t alien monsters but a microscopic virus that laid waste to theatres, huh?

James Bond: No Time To Die

There are so many puns and jokes to be made here but being the gentleman I am, I shall refrain from making those comments. Although, I will say that No Time to Die was looking to be a box office bomb anyway and may have averted that fate with the timely postponement of the film. James Bond: No Time To Die has now been shifted to a November 25 US premier.

Fast and the Furious 9

There are 9 films in this series? Wow, we barely got through the 6th one and there are 9 now? Anyway, the Vin Diesel action film was due to open in US theatres sometime in May but has been pushed back by an entire year! So, if you were looking to watch Mr Diesel mumble his way through bombastic action, then you’ll have to wait until 2021.

Mulan:

Sigh, Disney’s really feeling the fever, right now. With the postponement of Black Widow and the middling box office returns of Alladin and The Lion King, Disney are taking another hit as Mulan, their live-action remake of the animated classic has been postponed to an unspecified date.

The New Mutants:

What can we say about the trouble production of New Mutants? The film has been through the wringer of the Hollywood system and fans were eagerly waiting for the big-screen adaptation of the seminal series from the ’80s. But, alas, it was not to be as the film’s release has been postponed indefinitely. The film was supposed to come out in April 2020 but the Coronavirus had other plans.

Well, we’re in it for the long run now, folks. If you’re in self-quarantine and need some films to watch. Check back on Friday as we have our weekly binge guides to tide you over. Until then, stay tuned to Digit for the best tech news and reviews.

Redmi Note 9S With quad camera setup set to launch on March 23

Xiaomi has revealed that the Redmi Note 9S will launch on March 23. The information comes from the Xiaomi Singapore Twitter handle along with the Xiaomi Malaysia Facebook page. It seems as though the Redmi Note 9S will be a smaller version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. The Xiaomi Singapore Twitter handle reads, “The wait is over, and we are excited to announce: Redmi Note 9S, see you on 23 March 2020!” The Xiaomi Malaysia Facebook page reads, “Every special moment deserves to be captured. That's the reason we’re bringing out the #RedmiNote9s. What are you looking forward to most in the #RedmiNote9 series? Leave your thoughts below!” The image posted on Twitter suggests that the smartphone will come with a quad-camera setup whereas the Facebook image shows a punch-hole camera in the front. Both teasers shed light on the March 23 reveal date.

Coming to the specifications, if information circulating the internet is to be believed, then the Redmi Note 9S could be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 720G SoC. However, since this is the same chipset powering the Redmi Note 9 Pro, it is possible that the Redmi Note 9S will be powered by a MediaTek SoC. It is also suggested that the smartphone will come with a Full-HD+ display, smaller than the Redmi Note 9 Pro. It could also feature 4GB or 6GB RAM with 64GB and 128GB storage options. It is speculated to have the same battery capacity as the Redmi Note 9 Pro clocking in at 5020mAh battery along with support for 18W fast charging.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max launched in India on March 12 priced at Rs 12,999 and Rs 14,999 respectively. You can read more about the 2 smartphones here.

Airtel may soon offer One Airtel bundles that offer mobile, DTH, broadband and landline services: Report

It seems like Airtel may soon launch a new bundled plan by the end of the month. According to a report by 91Mobiles, the telecom operator plans to launch new One Airtel plans, These plans are said to offer all four of Airtel’s services, namely postpaid, DTH, fibre and landline services. The new plan has reportedly been launched to take on Reliance Jio’s Triple Play scheme.

The report claims that the new plans will be launched around March 25 and will have a limited rollout. It further adds that the operator will initially offer three plans under One Airtel, and it will start from Rs 899 and go all the way up to Rs 1,899. As per the report, the Rs 899 plan would over 75GB+10GB of mobile data, and the Rs 413 pack of Airtel’s DTH service. It would also include free OTT services. However, those who get this pack will not get any broadband benefits. By comparison, the Rs 1,899 plack would include 75GB+10GB+10GB of mobile data along with a 500Gb broadband pack, the Rs 500 DTH pack and OTT services.

The bundled plans would be quite useful to those with multiple Airtel services as they would be able to make only one single payment instead of multiple payments. This should make this less tedious while also speeding up the whole process.
