Microsoft Teams adds 12 million daily active users in a week as employees work from home amid the Coronavirus outbreak
Microsoft says its Teams workplace chat and collaboration tool now has 44 million daily active users as of March 18. The tool added 12 million daily active users in the last week. To recall, Microsoft had shared a figure of 32 million as of March 11. Further, the figure is up from the 20 million active users trumpeted by Microsoft in January. However, as more employees started working from home, the figure rose to 44 million within a week. It indicates the huge spike in remote work to mitigate the spread of coronavirus. Moreover, 440,000 employees at Accenture alone are signed up to use the thing.
To help the rise in remote work, Microsoft is introducing new features to its Teams tool. These include background noise suppression during video calls. Moreover, the company may add a feature to read messages and write responses when things are running on low bandwidth or even entirely offline. It will be a welcome addition. It is also offering a new service to small businesses. It will make Teams more traditional phone system as it will be able to handle outgoing and incoming calls to regular phone numbers. Features like noise reduction and hand-raising is already available in rival Zoom’s app.
The company is also introducing Microsoft 365 Business Voice stateside, aimed at turning Teams into a complete phone system. However, the feature will only be made available in the United States as of now.
The Teams workplace chat and collaboration tool is being offered for free by Microsoft amid the coronavirus outbreak. The tool is being used by corporations, schools as well as educational institutions.

Whatsapp launches Coronavirus Information Hub to help fight fake information
It seems like fake news and WhatsApp go together as well as a Batman & Robin goes with George Clooney’s career. The two will always be connected, no matter how much the latter tries to wash their hands off the connection. However, to be fair, WhatsApp has been doing its bit to help curb the spread fo misinformation on its platform. It’s latest move is made to combat the spread of fake news and information of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has announced that it is working with WHO and UNICEF to provide a hotline where people can message to get information about the ongoing pandemic. It will also list information on the WhatsApp Coronavirus Information Hub, which can be accessed here. It should be noted that while the Hub is ready, the hotline will be ready to use in a bit.
“Getting up to date information about COVID-19 to local communities around the world is a critical piece of the international community’s efforts to stem the spread of the virus,” said Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said in a statement. “Partnerships with private sector companies like WhatsApp will help get this vital, real-time information from the World Health Organization and local health officials to billions of users around the globe.”
Further, WhatsApp has donated $1 Million to the Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). This grant will to the IFCN will support fact-checking for the #CoronaVirusFacts Alliance that space over 100 local organisations in at least 45 countries. The press release by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) states that WhatsApp has been working with over a dozen fact-checking organisations to bring their services directly into the messaging service. This will allow them to crowdsource and report on rumours that may be circulating. The grant will support the training of the use of advanced features within WhatsApp Business, including WhatsApp business API.
WhatsApp’s parent company, Facebook has also announced that it has committed to match $20 million in donations to match relief efforts for the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg stated that the social media platform was committing $10 million for the United Nations Foundation (UNF) and World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and an additional $10 million for the CDC Foundation. Facebook also plans to award $100 million in cash grants and ad credits for up to 30,000 small businesses in around 30 countries to address COVID-19th economic impact.

Heres what the Huawei P40, P40 Pro displays could look like
The Huawei P40 series is all set to be launched on March 26. However, ahead of the launch, new pictures of Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro have appeared online. They give us yet another look at the front of the devices.
The images come from the reputed tipster Evan Blass who took to Twitter to reveal the latest developments. The images reveal that the P40 will come with a flat panel, that at the best may flaunt slight curves. On the other hand, the P40 Pro would bring a Mate 30 like a curved display. Further, there is a slightly bigger cutout for the pair of selfie cameras on the P40 Pro. Beyond that, there really isn’t all that much to deduce from the images.
According to earlier leaks, Huawei P40 will be made available in silver, gold, black, blue, and the gradient Breathing Crystal finish. It is expected to sport a 52MP primary sensor + a 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens + a telephoto sensor. The Huawei P40 Pro is said to be made available in the same silver, gold, black, blue, and Breathing Crystal finishes as its standard model. Previously leaked renders have also shown a mint green colour option. The P40 Pro is expected to pack the same duo of 52MP and 40MP. Instead of a telephoto lens, it could come with a 5x periscope shooter and a time-of-flight sensor.
Coming to the Huawei P40 Pro Premium Edition, it is expected to be made available in Black and White variants. It is tipped to comprise of the 1/1.28” Sony IMX700 52-megapixel Hexadeca Bayer RYYB lens, a 1/1.5” Sony IMX650 40-megapixel ultrawide Cine RGGB lens, a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, a dual prism periscope zoom lens with 10x optical zoom and a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor.
