Oppo Find X2 Lite with Snapdragon 765G and 48MP quad cameras leaked

Oppo Find X2 Lite has been leaked in its entirety on the internet courtesy of a report that lays bare everything there is to know about the upcoming phone. This ‘lite’ variant joins the Find X2 and X2 Pro range of phones that were announced last month.

The report by WinFuture reveals key features, specifications and expected pricing of the X2 Lite. Interestingly, it also mentions that the X2 Lite could essentially be rebranded as the much-rumoured OnePlus 8 Lite that could be unveiled on April 14 alongside the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Having said that, the X2 Lite itself seems to be a rebadged version of the Oppo Reno 3 Youth that launched back in February as the specifications remain same.

Oppo Find X2 Lite specifications and price

Oppo Find X2 Lite features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution AMOLED screen with a waterdrop notch that lends it a 20:9 aspect ratio. There’s an in-display optical fingerprint sensor for fast unlock.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 620 GPU. This is supported by 8GB RAM and 128GB storage with no option to expand the storage.

On the back, the quad-camera setup consists of a primary 48MP sensor with Optical Image Stabilization support, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP monochrome sensor and a 2MP depth sensor for portraits. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera housed within the notch cutout.

The X2 Lite is fitted with a 4,025mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging courtesy VOOC 4.0. It is capable of charging the phone up to 50% in 20 minutes.

According to the leaked report, the X2 Lite is expected to be priced at 499 Euros which roughly translates to Rs 40,000. There’s still no word around the launch of the Find X2 Lite in India yet.

Apple acquires AI startup Voysis in order to improve Siri

It looks like Apple is not resting on its laurels when it comes to its digital assistant Siri. According to a report by Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based company has acquired Voysis, an Irish company that aims to make it easier for computer systems to understand natural language. The report does not mention the financials behind the deal but it does quote an Apple spokesperson saying that the company “buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

As per the report, Voysis’ system taps into Wavenets, which is an AI-based method for creating computer speed that sounds more natural. The company’s webpage (now removed) stated that it was said to be able to convert a database to artificial intelligence that users can talk to. This system could prove invaluable for certain companies and apps.

This isn’t the only recent acquisition by Apple. The company recently bought Dark Sky, a popular weather app on iOS and Android. With that set, it also pulled the plug on the Android and WearOS versions of the same. The report also notes that it will cease support for websites that had embedded the data on their pages. It is not yet known how Apple plans to use Dark Sky’s, but will most likely cherry-pick pieces that will be integrated into its own Weather app. The new features might be introduced in iOS 14, which is the next version of the iOS platform. Apple generally unveiled the new OS at WWDC events that are held in June, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus, this year’s event will be an online-only event.

Xiaomi resumes Mi A3 Android 10 update rollout with April security patch

Xiaomi has resumed seeding the Android 10 update to Mi A3 users after the initial rollout revealed various issues and bugs. The Android 10 update brings the latest April security patch with it and is 1.33GB in size.

The update comes as a respite to people who were waiting for the Android 10 update as the Mi A3 comes under Google’s Android One program that means these phones should optimally get updates before any other phone, well, except the Pixel, of course.

The initial rollout of the Android 10 update for Mi A3 started in February but the company has only now resumed the rollout, hopefully ironing out all the bugs and issues that plagued the previous version. In between, Xiaomi also released a beta update for users with fixes for some primary issues like fingerprint sensor and battery life.

The new Android 10 update brings a dark theme, gesture navigation and more privacy controls to the Mi A3. Along with other bug fixes, the update also brings a couple of additions to the Pro mode in the Camera app like metering mode and focus peaking, among others.

Interestingly, the new update doesn’t bring Wi-Fi calling support that’s been rolled out by Reliance Jio and Airtel in India. Maybe it’s still under development and could come with the next update.

Xiaomi Mi A3 is a mid-range phone that is packed with the goodness of stock Android, featuring a Super AMOLED screen and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone has a 48MP triple camera setup on the back with a 32MP selfie camera on the front. The battery is rated as 4,030mAh with support for 18W fast charging. The phone currently retails starting at Rs 12,999 for the base variant (4GB RAM + 64GB) and Rs 14,999 for the maxed-out version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone comes in three colours-- More than White, Not Just Blue and Kind of Grey.

Coronavirus effect: WhatsApp introduces new limit on forwarding messages to fight fake news

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is the world's largest messaging service. It has more than 2 billion users globally of which more than 400 million users are in India alone. The company has announced a new way to curb misinformation in the time of the Coronavirus pandemic. On its official blog, WhatsApp says, “Last year we introduced users to the concept of messages that have been forwarded many times. These messages are labelled with double arrows to indicate they did not originate from close contact. In effect, these messages are less personal compared to typical messages sent on WhatsApp. We are now introducing a limit so that these messages can only be forwarded to one chat at a time.”

Put simply, this means that if you would like to share a message, and it is one that you received as a forward, marked with two arrows, then you will not be able to send this message to more than one contact or one chat at a time. This will help reduce the spread of misinformation and fake news in times when the slightest scare can cause panic. WhatsApp says that when it limited the number of forwards to 5, it saw a “25% decrease in message forwards globally”.

The WhatsApp blog goes on to say, “Is all forwarding bad? Certainly not. We know many users forward helpful information, as well as funny videos, memes, and reflections or prayers they find meaningful. In recent weeks, people have also used WhatsApp to organize public moments of support for frontline health workers. However, we’ve seen a significant increase in the amount of forwarding which users have told us can feel overwhelming and can contribute to the spread of misinformation. We believe it’s important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversation.”

WhatsApp has been an instrumental service in the fight against COVID-19. The Indian government has launched a WhatsApp chatbot to create awareness about the coronavirus. Users can chat with the bot by sending a message on +919013151515. You can learn more about it here. WhatsApp has also launched a Coronavirus Information Hub in an effort to help curb the spread of misinformation on its platform. The platform has also donated $1 Million to the Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). You can read more about it here. Lastly, WhatsApp has also limited its video status to 15 seconds in India to save bandwidth. You can read more about it here.

Poco confirms it is working on TWS earphones for India

Xiaomi brainchild Poco was brought back to life after a year being incommunicado. With the launch of the Poco X2 (review), the sub-brand led by Xiaomi’s C.Manmohan said 2020 is going to see a lot of Poco products. We already got a phone that wasn’t quite the successor of the Poco F1 but started off a new lineup of powerful mid-range hardware. But phones are not the only thing the young brand is focusing on.

In a recent poll conducted by Poco India GM C.Manmohan on Twitter, users said they would want a truly wireless headphone the most from Poco. This out of a choice pool that included Fitness wearable and a gamepad. TWS saw the highest share of votes at 38.2%.

Here's the big news, POCO fans! In the recently concluded poll by our GM @cmanmohan, the 'True wireless in-ears' got the highest vote share. Today, we want to confirm that it is in the works and will be coming to India. RT to welcome the new category in the #POCO fam! #POCOTWS pic.twitter.com/pL8yPbFuPd

— POCO India (@IndiaPOCO) April 7, 2020

Almost like clockwork, Poco announced a day later that Poco-branded Truly Wireless Earphones are in the works and will be coming to India.

The fan meeting saw more than 500 participants which also included a Q&A round with Manmohan.

Poco’s ambition of entering new gadget categories have been there since its inception. Back when the brand was headed by Jai Mani, he said in an interview in 2018 that along with working on new smartphones, they are also thinking about other gadget categories.

With Poco now spun-off as an independent brand, it’s a trajectory in the market seems to be going in line with the fierce rival it seems to have taken up as a mission to topple. We’re talking about Realme. Apart from launching smartphones that are almost identical to each other, Poco’s plans of working on a TWS may be a direct reaction to the Realme Buds Air (review) that happens to be a cheap alternative to Apple AirPods (looks the part too).

With global supply chains disrupted due to the coronavirus epidemic, however, it remains to be seen just how soon the young independent brand can launch the new product in India. So far, Xiaomi, Realme and other OEMs have postponed their launches owing to the current lockdown to curb the spread of the pandemic.
