OnePlus confirms the launch of new Bullets Wireless alongside OnePlus 8 series on April 14

OnePlus has confirmed that it will announce new Bullets Wireless earphones alongside the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro on April 14. Just this past week, the company also revealed its upcoming Warp Charge 30 wireless charging dock that may or may not debut with the phones next week.

The company took to Twitter to break the news saying that the new Bullets Wireless offers 10 hours worth of battery in just 10 minutes. This lines up with our previous report about the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z that was leaked by Ishan Agarwal.

An all-new 10/10 Bullets audio experience is coming your way soon.

— OnePlus (@oneplus) April 8, 2020

Based on that report, we know that the upcoming Bullets Wireless Z offers 20 hours worth of playback time on a single charge which is definitely a bump up from 14 hours on the Bullets Wireless 2. The new earphones are also said to offer 110ms Bluetooth latency and come in four colours-- Blue, Green, Black and White.

The upcoming Bullets Wireless earphones are reportedly IP55 certified which makes it dust-proof and water-resistant. Moreover, going by the images posted by Evan Blass, the Bullets Wireless Z seems pretty similar in design to that of the previous generation wireless earphones.

While many people had hoped that OnePlus will be bringing its first TWS earbuds with the OnePlus 8, unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Additionally, OnePlus has also revealed its Warp Charge 30 wireless charging dock for one of the OnePlus 8 phones that supports wireless charging. We’re willing to bet its the Pro variant, however, OnePlus could surprise us by launching the regular OnePlus 8 with wireless charging.

Having said that, OnePlus’ wireless charger supports 30W peak output and is capable of taking a OnePlus 8 phone to 50% in just half an hour. The dock is also Qi-certified and can be used with compatible chargers at 5W-10W output.

According to a previous leak, the Warp Charge 30 wireless charger could be priced at 70 Euros (~Rs 5,700).

Average Indian consumes 9GB data per month: DoT

It looks like India is consuming a lot of data on a daily basis. The Department of Telecom (DoT) in its annual report says that India is now the global leader in monthly data consumption, with average consumption per subscriber per month increasing 146 times from 62MB in 2014 to 9.06 GB in 2019. The cost of data has also reduced substantially, enabling affordable internet access for millions of citizens. With the introduction of Reliance Jio in the telecom space, the prices for mobile data packs have reduced making the telecom space more competitive giving users access to faster data at more affordable prices.

The DoT goes on to say that “the number of Internet subscribers (both broadband and narrowband put together) which was 636.73 million at the end of March 2019 increased to 687.63 million by the end of September 2019. The number of subscribers accessing the internet via wireless phones etc. was 665.37 million at the end of September 2019 while the number of wireline internet subscribers was 22.26 million. The number of Broadband subscribers was 563.31 million at the end of March 2019 and 661.27 million at the end of November 19. There was a net increase of 50.90 million in the Internet subscribers during the period from March 2019 to September 2019”. With such numbers, India is now the global leader in monthly data consumption.

In the race to stay competitive, all the service providers are offering combination data and voice calling to their customers making it affordable for most to access 1GB of data per day. From BSNL to Reliance Jio, Airtel and more are competing to retain customers from porting their numbers to other subscribers.

With the growing demand for internet on the go, one does question what is the quality of service from telecom providers. According to the April 2020 report from Opensignal says that Airtel is the best 4G network for video consumption and gaming while Vodafone is best for content creators. Jio, on the other hand, dominates the 4G landscape in India. You can read more about the Opensignal report here.

WhatsApp Beta hints at Advanced Search, password protection for chat backup, and new auto-download rules being added: Report

Its looks like WhatsApp will soon be getting a pretty big update. WhatsApp Beta recently was updated to v2.20.117 and the update fixed random crashes that here happening due to a missing library called “libcurve25519.so”. Besides this, WABetaInfo has managed to find a bunch of other features that will most likely soon be added to the stable version fo Whatsapp. This includes an Advanced Search feature, password protection for chat backups to Google Drive, and the removal of the auto-download option for frequently forwarded media.

The Advanced Search feature is said to complement the current chat search option by letting people search for media. The current search option is limited to only text messages, which can make looking for a specific photo, video or voice messages a little tricky.

WhatsApp is also working on a password protection feature for chat backups on Google Drive. This feature allows users to get a password for their chat, which needs to be entered in order to retrieve that backup. However, it is noted that this password is not saved or synced with the user’s WhatsApp account or on Facebook’s servers. So if they lose their password, their chat backup will be lost.

WhatsApp also seems to be doing its bit to curb the excessive number of message forwarding that happens on its platform. The report notes that it could soon allow users to disable the auto-downloading of frequently forwarded media like images, videos and documents on its platform. In related news, WhatsApp recently started limiting the number of people a message can be forwarded at a time to just one. You can find out more about that here.
