Use JioPOS Lite app to recharge other users and earn money: Heres how

Jio has launched a community recharge app called JioPOS Lite that you can use to recharge prepaid Jio connections and earn some money. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and you can become a Jio partner, helping others to recharge their numbers and earn a commission of 4.16 per cent.

The move comes soon after Airtel rolled out its Earn from Home scheme which also lets you recharge for other people’s Airtel connections and earn a 4 percent cashback on every recharge.

The JioPOS Lite is different from the MyJio app. Even on the MyJio App, you can recharge other people’s numbers but that won’t earn you a commission. Here’s how the app works -

How to earn money using JioPOS Lite app

Before you can start recharging phone numbers, you need to register yourself as a Jio partner on the app. It’s a fairly simple process and doesn’t require any hard copy of documents or physical verification. Any individual can log in to the platform and start recharging numbers.

You will need an active Jio number to sign up as a Jio Partner.

The commission offered is 4.16 percent to individuals recharging for others. There’s a passbook feature that lets you see your earnings and check transactions for the last 20 days.

After registration, the app will ask you to load money into the wallet. The denominations offered are Rs 500, Rs 1,000, and Rs 2,000. For every Rs 100 you spend on the app recharging numbers, you will get Rs 4.16 extra.

The app will show the popular recharge options for prepaid customers and there’s even a FAQ to help you out in case something goes wrong.

Foxconn restarts iPhone production, puts many safeguards in place

China continues to show signs of recovery from the Coronavirus as Foxconn restarts iPhone production in its China factory. Reopening the Zhengzhou plant where the highest number of iPhones are produced, the Taiwanese company is going to great lengths to ensure there is no second wave of the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to multiple reports, Foxconn and other manufacturers are taking great measures to ensure there is no second wave of the Coronavirus outbreak. The company is breaking its employees into groups of 20, and they must eat, sleep, work and travel together. The cafeteria now has barriers between tables in order to prevent employees from seeing or talking to each other. The company has also put QR code on all the seats, and employees are required to scan the QR code so that the company can track who sat where. Additionally, the company says that workers’ temperatures are being recorded every day and the company is also using an infrared video camera to monitor the body temperature of employees across the facility. Foxconn has also said that they are producing 2 million face masks daily for use by its 1 million-strong work-force.

All of the above measures have Foxconn feeling confident about ramping up production, and consequently meeting the deadline for the iPhone 12 launch in September. There had been growing concerns that due to the Coronavirus ravaging through China, Apple may have to delay the launch of the iPhone 12. Turns out, that may not be the case after all. While bigger factories have started coming back online in China, the smaller outfits in the supply chain are yet to catch up.

India’s manufacturing facilities all remain shut as the government-mandated lockdown of the country continues. The lockdown is currently mandated until the 14th of April, but the government is expected to asses the situation and decide on whether to extend the lockdown or lift it.

LG showcases new design for its upcoming smartphone, could launch on May 15

LG has showcased its new and minimalistic design approach for an upcoming smartphone. It’s a departure from the ongoing trend of rear camera bumps in the mobile phone industry as it features what LG is calling a “Raindrop” camera design, supplemented by a 3D Arc design on the edges.

VP Cha Yong-Duk, head of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab said, “Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG designs which have always been distinctive at first touch. This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward.”

South Korean publication Naver has reported that the upcoming LG smartphone looks set to launch on May 15 and is aimed at reproducing the success of LG’s Chocolate feature phone that was unveiled back in 2006. It was essentially an MP3 player that doubled up as a cellphone as it supported SIM cards. It sold more than 21 million units worldwide and is regarded as one of the best selling LG phones of all time.

As per the report, the phone could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 with a 5G modem and is aimed at the mid-range segment.

Going by the pictures shared by LG, the Raindrop camera design includes three cameras positioned in descending order of size, accompanied by an LED flash. The primary camera has a slight protrusion while the other elements are neatly tucked under the glass back. The rest of the rear panel seems to be free of any other element, however, could have the brand’s mark at the bottom.

The upcoming LG phone has curved edges, both on the front and the back with minimal bezels, and noticeably no notch cutout. While these images look preliminary, it’s entirely possible that the phone may use a pop-up camera mechanism for the front camera.

The phone looks elegantly designed, at least from the pictures, with the display curved on the edges that make up for a smooth grip when held in hand. LG says it has ensured that the new design changes minimize sharp edges, giving it an overall sleek profile.

Hangouts Meet is now named Google Meet, new privacy focused features announced

Google Hangouts Meet is now named just Google Meet. The name, Hangouts isn’t something Google is fond of anymore, in case you haven’t noticed by now. The original Hangouts app has been sounded the death knell with Google set to discontinue it from June 2020. Instead, Google rolled out two apps - Hangouts Chat and Hangout Meets. In a new move, Hangouts Meet has been renamed once again to Google Meet.

The new name was first spotted by Android Police. The mobile apps are still showing the old name, but that’s soon going to change given that the web app has already been renamed.

The Hangouts Meet app could only be used by G Suite users which is Google’s bundled services for office apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.

Google has written a detailed blog post talking about how Google Meet helps video conferences stay protected. That includes proactive protection against hijacking attempts, access controls for admins and more.

The reason for the change in name is not certain, however. But to be fair, Google has been shuffling around with names of its messaging apps for a while now. Yet, going by how Hangouts wasn’t quite popular among corporate users, a change in name can help compete with rivals like Zoom and Skype.

Yet, Google’s confused messaging app strategy continues. The company shuttered one of the two messaging apps it launched in 2017 by the name of Allo. Google+ was also shuttered around the same time, while the Hangouts app will be gone in 2020.

With Zoom facing privacy issues and Skype having conceded its share to Zoom, Google must have thought this would be the best time for a new product that comes with the trust the Google brand has acquired over the years of being secure and user-friendly.

Government working on new guidelines for social media platforms to make them responsible and accountable

The Indian government is finalising a notification for an amendment to the Information Technology Act (2000) which makes social media platforms responsible for the content shared there. The act has been amended with new intermediary guidelines to make social media platforms responsible for removing unlawful content that has gone viral.

The Economic Times reported citing two senior officials in the law ministry who said some minimal changes to the draft amendments have been made by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and the new guidelines are waiting for final approval.

The draft amendment was first reported by LiveLaw on March 12, 2020 and was tabled to make social media platforms ‘responsible and accountable’.

Presently, section 79 of the IT Act (2000) stipulates that an intermediary is not responsible for content uploaded by third parties. Moreover, the intermediaries are also required to act with due diligence and follow a ‘notice and takedown’ regime which stipulates that they will take down objectionable content after a judicial order has been issued against it.

There’s no law however that can make social media companies divulge information about users on their platform. However, the new guidelines might just force social media platforms to bypass encryption standards to find out who shared objectionable content.

“Notifying the guidelines is the only way to deal with the current situation where content is being created on one platform - Like TikTok - and being circulated on other social media like WhatsApp, while companies are not able to control it citing end-to-end encryption,” a government official told ET.

With the new guidelines in place, social media platforms have to take down objectionable content going viral on its platforms, even if the content originally came from another social media site. The ET report cited the government official asking companies like TikTok and Facebook to deploy better techniques and more investment to proactively take down objectionable content. Furthermore, platforms like WhatsApp cannot cite end-to-end encryption as a reason for inaction.

On top of this, it was announced that anyone who signs up for the service will get access to nine games for free. This includes GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection and Thumper. However, it should be noted that Stadia has not yet made its way to India and is currently only available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Belgium, France, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, and Denmark.

Google also noted that it has adjusted bandwidth to ensure a smooth experience. In order to reduce load, it has introduced a temporary feature that changes the default screen resolution from 4K to 1080p. However, gamers will still be able to choose their data usage option from the Stadia app.

This means that all end-users need is a display with an internet connection and a controller. So gamers can play games on their PC, mobile phone or their TV.

TikTok Coronavirus remedy puts families in the hospital

The Coronavirus has been quite a big deal, mostly because we do not have a vaccine for it. Making things worse is the fact that there is no sure shot cure for the Coronavirus either. This absence of a cure has led a lot of misinformation to spread, particularly with regards to home remedies. A new video doing the rounds on TikTok says that “drinking juice made of the seeds of Datura Stramonium” would keep the virus away. This has landed two families comprising 10 people in the hospital.

The video circulating talks about various home remedies for tackling the Corona Virus, but we urge you to not fall for it. In fact, the government has been insistent on people not falling for misinformation being spread through social media apps. WhatsApp, in doing its part, recently limited the way you could forward a message. However, this hasn’t stopped the occasional flow of misinformation in the form of WhatsApp forwards. Two families in the remote village of Alapalli in the Chittoor district did not heed the government’s warning and drank the juice from the seeds of Datura Stramonium. The plant is also called Jimsonweed in English and belongs to the Nightshade family, making all parts of the plant toxic in varying amounts. The family members were found semi-conscious by their neighbours and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.

In times when we are dealing with a really fast-spreading virus with no cure or vaccine, it is very important to pay attention to medical experts, and medical experts only. Currently there are two potential vaccines that are in the trial phase, one of which has been backed by Bill and Melinda Gates. Additionally, researchers are using computational chemistry to figure out potential sites on the virus where they could bind chemical agents that would render the virus harmless. As of now, we remain without both a cure and a vaccine. While there are medicines that have shown promise in curtailing symptoms, their efficacy has not been established in 100 percent of the cases.
