OnePlus 8 Lite launch postponed due to Coronavirus: Report

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro were announced just this past week on April 14 but the much rumoured “affordable” OnePlus 8 Lite missed the spotlight. But it seems like the phone could have been a victim of the prevailing Coronavirus situation around the world that has hit businesses, forcing them to come to a stand-still. As per the latest information coming in, the OnePlus 8 Lite could be well on its way to launch sometime this year, possibly after June 2020.

Steve H.McFly, better known as OnLeaks has stated in one of his tweets that initially OnePlus had planned to launch the Lite variant alongside the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro but due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the phone has been pushed back “at least to upcoming summer”. Here’s what he tweeted in response to a user:

According to my sources, that model was initially planned to be unveiled along with the #OnePlus8 series during yesterday's event but has been postponed (at least to upcoming summer) due to #CoronaVirus situation...

— Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks) April 16, 2020

The Coronavirus has disrupted the normal flow of life for everyone including businesses as nearly all big events, conferences and shows have either been moved online or completely scrapped. As such, smartphone manufacturing has come to a screeching halt and that’s said to affect the supply chain adversely.

OnePlus has unveiled its latest flagship phones globally but hasn’t revealed the Indian prices just yet and with the nation-wide lockdown in effect, it’s not known when the phones will go on sale. Having said that, the government’s new notice does ease the lockdown restrictions for e-commerce websites and smartphone manufacturers, so we might be getting our hands on the OnePlus 8 and maybe even the iPhone SE 2020 much sooner.

OnePlus 8 Lite rumoured specifications

The OnePlus 8 Lite could feature a 6.4-inch OLED screen with a Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution and a punch-hole cutout. The screen supports a 90Hz high refresh rate and is fitted with a fingerprint reader underneath. It is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and upto 256GB UFS 3.0 storage option.

The phone is rumored to have a triple camera setup that consists of a primary 48MP camera, a 16MP camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there could be a 16MP selfie camera, the same as OnePlus 8.

OnePlus 8 Lite is fitted with a 4,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging out-of-the-box. It is expected to be priced starting from CNY 2,999 (~Rs 32,000).

Nokia 93 PureView could come with 120Hz refresh rate display, 108MP, 64MP cameras and more

Nokia 9.3 PureView has been rumoured to come with a 120Hz refresh rate display and 108MP primary camera while a 64MP sensor can also make its way on board. The 9.3 PureView has been in the news ever since it didn’t show up at Nokia’s virtual MWC 2020 event that saw the launch of Nokia 8.3, 5.3, 1.3 and a revamped Nokia 5310 XpressMusic.

The Nokia 9.3 PureView was then said to be delayed to Q3 2020 and now the rumour mill is picking up on more details around the phone. According to a tweet by Nokia anew, the 9.3 PureView could come with a 108MP camera that uses a Samsung sensor and a secondary 64MP camera that uses Sony’s sensor.

It also seems like the company will be abandoning its computational photography approach with its latest flagship phone for a more standard setup. One of the sensors will support OIS as well.

Nokia has experimented with 24MP, 20MP, 48MP camera sensors for the 9.3 PureView as per earlier reports but there’s still a while before we can see the phone in real life.

Recently, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global teased his favorite colour options for the upcoming Nokia 9.3 and states that he prefers the Polar Night colour and something that’s new and bold like the copper versions of previous Nokia phones.

The Nokia 9.3 will likely be powered by top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip with 5G support. Previous leaks indicate that the phone could come with a 6.29-inch OLED screen that has a QHD+ resolution and we already know that it is also slated to be a high refresh rate screen.

As many parts of the world are currently under a total lockdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak, it has led smartphone companies to take a backstage as far as the launches are concerned. Nevertheless, OnePlus and Apple recently announced their new smartphones and we expect more companies to follow after the lockdown ends.

Reliance and Facebook might team-up to launch WeChat-like super app for India

Reliance Industries and social-media giant Facebook could come together to create a WeChat like super app for India. The report comes in the backdrop of a nation-wide lockdown that’s in effect till May 3 to curb the spread of Coronavirus in India. WeChat is a multi-purpose messaging app in China that’s used for text-messaging, social media, mobile payments, flight booking and more which is why it’s often dubbed as a “super app”.

According to a report published by The Economic Times that cites four people familiar with the matter, Reliance And Facebook are “exploring the possibility” of a multipurpose app built off the back of WhatsApp. This app will not only serve as a messaging platform but also a one-stop-shop for users to shop for groceries or apparel and even pay by JioMoney.

The concept is very similar to China’s WeChat that offers a wide range of services to users from its app and has over one Billion monthly active users. The app has become a part of China’s lifestyle since its launch back in 2011. With such a huge user base, WeChat eventually fell prey to China’s mass surveillance system with the user's activity now being monitored by the government on the app.

In juxtaposition, India being the world’s largest democracy is now seeing its biggest conglomerate play around with the idea of a super app backed by the world’s most popular social media company Facebook. As per the ET report, Morgan Stanley has been appointed as the investment banker for the project with consultants and lawyers looking at taxes and Intellectual Property Rights.

Reliance want’s to engage with users and a super app will allow the company to expand its consumer businesses while also providing an understanding of the spending habits of its users.

“The negotiations are being compartmentalized. So, someone working on the commercial side wouldn’t know what’s happening on the technology or the financial aspects of the deal. This is going to be a defining partnership, and it’s not just a financial investment. The deal is about creating value and a business that would differentiate both Facebook and Reliance,” a person with direct knowledge of the project told this to ET.

While nothing is set in stone currently, it’s unclear how both Reliance and Facebook are going to leverage WhatsApp to build a super app. Will it be a different app from WhatsApp or will more functionalities be added to the instant messaging app isn’t known currently. The report also notes that due to the ongoing health crisis around various parts of the world, the discussions are a bit delayed. However, we’ll keep an eye out for developments in this area for you.

Apple iPhone SE 2020 vs OnePlus 8 vs Realme X50 Pro: Specifications and prices compared

Apple finally launched a successor to the iPhone SE after nearly four years in the form of a revamped iPhone 8. Apple iPhone SE 2020, as the name suggests is the company’s budget smartphone for this year and comes just a day after OnePlus unveiled its flagship OnePlus 8 series globally on April 14. While the iPhone SE 2020 is priced starting from Rs 42,500 in India, OnePlus is yet to reveal the prices and has left it in the air for the time being as the country is under a total lockdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak. For the same reasons, Apple hasn’t revealed as to when the latest iPhone SE will go on sale in India.

The iPhone SE 2020 is a mix of features from the iPhone 8 and the company’s latest flagship, the iPhone 11 Pro, while the OnePlus 8 represents the best of the Android world, packed with the latest Qualcomm chipset with 5G support and fluid OxygenOS to boot. In India, Realme got the first movers by releasing the first 5G phone, X50 Pro in the country, even though the network hasn’t been deployed yet. Nevertheless, it exists and is a part of this comparison.

Here’s how the iPhone SE 2020 stands against OnePlus 8 and Realme X50 Pro.

Design and Display

Apple iPhone SE 2020 has a glass-aluminium build and is 7.3mm at its thickest point, weighing in at 148 grams. It is IP67 certified which makes it resistant to dust and water. OnePlus 8 has a metal-glass sandwich design that’s more in trend these days and is 8mm thick, weighing in at 180 grams. It’s IP68 rated and can withstand dust and water ingress. The Realme X50 Pro also has a metal-glass build but has a larger footprint measuring 8.9mm is the heaviest of the lot at 205 grams.

The iPhone SE 2020 features a 4.7-inch HD+ (1334 x 720 pixels) resolution Retina display with bezels on four sides. The screen supports a wide DCI-P3 colour gamut range and True Tone display features as well.

OnePlus 8 features a 6.55-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout. The screen is certified for HDR10+ playback and has an in-display fingerprint sensor. Realme X50 Pro features a 6.44-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support.

Out of the three phones, OnePlus 8 has the biggest display while the iPhone SE 2020 is more compact, lightweight and likely more durable.

Under the hood

Apple iPhone SE 2020 is powered by the latest A13 Bionic chip that’s miles ahead of any chipset as the company is known to optimize its phone in such a manner that efficiency takes the front pedal. Having said that, OnePlus is also known, amongst Android users, as the company that provides the best vanilla experience with its phones and the latest OnePlus 8 is powered by top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chip with 5G support baked in.

Apple uses the same chip with the SE 2020 as on its current crop of flagship phones, the iPhone 11 Pro. So the general performance is expected to be smooth and playing games like PUBG Mobile shouldn’t be an issue at all. The phone has 3GB of RAM and is offered in three storage variants-- 64GB/128GB/256GB. It runs on iOS13 and will most likely be upgradeable to iOS14 when it’s out and about.

OnePlus 8 and Realme X50 Pro are both powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset and come with 5G support paired with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage options to choose from. OnePlus 8 runs on OxygenOS 10 while the Realme X50 Pro runs on RealmeUI 1.0 that’s based on Android 10.

The general performance of Android and iOS differs by leaps and bounds which is why as a system such as the former requires more memory to function smoothly whereas Apple optimizes its iOS in a way that it’s powerful but efficient as well.

Coming to the cameras, the iPhone SE 2020 has a single 12MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and supports OIS. The camera is capable of recording in 4K UHD at upto 60fps and slow-motion video at upto 240fps. On the front, there’s a 7MP selfie camera that can record 1080p videos at 30fps supported by EIS.

OnePlus 8 has a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 48MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front, there’s a 16MP camera housed within the punch-hole notch cutout. The cameras can record videos in 4K UHD at upto 60fps with support from OIS and EIS.

Realme X50 Pro comes with a quad-camera setup that consists of a primary 64MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a secondary 12MP telephoto lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. It can record videos in 4K at 30fps and has support for EIS.

All three phones come with the basic set of connectivity features including WiFi 6, Bluetooth, Lightning connector with iPhone and Type-C with OnePlus 8 and X50 Pro.

Battery

Apple iPhone comes with the same battery as previously on the iPhone 8 and while the company isn’t known to reveal the specifications, it says that you can watch 13 hours of videos on a single charge. The phone supports wireless charging as well as 18W fast wired charging. The iPhone SE 2020 is also compatible with all Qi-certified chargers.

OnePlus 8 has a 4,300mAh battery that supports the 30W fast charging courtesy of Warp Charge solution. The X50 Pro has a 4,200mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging that lets the phone go from 0-100% in 35 minutes tops.

Crysis Remastered leaked its confirmed, Crysis Remastered is coming, probably later this year

Crysis Remastered was confirmed, or rather leaked via Twitter, through the official website's cookie policy page no less.

"Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE's native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch." oooops ;) pic.twitter.com/4EVNOHzLzb

— lashman (@RobotBrush) April 16, 2020

A short description of the game, which has now been scrapped from the site, was captured by Twitter user @RobotBrush:

"Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE's native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch."

Crysis Remastered

The visual above was also part of the same leak. You will notice, both in the short descript and the visual, that Crysis Remastered is supposedly coming to PC, PS4, XBOX One, and the Nintendo Switch. That's Crysis, on a Nintendo Switch. We're a bit curious to see how a PC GPU killer will fare on the Nintendo Switch.

We can most likely expect an official reveal soon, which will hopefully give us a more specific time for the game's release.

Tata Sky Unlimited Broadband Plans Will Now Come with an FUP limit

If you are a Tata Sky Broadband user, then there is some good news for you. There is now a FUP on the unlimited broadband plans. The FUP per month for the Tata Sky unlimited broadband plans is set to 1500GB. That's a lot! After the FUP, the speed will fall to 2Mbps. Tata Sky Broadband has its Unlimited plans broken up into monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly plans. Let's look at the plans a little closely.

On a monthly basis, users have access to pay Rs 900, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,100 all of which offer unlimited data. The speeds for the three plans are 25Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps respectively.

Moving over to the quarterly plans (3 months) users have access to pay Rs 2,700, Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,300 all of which offer unlimited data. The speeds for the three plans are 25Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps respectively.

For the half-yearly plans, users have to pay Rs 4,860, Rs 5,400 and Rs 5,940 all of which offer unlimited data. The speeds for the three plans are 25Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps respectively.

For the yearly plans, users have to pay Rs 9,180, Rs 10,200 and Rs 11,220 all of which offer unlimited data. The speeds for the three plans are 25Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps respectively.

All the prices are excluding GST, so you may want to add 18% to know the actual price you will pay.

If 1500GB is way too much for your monthly consumption, Tata Sky Broadband has a bunch of plans with limited data as well. You can check them out here.

If you are confused as to which is the right plan for you, then there is an easy way to choose the plan with the right speed. If you have multiple devices, but none of them perform heavy downloads and only consume content online, then the 25Mbps plan should be enough. However, if you have a 4K HDR TV and would like to consume content in 4K and HDR through service providers like Netflix, then you may want to consider the 50Mbps plan as Netflix itself recommends 24Mbps to enjoy content in HDR. However, if you are looking to download and upload heavy files for work or games on your PC, PS4, or Xbox One, then more than FUP, you need speed. And that's when you should consider the 100Mbps or faster connection.
