Microsoft Notepad back on the Store with new features

Microsoft’s Notepad has been a ubiquitous part of the Windows operating system for decades; three decades to be more precise. It was a simple, straightforward app that let you write and edit plain text documents and even work on source codes. While the app did make a comeback on the Windows Store back in August last year, it was quickly pulled. First spotted by betanews.com, the app is now back on the Store and offers a host of new features.

As per the report, the new app features wrap-around find/replace option. This is said to allow it to remember previously entered values and the state of checkboxes and automatically populate the same the next time they find dialogue box is opened. Further, when a text is selected and the find dialogue box is opened, it will automatically populate the search field with the selected text.

It is also said to offer a text zooming feature that will also allow users to zoom into text. Users will be able to do that by heading to Menu and then selecting Zoom. It can also be done by using Ctrl+Plus or Ctrl+Minus to zoom in or out or use Ctrl+mouse wheel to do the same. Ctrl+0 restores the zoom level to default. Another notable feature is the ability to display line and column numbers when word-wrap is enabled.

In related news, Microsoft-owned Mojang finally released the RTX Beta update for Minecraft. The update is a part of a collaboration between Nvidia, Mojang and Microsoft and brings with it ray-tracing capabilities. As one might expect, the addition of ray-tracing adds a whole new dimension and realism to the game, one that you would not expect from a game where everything is a block. As one might expect, you would need at least an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 to run the game. To know more, click here.

Realme Narzo 10 series launch postponed as Indian government prohibits non-essential goods delivery

Realme Narzo 10 series launch in India has been postponed due to the lockdown restrictions in place to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. Previously, the Chinese smartphone maker was gearing up to launch the Narzo 10 and Narzo 10A in India on April 21 but the Indian government backtracked its order prohibiting e-commerce companies to deliver non-essential goods like smartphones, TV and laptops to consumers until the lockdown lifts on May 3.

Realme CEO Madhav Sheth took to Twitter to announce that the company won’t be debuting its latest line of smartphones under the Narzo series on April 21 in India. The launch remains suspended until the government eases the restrictions in place, allowing e-commerce companies to function normally.

Just minutes after the official order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on April 19, Xiaomi India had to suspend its decision to re-open its Mi India Store that was previously slated to accept orders starting from April 20.

Currently, consumer electronics products including mobile phones, laptops, TV, appliances and more are not categorized as essential goods by the Indian government and e-commerce companies are only allowed to deliver products listed as essentials by the government.

The company has previously teased the design of the phone that aims to replicate the success of the LG Chocolate feature phone. As per the latest rumours, the Velvet could launch on May 13.

LG’s Korean YouTube channel posted a video that lays bare the Velvet in all its entirety. We get a look at the slim profile of the phone with a raindrop camera design, 3D Arc design, waterdrop notch on the front and by the end of the video it’s also confirmed that the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset with 5G support.

We also get a look at the four colour options-- green, red, black and white and going by the pictures, the red gradient colour option looks the most lively while the other three colours are more elegant looking.

The video also confirms that the Velvet comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, something LG’s known to retain on its smartphones even when the whole industry seems to move away from it. The phone is also fitted with stereo speakers and the USB Type-C port is located at the bottom. Interestingly, the SIM card slot is situated on the top edge.

LG Velvet is also confirmed to be powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset bringing in 5G support and performance updates over the Snapdragon 730 series chip. Googles smart debit card leaks online, new code in Chrome confirms existence

Google is reportedly working on a smart debit card dubbed Google Card as its potential Apple Card competitor. The card will let users make purchases from their smartphone and online with features like balance check, generate statements and more. Google is collaborating with different banks including Citi and Stanford Federal Credit Union for co-branding and issuing physical cards.

According to leaked pictures shared by TechCrunch, Google Card is aimed at streamlining Google Pay app by expanding its use case beyond peer-to-peer payments. Moreover, 9to5Google reported finding new lines of codes added to Chrome that confirm the existence of Google-issued card.

While the design of the card and the app interface is still in development, we still get an idea where Google is going forward with its smart debit card. The chip-based card will have the customer’s name, the bank’s branding and a QR code. By connecting it to a Google app, users will be able to transfer or pay from their smartphones by using fingerprints or pin of the phone.

The report also suggests that the card will support contactless payment in retail stores once it's connected to the customer’s bank account. Additionally, users can also use the app to pay via Bluetooth as the virtual card details are stores on the phone securely.

Other transaction data including detailed history is available on the app for customers to view, with the option of protecting the card by re-setting the number or locking it out entirely. There is a lot of security and privacy settings offered by the app to monitor the data shared but nothing is set in stone right now.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Google says that it is exploring ways to offer smart checking of bank accounts via Google Pay platform while providing insights and “budgeting tools”.

Google’s Card will rival Apple’s titanium-clad Goldman Sachs-backed credit card that currently accounts for 5% of global transactions done by cards. While Google missed out on the first-mover advantage, it’s currently not known when the Google Card will see the light of the day.

GTA 6 could be in early development at Rockstar Games squashing rumours of a 2020 release

GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto) could be in the early stages of development at Rockstar Games and won’t be hitting shelves anytime soon. The latest report by Kotaku suggests that while the studio’s next title will take the Grand Theft Auto series forward, it’s still in early developments squashing all rumours about the release of GTA 6 later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and more.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier recently spoke to a bunch of developers at Rockstar Games and states in his report that the studio aims to push a “moderately sized release” of GTA 6 and then expand it with regular updates. Schreier’s report about how the company is dealing with the fallout of widespread criticism that ensued when the company’s work culture was put in the spotlight with developers having to follow an “extensive overtime” lifestyle, is the basis of why the studio is looking to launch the GTA 6 in this way as it would help ensure there’s no crunch.

The company is looking to improve it’s technological prowess and making plans accordingly to reduce crunch.

The successor to GTA V one of the most iconic games of all times that made over 1 Billion dollars in the first 72 hours of its release, is much-anticipated from a while now with tons of purported leaks and rumours surrounding the game’s development popping up on the Internet regularly. But this latest report puts all those speculations to rest suggesting that the GTA 6 is still ways off from launch.

Having said that, we wouldn’t be surprised if we get the first look of GTA 6 sometime in 2021 or 2022, based on whether the studios have started working on the project.

With PS5 and Xbox Series X set to launch later this year, the gaming ecosystem is eyeing a great boost in adoption, especially now, when people are being forced to stay at home to curb the spread of Coronavirus disease. As such many events like Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2020, E3 2020 and Gamescom have either been moved online or completely scraped off from this year’s schedule.

Anyhow, we’ll keep an eye out on developments regarding GTA 6 and in the meanwhile, you can check out our list of the best PS4 games.

Instagram founders team up to launch a COVID-19 tracker Rtlive

Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger has reunited to launch a COVID-19 tracker called Rt.live. They have teamed up for the first time since leaving Facebook after the Instagram was acquired by Mark Zuckerberg’s company. Rt.live shows how fast the Novel Coronavirus is spreading in the United States.

The name ‘Rt’ is the unit that measures the average number of people who can get infected by an infectious person. The higher the number, the faster COVID-19 spreads among the population. A number below one shows the virus is receding and the infection rate is going down.

At present, the Rt.live shows data from the United States only. The site shows Georgia on top with a high Rt score of 1.5 while New York’s Rt score has come down to 0.54, according to TechCrunch.

The tracker’s idea came when Kreiger found out Kevin has been writing and publishing open-source data on how to calculate Rt on a daily basis. They teamed up to work and visualise the data so anyone can see how US states are doing at keeping the COVID-19 pandemic at bay.

The site shows charts and tables of infection data and assigns a Rt score to each state in the United States. The data is sourced from the COVID Tracking Project while Rt.live’s modeling system is available on GitHub. You can filter out states to see how a certain region of the country is doing as compared to the other, and also see the impact of states that have imposed stay-at-home orders versus states that have not.

The Instagram founders are also doing more individually to help US businesses stay afloat after stay-at-home orders in multiple states. The founders of the popular social networking app hopes the app serves as a dashboard for the authorities to decide when to ease lockdown orders. In India, COVID-19 cases officially touched 15,000 cases while the death toll cross 500.
