Huawei caught trying to pass DSLR images as shot on Huawei smartphones

Huawei, it seems, just can’t find itself in some positive news cycles lately. The latest news from China’s biggest technology company happens to be a clear case of “not learning from your mistakes.” Huawei had recently announced a photography competition for which they put out a promo video. This video contained a slideshow of images, with a “taken with Huawei smartphones” label running throughout the presentation, the only problem is, some of those images weren’t shot with a Huawei smartphone!

Originally caught by Jami Hua, aka Huapeng Zhao, Hua noted that one of the images that plays in the video was not actually shot on any smartphone at all. Stating that the image looked familiar, he poured over images from popular image hosting site 500px, and sure enough, discovered that his hunch had been right. The image titled “Like a Diamond” was shot on a Nikon D850 and uploaded to 500px by user Su Tie. The video featured another one of Su Tie’s DSLR shot photos.

Huawei has issued an apology on Weibo, stating that an oversight on the part of the editor led to the images being erroneously used and marked as “ shot on Huawei smartphone.” Since then, the company has also updated the original video, leaving the images in question right where they were, but has instead removed the text label claiming that the images in the video were shot on a Huawei smartphone. Huawei has also clarified that their content allows contestants to submit photographs shot on any device.

This, unfortunately, is not the first time Huawei has been caught faking a camera shot using a DSLR. Last year, just before the launch of the Huawei P30 Pro, one of the promos that went out used imagery created using DSLRs, but the copy insinuated that they were shot on the P30 Pro. At the time, Huawei brushed the issue aside by saying that nowhere did they claim that the images had been shot on a P30 Pro, and that their intent was to only establish what users could expect from the upcoming device. Prior to that, Huawei was also caught faking the selfie camera capabilities of the Nova 3i, when the model herself posted a behind the scenes photo showing all the professional equipment used to actually create the promo image. Again, at no point did Huawei actually claim that the selfie shown in the promos was taken using their smartphone, but the implied nature of the creative campaign left very little room for interpretation.

Huawei’s smartphones tend to sport some of the best camera stacks in the industry, so for them to continuously rely on DSLR-shot imagery in the promotions of their devices just makes no sense. Thankfully, we witnessed the recent launch of the Huawei P40 Pro without any controversy regarding the use of DSLR images in promotions.

PUBG Mobile v0180 update: Miramar 20, canter sights and more coming soon

PUBG Mobile is expected to drop its new 0.18.0 update sometime later this month and is tipped to introduce a bunch of new features as well as a new version of the Miramar map. Thankfully, the beta version of the game has given us a better idea of what we can expect from the update. Notable YouTuber, Mr. Ghost Gaming has listed out some of the new features that one can expect and we checked them out ourselves.

Miramar 2.0

The big new feature of the update is Miramar 2.0. The new map is pretty similar to the old one, with a couple of new additions. First off, you get a new vehicle in the form of a Golden Mirado. This vehicle is a golden version of the muscle car that usually spawns in the map and is quite fast. The golden version of the car spawns in the Hacienda and besides adding a dash of bling, it does not seem to offer anything more.

Another new feature that has been added to the map is sand storms. These storms are visible on your map, and entering the location lowers you visibility. But aside from that, I did not see any other effects. The map also gets a new version of the Win94 rifle. This time around, the rifle gets a pre-attached scope. Just like the VSS, the scope is a part of the weapon itself and cannot be detached. The new weapon only spawns in the new Miramar map but can be checked out in the training map.

New side scope

Almost all weapons will now feature a new side scope option, letting you add a secondary scope to it. This scope is basically a red dot scope and can be paired with any other scope. Players can then toggle between both the scopes on the fly. This lets you move from a long-range scope to a short-range scope, without the need to switch between two weapons. This can come in handy for snipers when an enemy gets too close for comfort.

Safety Scramble/Bluehole

This is a new mode that is a part of EvoGround and features a Blue circle inside the safe zone. Entering this zone damages the player, but it is also where the next circle will be. In essence, it reduces the play area in any given match, which should increase the chances of coming across enemies.

Cheer Park

The Cheer Park is a new addition to the game and gives players a relatively safe location to try out rides and contests in peace without worrying about other players.

PUBG Mobile recently added a new mode called Arctic Mode. This mode pits you against the elements as well as other players. To know more about Arctic Mode, click here. To get some basic tips and strategies, you can check this out as well.

Realme X3 TENAA listing reveals key specifications along with design

A Realme phone bearing the code RMX2142 has appeared on the Chinese telecommunications certification agency TENAA’s website. The listing reveals key specifications of the upcoming Realme phone and gives us our first look at the phone’s design.

RMX2142 is rumoured to be the successor to the Realme X2 in the form of Realme X3. Recently, the Realme X3 SuperZoom was also spotted on NBTC and BIS certification websites of Thailand and India respectively.

Let’s take a brief look at the leaked specifications of the Realme X3.

Realme X3 leaked specifications

Realme X3 is expected to feature a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with a dual punch-hole notch that houses two selfie cameras on the front. The phone could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset clocked at 2.4GHz and paired with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage options to choose from. It runs on Android 10 based Realme UI out-of-the-box.

On the back, there is a quad-camera array that consists of a primary 48MP camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and two 2MP cameras that could possibly be a macro and a depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP primary front-facing camera and a 2MP depth camera housed within the punch-hole cutouts.

There’s a fingerprint sensor on the side that also doubles up as the power button. The phone is expected to come in two colours, white and blue. It is fitted with a 4,100mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.

It is also speculated that the company is working on Realme X3 SuperZoom that could launch alongside the regular Realme X3. Meanwhile, Realme and other smartphone manufacturers have to wait out the nation-wide lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of Coronavirus in India. To that effect, e-commerce companies aren’t allowed to supply non-essential goods yet which is why most launches have been postponed to sometime after the lockdown ends.

20 million Aptoide app store users data leaked

The Google Play Store may be the official Android app store but that doesn't mean it is the only one. There are a number of app stores available for Android where users can get access to a bunch of apps. One of the most popular Android app stores is the Aptoide app store. It is popular on a lot of budget Android TVs in India as well. If you have registered with the Aptoid app store service, then there is some bad news for you. According to ZDNet, 20 million Aptoide app store users' data has been leaked on a hacking forum. The hackers claim to have information about 39 million Aptoide users. According to the source, the hackers have information on users who registered or used the Aptoide app store app between July 21, 2016, and January 28, 2018.

The hackers of the Aptoide app store have access to user information like email address, hashed password, real name, sign-up date, sign-up IP address, device details, and date of birth (if provided). ZDNet goes on to say, “Other details also include technical information such as account status, sign-up tokens, developer tokens, if the account was a super admin, or referral origin.”

Aptoide has released a statement in relation to the leaked data. The app store says that 97% of Aptoide users have never signed up. So their data is safe. 32 million Aptoide users have signed in via their Gmail or Facebook account. For them, their password was not a part of the database. Aptoid claims to have 150 million users.

The Aptoide statement reads, “Since you are not required to create an account at Aptoide to use it, 97% of Aptoide users have never signed up. In that case, you are not impacted at all. There is no information on the databases for the users that didn't sign up. In case you are in the 3% of the users that have created an account to make a comment or a review, your email address will be in the database, as well as the IP and user agent of the last login. The table has a birthday field and name but was not filled out when you signed up through the Android application. Only if you signed up through the web site to access dashboards. If you are one of the 8.8M users that signed up using your email address, your password is kept encrypted using the SHA-1 cypher in the database. Although the attack on SHA-1 is possible, it takes a long time to do it in a pure brute force attack. However, you should not consider your password secure. If you used a dictionary word or an easy password, your password may be reversed. If you use a shared password with other sites, you should change the password in those sites as well”. You can read Aptoide’s complete statement in a Q&A format here.

If you have entered your credit card information or phone number, then worry not. Aptoide says they never stored any credit card, payment information, social security, or phone numbers in the database. If you would like to remove your account from the Aptoid App store, you can do so by sending an email to support@aptoide.com.
