Telegram working on secure group video calls to take on Zoom

Secure instant messaging app Telegram is working on a group video call feature to take on the likes of Zoom, Google Meet and Skype. Telegram told IANS the feature will announced later this year.

“Video calls in 2020 are much like messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either secure or usable, but not both. We’d like to fix that,” Telegram told in a statement indicating that the company could extend the good name it earned for secure chats over to video calling as well.

Having said that, Telegram is yet to show users a glimpse of what is has in store. Without releasing a beta build of the video calling feature, the statement simply comes off as a rant against Zoom which is being pulled up by authorities and users around the world for alleged privacy breaches.

The announcement came as Telegram celebrated 400 million active users around the world. The company gained this many users in just seven years, having opened shop in 2013.

“Telegram has reached 400,000,000 monthly users, up from 300 million a year ago. Every day at least 1.5 million new users sign up for Telegram. Features like folders, cloud storage, and desktop support make Telegram ideal for remote work and study during the quarantine,” the company said in a statement.

Telegram also introduced a new Discussion Button last month that would allow users access a separate group chat extension even chatting is restricted on those channels. The feature allows admins to implement a new chat section for a particular channel.

Xiaomi to rebrand Redmi K30 Pro as POCO F2 Pro after all

Poco F2 Pro could be a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition but sadly not for the Indian market, it seems. Xiaomi announced the Redmi K30 Pro alongside the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition on March 24 at an event in China. The phones are successors to last year’s Redmi K20 Pro and come with the latest hardware in tow.

Google Play Services recently updated its list of supported devices that was first spotted by the folks over at XDA. The listing reveals Xiaomi’s plans to launch the Redmi K30 Pro as Poco F2 Pro in regions outside of China. However, the report also tries to connect the dots by decoding the model numbers corresponding to the entries.

The Redmi K30 Pro goes by the model number “lmi” and in two out of the three listings the K30 Pro seems to be rebranded as the Poco F2 Pro. Another entry that goes by “lmiinpro” has the words “in” which is the country code for India but could be marketed as the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition and not Poco F2 Pro.

As to why Xiaomi won’t bring the rebranded version of Redmi K30 Pro in India as the Poco F2 Pro isn’t known at the moment. However, C Manmohan, Poco India GM has previously stated that the company isn’t looking to rebrand an existing phone as the Poco F2 and squashed any rumours suggesting the Redmi K30 Pro be released as Poco F2 in India.

Having said that, the latest piece of information coming from the listing does indicate that India will be getting the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition.

Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition specifications

Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that uses an AMOLED panel coated by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. The display doesn’t have a notch cut out for front-facing camera as it utilizes the pop-up camera mechanism.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G support and an octa-core CPU running on Android 10-based MIUI 11. This is paired with upto 12GB RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage options to choose from.

The Redmi K30 Pro Zoom has a quad-camera setup that consists of a primary 64MP sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The rear camera setup can record upto 8K UHD videos at upto 30fps and 4K UHD clips at upto 60fps supported by EIS and OIS.

For the front-facing camera, the phone makes use of a pop-up mechanism that houses a 20MP selfie camera.

The phone has stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and in-display optical fingerprint sensor for faster unlock.

It packs in a 4,700mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging out-of-the-box that the company claims can go from 0-100% in just around an hour.

PUBG Mobile: How to use drones to get your own flying car

Glitches and bugs have been a part of gaming since the beginning. While developers do their level best to ensure that the final version of the game is free from glitches or bugs, gamers tend to work in the opposite direction in order to find as many bugs and glitches as possible. Some do it just for laughs, while others do it to gain a tactical advantage. Sometimes, it is possible that you may get both, especially when you get a way to make a car fly.

PUBG Mobile players have managed to figure out a way to make vehicles fly using the new drone that was added in the new Arctic Mode. As you may know, the new mode lets players take control of drones that can be used to scout for enemies. However, some enterprising players have figured out how to use the drones to make vehicles fly.

By using three to four drones, and placing then inside or under the car, players figured out that it could be used to make the car fly. Ideally, players should use three drones as the fourth member of the squad can then take a ride and take potshots at enemies. Of course, coordination between the drone operators is quite important as otherwise, the vehicle may become unstable. Does it make any sense? Nope. Does it add any tactical advantage? Not really? Is it funny? Oh yeah.

Not quite sure if Tencent will patch this in an update or it will live on. Regardless, if you want, you can have your own flying car in PUBG Mobile. Just make sure you whistle the Harry Potter theme song when you’re playing about the map with your mates. Loads of players are already trying it out and we've posted one such example below.

If you haven't got a chance to check out the Arctic Mode, You should definitely check out our intro as well as a strategy guide for the new mode here.
