— OnePlus India (@OnePlus_IN) April 28, 2020

OnePlus seems to be registering pre-orders for its new range of mobile phones but due to the government’s regulation in place will not be able to deliver orders before the lockdown ends that’s in place due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The Indian government has also restricted e-commerce companies from delivering mobile phones or laptops and as such smartphone manufacturers have come to a standstill.

Since the lockdown has been in effect, OnePlus has announced its new series of smartphones alongside Apple iPhone SE 2020. There’s no word when the iPhone SE 2020 will go on sale but until the government allows e-commerce companies to deliver non-essential goods we’ll have to wait for the lockdown to lift.

OnePlus 8 series pricing and availability

OnePlus 8 starts at Rs 41,999 in India while the OnePlus 8 Pro starts at Rs 54,999 for the base variant. The OnePlus 8 comes in three variants-- 6GB RAM / 128GB storage at Rs 41,999, 8GB RAM / 128GB storage at Rs 44,999 and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage at Rs 49,999.

The maxed-out version also comes in an Interstellar Glow gradient finish alongside Glacial Green and Onyx Black.

OnePlus 8 Pro starts at Rs 54,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and Rs 59,999 for the top-end model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The maxed-out variant is also available in a third, Ultramarine Blue colour.

OnePlus has also released it’s new Bullets Wireless Z at Rs 1,999 but currently, it’s not known when these pair of earbuds will go on sale. Similarly, there is no information around the availability of the Warp Charge 30 wireless charging dock.

Having said that, we expect OnePlus to reveal more information around open sale dates and delivery schedules as it starts accepting pre-orders for OnePlus 8 series.

Fact Check: Jio and Facebook message promising 25GB free data is fake

A new message has been doing rounds saying Jio and Facebook are offering 25GB internet data for six months due to the Coronavirus outbreak. And while many wished that was true, it sadly isn’t the case as the message tricks you into downloading an apk file that isn’t verified and seems dubious at best.

Recently, Jio and Facebook entered a partnership that saw the social networking giant pool in 5.7 Billion dollars into Jio Platforms as both the companies now work towards enhancing the Indian retail sector by leveraging WhatsApp. To this effect, the JioMart service is being beta tested in some regions of Mumbai.

The message being circulated says, “GOOD NEWS! Jio and Facebook are giving 25GB Data Daily for 6 months to all Jio users due to lockdown of COVID-19. Download this app now” followed by a link to a website that tries to mimic Jio’s official website’s layout and colour scheme.

While the whole setup seems to be a scam, downloading any file or even clicking on the link you receive could put your private data at risk. So make sure if you get a message that offers you free data, don’t click on the link to avail the offer as it is not an official website.

The website has been built using the free version of Weebly, which is a webpage building service. Furthermore, if you click on the link in the website to download the app, an unauthorized app going by the name Prime-Offer is downloaded from a Box.com server. This app tries to mimic the MyJio app but it crashes most of the times which only confirms our suspicions.

So, if you receive any such message that claims to offer you free internet data, be sure not to click on the link and ignore it completely. Jio hasn’t released any free data offers due to the COVID-19 outbreak yet, however, the telecom industry has seen a change in terms of tariff plan offerings with Vodafone and BSNL tweaking their plans.

The news comes as WhatsApp put a limit on the number of forwards a person could send in a day so as to curb the spread of misinformation around Coronavirus in India. As a result, the company revealed that it has witnessed over 70% reduction in the number of message forwards on its platform than before.

New Call of Duty: Mobile Season to start in May, new Operator Skill, Battle Royale Class and grenade teased

Activision, the guys behind Call of Duty: Mobile have announced that the next season of the game will be made available in the latter half of May. While details like the name or theme of the update are not yet known, the developers have teased some of the new additions that one can expect in the new update. This would include a new Operator Skill, a new tactical grenade and a new class in Battle Royale.

The new Operator Skill teased is called Annihilator and appears to be a giant revolver that can kill enemies in one hit. The description reads,  “High material penetration ammo allows you to track nearby enemy and kill him without aiming at him.” Putting the grammatical aspect of the description aside, it seems like the skill will not only allow you to track enemies in your field of vision, but also kill them without physical aiming at them. Since the weapon will kill in one shot, expect this skill to be most effective against tight groups of enemies.

Call of Duty: Mobile is also set to get a new grenade for the first time since launch. Called the Cryo Grenade, the weapon slots into the tactical grenade section and as such is non-lethal. It’s description reads, “releases a surge of freezing air that slows the enemy.” As such, the grenade is best used in choke-points where enemies that tend to rush forward.

The final new addition that was teased was a new class calls Poltergeist. This new class comes with the Active Camo ability that allows players to become nearly invisible for a short while. It also comes with the Voidwalker ability that increases running and walking speed while in stealth mode. The teaser video suggests that when the player is in stealth mode, he/she becomes quite difficult to see. However, eagle-eyed players may be able to spot them. Further, it should be noted that while the player may be difficult to spot, players can still hear footsteps. In fact, if a player with stealth mode activated does come close to another player, the other player may get alerted to their presence via the footsteps that appear on the map. It is not yet known if the player will be visible by the Scout class when using the Sensor Dart ability or when using the thermal scope on the Exotic Arctic 50 sniper rifle. Further, the camouflage will be cancelled the moment the player fires their weapon.

OxygenOS open beta based on Android 10 released for OnePlus 5 and 5T

OnePlus has released the first OxygenOS open beta for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T after revealing last year that both these mobile phones will be the last in line to receive updates to Android 10. This is in line with the company’s update roadmap as it promised the Android 10 OxygenOS update to OnePlus 5 and 5T by the second quarter of 2020.

Over at the OnePlus Community forums, Manu J, Global Product Operations Manager at OnePlus revealed that the company is releasing an early build of the OxygenOS version 10.0 to gather necessary feedback before a wider public rollout. Do note, however, that the update isn’t being released via OTA and users who need to try the latest OxygenOS on their OnePlus 5 or 5T will have to download the package from official OnePlus website.

If you’re trying a beta build of the OxygenOS for the first time, remember to back up all of your data as the update will reset your smartphone to factory settings, purging all your private data.

The new OxygenOS 10.0 update brings an all-new design that’s fast and smooth in general use along with all the Android 10 features and tools. The new update comes with more advanced customization settings, smart Ambient display, privacy manager, game space, Wi-Fi share, new notifications settings and more.

OnePlus 5 and 5T debuted in 2017 running Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and are the last two devices in OnePlus’ catalogue set to receive an update to Android 10.

Even though the update is still in beta if you want to try and see how Android 10 looks on your OnePlus 5 or 5T, here’s how to update it.

Download the respective update package - for OnePlus 5 | for OnePlus 5T

Go to File Manager, tap Downloads and move the update package to the root directory.

Go to Settings, tap on System and select System Updates.

Tap on the three-dot inline menu option and choose Local upgrade.

Select the downloaded package from the root directory and you’re good to go.

Do keep in mind that the update is still in beta and therefore could have a bunch of issues as it’s not a stable ROM.
