Vodafone Idea offering 14GB data and unlimited calls for 7days to users amidst lockdown

Vodafone Idea is reportedly offering free data and calls to users amidst the Coronavirus lockdown. The telecom operator is crediting user accounts with 2GB data per day for seven days along with unlimited calling facility. The company recently announced new double data tariff plans for many regions as more and more people work from home due to the nation-wide lockdown that’s in effect till May 3.

Vodafone users took to Twitter with screenshots showing that the telecom operator has credited 2GB data per day for the next seven days to “overcome lockdown blues”. The text message also suggests users watch videos and make calls using this free complimentary data.

The company’s free data offer is an additional top-up over your existing tariff plans and doesn’t remove your primary pack. Currently, it seems like users are being chosen randomly for this free data pack and there’s no known way of availing this offer by a user.

Some users have suggested dialling the Top Offers number of Vodafone which is 121363, however, the call doesn’t connect to the IVR system when we tried it.

This move by Vodafone comes after Reliance Jio started offering 2GB complimentary data to its users whose tariff plans are lapsing by the end of the month. The company has previously offered the same Jio Data Pack to users at the end of March.

Vodafone recently announced double data on some of its pre-paid tariff plans with up to 4GB data. The plans are only available in nine regions including Delhi, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. The telco now has five plans that offer double data including plans priced Rs 299, Rs 399, Rs 449, Rs 599 and Rs 699. The plans also come with a subscription to Zee5, unlimited calls and more.

BSNL scraps Amazon Prime subscription offer for its postpaid and broadband users

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), the state-run telecom operator has discontinued the Amazon Prime subscription offer that was complimentary with some of its post-paid and broadband plans. BSNL released this offer back in 2018 and provided a year’s worth of Amazon Prime subscription.

The telecom operator’s Kerala circle announced on its website that the Amazon Prime subscription offered with broadband tariff plans over Rs 750 is no longer available. In response to a user’s tweet, the BSNL Kerala account replied that “The Amazon Prime one year subscription promotional offer is discontinued till further notice.”

What is BSNL Amazon Prime subscription offer?

BSNL started offering it’s post-paid and broadband customers with an annual subscription of Amazon Prime without incurring any extra charges. Post-paid users who subscribed to tariff vouchers of more than Rs 399 and broadband plans of Rs 750 were eligible to avail the benefits of the complimentary offer.

In 2019, the telecom operator also started offering the Prime membership to BSNL Bharat Fiber users who are on Rs 777 tariff plan and above.

While BSNL has discontinued its complimentary offer for annual Amazon Prime subscription, a spokesperson told NDTV Gadgets360 that the telecom operator is looking to renew the licensing contracts suggesting that the offer may be revived soon.

Naturally, many existing and new subscribers weren’t able to activate their free Amazon Prime subscription and took to Twitter to lodge their complaints, only for the company to reveal that the offer has been scrapped off until further notice.

Having said that, the BSNL Amazon prime subscription offer could be back very soon as hinted by the company spokesperson.

BSNL recently announced that it is extending its work from home broadband plan availability till May 19, 2020. The plan offers new and existing customers 5GB data per day at 10Mbps.

Apple iPhone 12 series pricing leaks, shows no 5G premium

Rumours and speculations around the upcoming iPhone 12 are getting more and more rampant. We’ve had rumours around specifications, model types and now, there’s a notable leak around the pricing of the upcoming iPhone 12 models. The leak comes via tipster Jon Prosser who had also leaked the April 15 date for the iPhone SE launch. According to Prosser, there will be four 5G models of the iPhone 12 and they are going to be priced rather aggressively.

The first of these is said to be the Apple iPhone 12, a budget iPhone with an OLED panel. The smartphone will sport a dual-camera setup on the back, while also sporting the company’s newest SoC. While the name still remains unconfirmed, this device with its 5.4-inch display will be the most budget-friendly device, with a price tag starting at $649.

The next model up in the ladder would be the Apple iPhone 12 Plus/Max, a device whose name is not yet confirmed. This device will sport a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a smaller notch in comparison to the iPhone 11 Pro. The phone is expected to come with dual cameras on the back, sport the A14 Bionic SoC along with 5G capabilities. This particular, larger iPhone will start at a retail price of $749.

The two other models in the 5G lineup are the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max, both of which are rumoured to sport a triple camera setup along with a LiDAR sensor like the one found on the recently launched iPad Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro is expected to sport a 6.1-inch OLED panel while the iPhone 12 Pro Max will retain the 6.7-inch OLED display. Both the phones are expected to have displays capable of 120Hz refresh rate as well. The iPhone 12 Pro is expected to have the price tag of $999 while the larger smartphone is said to be priced at $1099.

If the above pricing does end up holding true, this would be the first time Apple would sell an OLED-equipped iPhone for under $999. This would also be the first time Apple would create a second version of the non-Pro based iPhone. Currently, the iPhone 11 series consists of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 series, according to Prosser, seems to also add an iPhone 12 Max/Plus, a first.

Apple is expected to host its iPhone event in September like always, but the event may be moved by a few days or weeks due to the current COVID-19 situation. Additionally, given that we’re still many months away from the actual launch, a lot can change between now and then. A few weeks ago, Ming-Chi Kuo had noted that there would be a delay in the launch of the 5G variant of the iPhone 12 due to delays in the testing of the 5G modem.
