Tom Cruise partners with SpaceX and NASA to shoot a film in outer space

Tom Cruise is one of the world’s biggest movie stars and has, over the years, delivered a number of hits. But the actor is now looking at an even more ambitious project that will see Cruise actually film a movie in outer space. Yes, you heard that right. Tom Cruise has just negotiated a deal with NASA to set his new film on the International Space Station. A tweet from NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine also confirmed the outrageous news.

NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality. pic.twitter.com/CaPwfXtfUv

First reported by Variety, Cruise has just partnered with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and was actually looking at filming his next action-adventure in outer space. If this does happen, it will be the first time in history that a major feature film will be filmed in the cold emptiness of space. Details of the project are still kept tightly under wraps but one thing we do know is that the film will not be a part of the Mission: Impossible series. The actor is known for his daredevil attitude and insistence in performing his own stunts. Remember that Burj Khalifa sequence? Yeah, that was all Tom Cruise and not some stuntman. The guy is 57 years old and still a machine.

In the meantime, we can all look forward to Tom Cruise’s next blockbuster which will be Top Gun: Maverick. Cruise will once again put on the bomber jacket of Captain Pete Mitchell in the sequel to the 80’s mega-hit.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 leak suggests 5nm process, X60 modem, Adreno 660 GPU and more

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 865 flagship SoC has barely entered the market and now it looks like the specs of its successor have already been leaked. 91mobiles claims to have gotten an email from a reader that is said to detail the specifications of the upcoming chipset. The report by the website claims that the chipset will have the codename SM8350 and will be based on the 5nm process, and maybe manufactured by TSMC.

Specifications of the Snapdragon 875, according to the leak: Kryo 685 CPU built on Arm v8 Cortex tech 3G/ 4G/ 5G modem –Millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-6 GHz bands Adreno 660 GPU Adreno 665 VPU Adreno 1095 DPU Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit (SPU250) Spectra 580 image-processing engine Snapdragon Sensors Core Technology External 802.11ax, 2×2 MIMO, and Bluetooth Milan Compute Hexagon DSP with Hexagon Vector eXtensions and Hexagon Tensor Accelerator Quad-channel package-on-package (PoP) high-speed LPDDR5 SDRAM Low-power audio subsystem combined with Aqstic Audio Technologies WCD9380 and WCD9385 audio codec

The report also notes that the Snapdragon 875 will pack the new X60 5G modem, but isn’t sure if it will be integrated into the SoC, or will be an option. Further, if it is fabricated using the 5nm process, one can expect significant performance improvements as well as energy efficiency. As for the launch date, Qualcomm usually unveils its chips sometime in December, so one can expect it to be unveiled during that time. However, with the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, the launch might be pushed to sometime in early 2021.  Of course, as with any leaks, its best it takes all this with a pinch of salt till the company makes a formal announcement.

Amazons online third person shooter game Crucible finally has a release date

Amazon’s online third-person free-to-play shooter game, Crucible, finally has a release date. In a new trailer, the game modes along with the release date have been revealed. Crucible will release on May 20 for the PC only. There is no information on whether the game will come to the home consoles. The game is a third-person online shooter and as per the new trailer revealed, players will be able to engage in three modes - Heart of the Hives, Alpha Hunters, and Harvester Command. Players' abilities and skills are also upgraded throughout the game. Let's look at the gameplay modes in detail.

Heart of the Hives - This is an interesting take on Team Deathmatch. Players are divided into two teams and must battle each other, but there is a third party involved as well - AI-controlled alien fauna. The two teams must battle each other and the alien fauna in a race to claim three alien hearts. The first to get the three wins.

Alpha Hunters - In Alpha Hunters, eight teams of two players each are pitted against each other. The last team standing wins. It sounds like it will be quite chaotic.

Harvester Command - This is the Crucible’s own take on 'capturing the flag', sort off. Two teams compete for a shared resource. The first team to deplete the other’s resources wins.

From the above, it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the game and the modes it brings. Now we need to wait and see it in action.

The online competitive shooting space is dominated by classics like Counter-Strike and evergreen games like Call of Duty. We also saw a surprise hit in a game like Apex Legends, so it will be interesting to see how Crucible performs, especially since it is a free-to-play game, just like Apex legends.
