PlayStation 4 Sales Reach 110.4 Million, PlayStation 5 Still on Track; Sony Confirms

Sony has released its sales numbers for fiscal year 2019 and even though it has reported lower numbers compared to last year, the PlayStation 5 console is still on track.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remaster Announced

A live stream held by Geoff Keighley in association with Summer Game Fest has just announced a remastered version of one of the all-time PlayStation classics - Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. The live stream was held on Twitter’s Periscope TV revealing a trailer and an interview with the pro skater Tony Hawk and Jen Oneal from Vicarious Visions. You can check out the trailer here.

The reveal started out with a trailer showing some stunning close-up shots followed by a comparison of the previous generation graphics to the current next-gen. The game allows you to pick and choose your favourite skater from the roster which includes Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Bucky Lasek, Elissa Steamer, Kareem Campbell and more. The game will also include all the classic locations and soundtracks from the previous games.

The remastered game is being developed by Vicarious Visions who had previously remastered Crash Bandicoot for the PlayStation 4. And is being published by Activision. The game retains all the original levels, modes and tricks from their classic variants. It also has support for local split-screen multiplayer like the old days as well as an online multiplayer feature. The game also includes the create-a-park and create-a-player modes providing enough room for customization. The player can share their parks online and play on parks created by other players as well. Vicarious Visions has decided that there would not be any microtransactions during launch. Every unlockable item will be obtained only via gameplay rewards. But it is subject to change with time and demand.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is set to release on September 4, 2020. It will be available on Windows via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Sony HT-G700 31-Channel Soundbar with Dolby Atmos launched

Sony has added a new soundbar to its portfolio in the US and we expect it to be available in India as well soon. The soundbar is the HT-G700. It has the front three channels in the bar and also comes with a wireless subwoofer. We have seen the launch of the Sony HT-Z9F Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbar in India in 2019. It was also a 3.1 channel soundbar with the optional rear speakers to give users a surround sound effect. You can read our review of the Sony HT-Z9F here. Coming back to the HT-G700, it comes with Sony’s Vertical Surround Sound Engine which simulates a surround sound experience from the soundbar. 

The soundbar comes with a bunch of modes including Theater Mode, which as the name suggests tries to engulf you in the soundscape of the movie giving you a theatre-like experience. Then there is the Music mode which should cater to your music listening experience. There is also the Voice mode which according to Sony, “Whether it's the morning news or a season finale, this mode tailors sound settings to accentuate speech so you won't miss a word.” Lastly, there is also a night mode that ensures you can hear all the details at low volumes. 

Sony HT-G700 3.1 Soundbar Specifications

Moving over to the specifications, the soundbar has a power output of 400 W. For inputs, it has Optical-audio input, USB type A, Bluetooth Version 5, 1 HDMI output that supports eARC and 1 HDMI input for passthrough with support for 4K at 60Hz and Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos pass through. It does not support WiFi which is a bummer. The HT-Z9F had support for Wi-Fi.

Sony HT-G700 3.1 Soundbar Price

There is no information on when the soundbar will be available in India, but considering its US price of $600 which translates to Rs 45000 approx. directly converted, we think this will be quite premium priced for Indian consumers at the same price point. 

Sony currently has three Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbars it sells in India. One is the above mentioned HT-Z9F, the other is the HT-X8500 (read our review here) and the last one is the premium HT-ST5000.

Moto E7 and Motorola One Vision Plus spotted on Google Play console revealing key specifications

Motorola Moto E7 and One Vision Plus have been spotted in the Google Play Console listing, revealing key specifications of both the phones. The Moto E7 is an entry-level smartphone that is the successor to the Moto E6, while the One Vision Plus seems to be a slightly powerful version of the regular Motorola One Vision.

The Moto E7 listing was first spotted by Techieride while MySmartPrice first reported about the Motorola One Vision Plus listing. Let’s take a look at the leaked specifications of both the smartphones.

Moto E7 leaked specifications

According to the Google listing, Moto E7 could feature a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a 1520 x 720 pixels resolution. It could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. The phone has been listed to come with Android 10 out-of-the-box and knowing Motorola, it’s going to be a stock Android experience as usual.

The Moto E7 is a follow-up to both the Moto E6 and Moto E6s and is aimed at the entry-level segment of users. According to a render attached with the listing, the phone could have a waterdrop notch cutout on the front for the selfie camera with noticeable bezel on the bottom.

Motorola One Vision Plus leaked specifications

Motorola One Vision Plus is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution. It’s likely that the One Vision Plus is powered by a Samsung Exynos processor as the regular One Vision. The phone is expected to come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage as the base variant and other configuration options could also be revealed at the time of launch. 

The phone has a fingerprint sensor, possibly on the rear panel or an optical one embedded underneath the display. It is listed to run on Android 9 out-of-the-box but we wouldn’t be surprised if Motorola goes ahead and launches it with Android 10 directly.

More details will be revealed as Motorola announces the phones in the coming months.

Aarogya Setu app could be mandatory for air travel post-lockdown: Report

It looks like those planning to fly in the near future many need to have the Aarogya Setu app installed on their smartphones. According to a report by PTI, the government may be planning to make it mandatory for flyers post the lockdown period to have the Aarogya Setu application installed on their phones. 

“Preliminary discussions regarding making this app mandatory for air passengers have been done with the airlines," the government officials told the news agency. It was also added that the  Civil Aviation Ministry is yet to take a decision in this regard. It should be noted that the Aarogya Setu app is already mandatory for anyone planning to travel by rail. 

The Aarogya Setu app is India’s own contact tracing app that is designed to allow users to know how much ‘at risk’ they are of contacting the COVID-19 Coronavirus. It was recently reported that the app has been downloaded over 100 million times. The app was launched on April 2 and was downloaded by over 50 million users in 13 days, making it the fastest app to reach that milestone. 

However, the security capabilities of the app have been brought into question. Notable security researcher, Robert Baptiste, aka Elliot Alderson has warned the Indian government of security lapses in the Aarogya Setu app. He says that a malicious attacker can access a person’s information from anywhere. This could include details about their self-assessment test and they could even change their location and search radius to gather more Coronavirus-related information from various regions. Aarogya Setu crosses 100 million registered users, Indian government makes it mandatory for rail travel

Aarogya Setu, India’s official contact tracing app has been downloaded by more than 100 million citizens in a bid to keep a track of people who could be infected by the Coronavirus. The app was launched on April 2 and was downloaded by over 50 million users in just a matter of 13 days since, making Aarogya Setu the fastest app (Android or iOS) to reach that milestone.

In the backdrop of the app being criticized by many security researchers and privacy advocates, the Indian government has made Aarogya Setu mandatory for people travelling via railways. The same rule is expected to be implemented for people opting to travel via airlines once the services are operational.

In cities like Noida and Greater Noida, local authorities are entitled to criminally prosecute any person who’s found not having the Aarogya Setu app installed on their smartphones. This order has been challenged by the Internet Freedom Foundation in court as the developers of the contact tracing app work on a feature phone version.

The Indian government has made Aarogya Setu mandatory for its employees and has ordered private companies to follow suit. Additionally, the government could also be looking at making Aarogya Setu mandatory for all phones going on sale as lockdown restrictions are eased further.

Interestingly, 100 million users only account for 7.2 per cent of the total Indian populace and by virtue, contact tracing needs a much stronger user base to be used effectively. At a time when more than half of the country’s population use feature phones, they’re practically left out from the range of contact tracing apps. While the government is making a feature phone version of Aarogya Setu, it’s currently unknown how it plans to make the rural masses use the app and whether or not all feature phones will be compatible with the app.

Recently, French security researcher Robert Baptiste warned the Indian government of the security lapses in Aarogya Setu that lets any malicious attacker access a person’s COVID-19 information from anywhere in the world including details about their self-assessment tests. Moreover, with the data collected by the app, it’s possible to get Coronavirus information around a particular point of interest.

These claims were dismissed by the Aarogya Setu team as a built-in feature of the app. The government released data processing rules for Aarogya Setu that lay down some guidelines on the user data collected and an option for users to initiate removal of the collected data from the app within 30 days from making the request.

PUBG Mobile Lite v0170 update adds Payload Mode, map changes, new weapons, and more

PUBG Mobile was recently updated to v0.18.0, but that doesn’t mean that its little brother, PUBG Mobile Lite, isn’t receiving any love. The game has been updated to v0.17.0 and with it, comes a whole host of changes to the maps as well as the introduction of new game modes and vehicles. 

The most notable addition in PUBG Mobile Lite v0.17.0 is Payload mode. This mode was added to the standard version of PUBG Mobile a while back and now it is being updated to include new game mode. This mode has an increased focus on tactics and allows players to either team up, or play solo. It features a host of new weapons such as the grenade launcher, surface-to-air missile, as well as Super Weapons. It also comes with two new vehicles such as the armoured and amphibious BRDM-2 tank and Helicopter. 

Besides this, the update also brings a number of other changes and fixes. This includes a couple of map changes, which will see the addition of a new spawn island in Varenga where players will get to have a bit of fun while the game loads and populates. The map also gets a number of archaeological sites dotted around it. The update also removes a lot of content from the Spring Festival like Cherry Blossom Trees and Picnic Baskets. 

The BRDM-2 tank from the payload mode can now be summoned in classic mode via Flare Guns. There is also a new weapon in the form of the Desert Eagle. There is also a new Winner Pass that adds new themes of Summer Beach and Ramadan. Further, those who buy a pass for the first time will receive extra Point Cards.

Besides all this, players will also now get to access new functions for BFF, Buddy and Bromance to emote to friends and team members. As synergy between players increases, more emotes can be unlocked. Other miscellaneous changes include adjustments and bug fixes.
