iPhone 12 renders leaked, shows 54-inch notched OLED display and dual rear camera

If rumours are to be believed, Apple could be launching four variants of its 2020 iPhone. Multiple leaks have given us an early peek into a lineup that includes two base models and two Pro models. The latest leak surrounds the base model with the smallest 5.4-inch display.

European tech publication LetsGoDigital has published new renders of the base variant of the upcoming ‘iPhone 12’, that does give out an impression of a smaller footprint than before. We could just be looking at a compact iPhone that will sit above the newly announced iPhone SE (2020).

The renders are in line with the flat design Apple introduced with the new iPad Pro models this year, and the publication claims Apple will use an OLED display with an unknown resolution as of now. The panel also has the infamous notch which does seem to be more noticeable in the smaller dimensions. The notch also confirms the presence of FaceID and indeed, the render does not show a physical home button, ruling out fingerprint-based TouchID.

Previously, a leak had claimed the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will come with a dual-camera setup along with 4GB RAM. As for the internals, Apple is expected to power the phone with the upcoming Apple A14 Bionic SoC.

The leaked render also confirms the presence of dual cameras housed in the square camera module at the back and a thick chassis. What could be missing is the 120Hz refresh rate offered in the Pro models and the additional camera sensor and the LiDAR sensor introduced in the iPad Pro this year.

Google Chromes new Tab Groups feature lets you organise your tabs

Google is updating its Chrome internet browser and adding a new feature called ‘Tab Groups’. As the name would suggest, new features lets users group tabs together by right-clicking, and then labelling them with a custom name and colour. The feature is currently a part of Chrome Beta but should make its way to everyone over the coming weeks.

“We’ve been testing out tab groups for several months now (as have some of you), and we’re finding new ways to stay organized. Through our own usage and early user research, we’ve found that some people like to group their Chrome tabs by topic. For instance, it helps if you're working on several projects, or looking through multiple shopping and review sites,” writes Edward Jung, UX Engineer for Chrome.

Tab groups are customizable, so users can choose to use emoji’s if they want. Further, the groups are saved when users close and reopen Chrome. Tab Groups will be available on Chrome on the desktop for Chrome OS, Windows, Mac and Linux.

Earlier this month, Google announced that Google Duo, the company’s video chat app, would allow users to make group video calls on the web via Chrome. Users would need a Google account to access this feature. The app will also feature a ‘family mode’. This mode will allow users to draw on the screen and adds masks and effects in real-time as well. users can access this mode if you’re signed in to your Google account while using Duo. The app will also hide the mute button as well as the hang-up button so that you can draw and have fun without accidentally cancelling the call.

Last month, Google increased its participant limit on video calls to 12 users and now the company has revealed its plans to further increase the limit. by comparison, Facebook Messenger Room supports up to 50 people on a video call.

Oppo Greater Noida factory shut as staff test COVID-19 positive, Realme production line remains unaffected

Oppo has suspended manufacturing at its Greater Noida facility after six staffers test Cornavirus positive. The company had started it’s production line in the third phase of the nation-wide lockdown after getting appropriate permissions from the district authorities. However, now, it’s awaiting the test results of all of 3,000+ employees who work in the factory that also serves as an OEM partner to Realme and OnePlus.

Realme Mobiles also received local permission to restart its production line with a 25 per cent workforce after the company announced it’s latest Narzo 10 lineup in India. In a statement issued to the media, Realme assures that it “has separate production lines for the manufacturing of its smartphones and its staff has been isolated from the workers who were tested positive.”

"We have already prepared initial stocks of our new Narzo series and some popular models including the realme 6 series in advance for our customers. As a responsible brand, sales and stocks of products are not our focus right now. We will not rush to resume production but will follow Government instructions and our OEM partner OPPO's factory regulations till 100% worker’s safety are guaranteed," the statement adds.

Oppo’s manufacturing facility was operating at 30 per cent of its total workforce of 10,000+ staffers. However, now with the plan shut until the test results are out, the company in a statement to ET says it, "will only allow employees with negative test results to resume office following all safety protocols. We are undertaking stringent measures to keep the employees safe and disinfecting the premises."

As India enters the fourth phase of nation-wide lockdown that is expected to go on until May 31, more companies are expected to come out of slumber with new products and online events. Realme has already teased its first television and smartwatch launch for May 25 in India and it’s unlikely to defer it to a later date. This is because most of the current and upcoming IoT products by Realme are imported. Realme says, ”We are planning to start local manufacturing soon by following the “Make in India” initiative once the situation gets better.”

Oppo’s Greater Noida facility is also used by OnePlus for manufacturing the latest OnePlus 8 series that’s set to go on sale from May 29 for the general public. We have reached out to OnePlus for some more details in light of the recent developments at the Oppo factory and will update the story as soon as we hear something from them.

Greater Noida is currently home to more than 269 Coronavirus cases with as many as 189 recoveries from the disease till May 17. The latest government guidelines for the fourth phase of lockdown allow e-commerce companies to deliver non-essential products to its customers residing in red zones as well. So, it’s expected that more smartphone manufacturers and electronics maker will resume manufacturing in the next few days.

Realme Smart TV features and specifications revealed ahead of May 25 launch

Realme is all set to launch its TV and smartwatch via an online broadcast on May 25 and you can read all about that here. Today, however, the company has shared some specifications of the device. Not all, but some key specifications and features of the device have been revealed. It still isn't clear whether the TV will be a 4K TV or not, but at this stage, it can be a given that the TV will not only support 4K but HDR as well, since one of the specifications revealed says 400 nits brightness. This is the same brightness level found on the Nokia TV and the recently launched Kodak TVs. Both Nokia and Kodak boast of support for Dolby vision and we think the same will come to the Realme Smart TV.

Realme Smart TV Specifications

The Realme Smart TV boasts of slim bezels to give viewers an immersive viewing experience. The TV also boasts of “Chroma Boost Picture Engine” and we will have to wait for more details on what this engine does. However, a very interesting specification highlighted is the 400 nits of brightness on the TV. We have seen this specification is this LG gaming monitor and also on the Nokia TV and the Kodak TV launched recently.  Both the Nokia TV and the Kodak TVs boast of support for Dolby Vision with 400 nits of brightness. So it is safe to assume that the Realme TV will also come with the same support, however, this hasn't been confirmed yet by Realme.

Moving on, under the hood, the Realme TV is powered by the MediaTek 64-bit quad-core processor with ARM Coretex-A53 CPU and a Mali 470 GPU. The TV also claims to have 24W stereo sound with 4 speakers. 24W sound overall isn’t much considering most TVs come with 20W of sound, to begin with. 24W in 4 speakers would mean each speaker gets 6W of sound output. It is highly unlikely that each speaker has 24W of output, but we will have to wait and watch.

There is also an image that says, “Hey, turn on my Realme Smart TV” hinting at voice assistant support which we think means that the TV will run on the Android TV platform with support for the Google Assistant.

There is no information available about the price or screen sizes of the TV.

Rumours Regarding Potential Daredevil Game Under Development Shut-Down

Rumours regarding a possible Daredevil game under development has been shut down. The rumours emerged from a Twitter exchange between Troy Baker, popular voice actor for games such as The Last of Us and Bill Rosemann, Vice President at Marvel Games.

The conversation started with Jonathan Dornbush, host of Podcast Beyond asking his followers, "What is your dream superhero game and which developer would you want to make it?". To this, Troy Baker responded by tagging the Vice President of Marvel Games. Now, all of this still sounds pretty normal. But what instigated the Daredevil rumour is the reply from Bill Rosemann saying, "You, sir, are clearly a man without fear." The phrase "Man Without Fear" is an alias of the Marvel superhero from Hell's Kitchen, Daredevil. The alias comes from a 1993 five-issue comic book miniseries by Frank Miller under the name, Daredevil: The Man Without Fear.

As soon as this interaction occurred, everyone started assuming that there was probably a Daredevil Game under development. This possibility was further solidified by a post on 4chan a few weeks ago, where the user claimed that Marvel was allegedly working on a single-player, story-driven Daredevil title that was set to release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC in late 2021 or 2022. The post also went on to state that the game would be an open-world noir-style detective game set in modern-day Chicago.

Neither Troy Baker nor Bill Rosemann had added anything to the tweet thread later on by approving or discrediting any of the rumours. About 17 hours later, Bill Rosemann tweeted out a picture of his Daredevil comic collection, shutting down rumours stating that there was no Daredevil game under development. But rather, his reply to Troy Baker was just an acknowledgement about the shared desire they have for creating a game based on the said character.

Despite the over-hyped rumours, the idea of a noir-style Daredevil detective game actually does sound pretty cool. Especially after seeing what Marvel Games have achieved with their Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4. Although there is no Daredevil game under development right now, there is still a possibility that we could see it sometime in the near future based on Bill Rosemann's statement. Hopefully with Troy Baker voicing the Devil from Hell's Kitchen.
