Reliance Jio vs Airtel vs Vodafone vs MTNL: Rs 251 prepaid plans compared

Choosing a prepaid plan from a telecom operator is like trying to decide which rice you should buy. Should you go in for small grains, long grains, basmati, tukda basmati, the options are endless. Similarly, when you open the prepaid plan listing of a telecom operator, you are presented with overwhelming options. There is however one plan, for a very specific price, that a lot of telecom operators are offering. This is the Rs 251 plan. Each telecom operator is giving customers something different and if you are fortunate to have more than 1 prepaid SIM card, then you have to choose which of those deserves the Rs 251 treatment. For the same price, some telecom operators offer more data, others truly unlimited calling. So, here is a look at what you get when you take up a Rs 251 plan from different service providers.

Airtel Rs 251 prepaid plan

The Airtel Rs 251 prepaid plan is for those that want more data. The plan does not come with any validity period of its own and is valid as long the validity of your current plan. This means that you’ll get 50GB on top of your existing tariff plans with the same validity as your current active voucher. This new tariff plan provides 50GB data in a single go with no daily data capping. You can read the details of the plan here.

Reliance Jio Rs 251 prepaid plan

Moving over to Reliance Jio, the telecom operator has the Rs 251 plan as a part of its 'Work from Home' package. The plan priced at Rs 251 brings with it 30 days validity and just like the Airtel plan above, brings 50GB of data with no daily cap. Unlike the Airtel plan, which has validity depending on your current plan, the Jio plan has a validity of 30 days. As a part of its 'Work from Home' plan, Reliance Jio also offers plans priced at Rs 151 and Rs 201 that bring 30GB and 40GB data respectively for the same 30 days validity. You can read the details of the plan here.

Vodafone Idea Rs 251 prepaid plan

The Vodafone Rs 251 is similar to the Reliance one with the only difference being the validity. The Vodafone Rs 251 plan has a validity of 28 days. It also brings with it 50GB of data for the period. There is no daily limit in this voucher and users can use it as they please. This is a data-only top up, so there is no calling or SMS as a part of the recharge just like the Jio and Airtel plan above. You can read the details of the plan here.

MTNl Rs 251 prepaid plan

The MTNL plan has a validity of 28 days and this plan is targetted at those looking for more calling than data. For data, users get access to 1GB data per day for the duration of the validity.  Users also get access to a 100 SMS daily limit. When it comes to calling, the plan offers truly unlimited calling. This means that there is no limit on the number of minutes you can talk in a day. Some plans give users access to 250 minutes, per day. But on the MTNL website, the service provider says, “Truly Unlimited Free Local & STD calls from Home & National Roaming N/w”.

MTNL does have a Rs 231 plan that brings with it 3GB data per day and a validity of 45 days. The plan also brings unlimited free calling but the catch is that the benefit of free calling & SMS will be available from the home network and from MTNL Delhi nationwide. During roaming other than MTNL Delhi, standard roaming charges will be applicable. You can read the details of the plan here.

Here’s a quick look at some of the nest things players can expect in the new Jungle Mode.

Hot Air Balloons

The Hot Air Balloon is a new air vehicle that has been added to the map that allows players to survey the map. Mitron app pulled from Google Play Store for violating platform policy

As India moves towards more ‘Made in India’ apps and services, there’s one app that has garnered a lot of attention in the past few days. The Mitron app, which was billed as a local alternative to TikTok was championed as an app that was Made in India. But, as these things go, the app was found to have been a rebranded version of a similar app from developers in Pakistan. Things went from bad to worse as the Google Play Store has now taken off the app for violating the stores ‘spam and minimum functionality’ policy.

After the app hit Indian shores, there were many that praised it for being a locally developed app, but that truth was crushed under the fact that the source code for the application was purchased from Qboxus, a Pakistani software development company. It cost the developers a whopping $34 (Rs 2,500 approx). In an interview with News18, Qboxus CEO Irfan Shiek said, “There is no problem with what the developer has done. He paid for the script and used it, which is okay. But, the problem is with people referring to it as an Indian-made app, which is not true especially because they have not made any changes.”

As news of the app spread, questions were put forth regarding the security and privacy of the app. In fact, the developer website leaks to a blank page and there seems to be no privacy policy as well.

Talking about apps being pulled from Google, the ‘Remove China Apps’ application was also taken off the Play Store for violating the platform’s policies. If you’d like to check out apps that have been ‘Made in India’ we suggest checking out the two lists we have here and here.
