Xiaomi is ready with a 120W fast charger, watch leaked video

Xiaomi had revealed last year that it was working on a 100W Super Charge Turbocharger, showing how it can top up a 4,000mAh battery from 0-100% in just 17 minutes. Now, Xiaomi has an even more powerful charger to showcase. This time the charger can top up a phone with 120W power.

The charger can be seen briefly in this video —

The 120W charger comes with the model number MDY-12-ED. It has a maximum output of 120W achieved with 20V power that passes through the charger. That’s the maximum limit defined by USB Power Delivery standards. Only this time, the charger uses 6A current, instead of 5A previously.

The charger also supports other charger speeds, starting from 15W and going up to 120W. There’s no word of a smartphone from Xiaomi that can support such high charging speeds, yet. But the race for the fastest charging is heating up.

Realme, Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi are currently embroiled in the fight to get the most powerful smartphone charger to the masses.

Realme teased a 100W SuperDart charger late last year, while Vivo showcased a 120W charger at MWC Shanghai last year. Vivo claimed its speed is slightly faster at 13 minutes to charge a 4,000mAh battery.  While Xiaomi has not disclosed how fast its 120W charger can top up a 4,000mAh battery, it’s likely to take roughly the same time as Vivo’s.

Presently, the fastest charger is offered by Realme with the Realme X50 Pro at 65W. The same charger will be used in the upcoming Oppo Find X2 Pro flagship as well. Coming next is the iQOO 3 5G with a 50W charger. You can check out our charging speed comparison between these two chargers in the video embedded below.

PlayStation 5 Reveal Event Rescheduled for 12 June

Sony PlayStation has officially announced the rescheduled date for their digital event, PS5: The Future of Gaming. The event which was previously scheduled to take place on 5 June 1:30 AM IST, was cancelled until further notice out of respect for the ongoing political unrest in the United States. After a brief break, the event is now scheduled to be taking place on 12 June 2020 1:30 AM IST. The digital event is part of Geoff Keighley’s E3 alternative, Summer Game Fest, which was started as a response to the cancellation of gaming events worldwide due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

See you Thursday, June 11 at 1:00pm Pacific time (9:00pm BST) for a look at the future of gaming on #PS5: https://t.co/9XJkXYProo pic.twitter.com/8EoN34UPdd

— PlayStation (@PlayStation) June 8, 2020

The announcement comes from Sid Shuman, Senior Director, SIE Content Communications in an official blog. He started out by thanking fans worldwide for being patient and understanding the gravity of the situation that led to the initial cancellation. He said, “Hi all - thanks for being patient and understanding while we reschedule this PS5 event for Thursday, June 11 at 1 PM Pacific time  / 9 PM BST. We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.” He further went on to share more details pertaining to the event. He stated that the event is not actually a live event. But instead, a pre-taped program that will be running at 1080p and 30 frames per second. Which means that we could assume the event to be well-produced to a certain extent. Probably shot in some private studio with some form of professional equipment and social distancing. If that is the case, it would be so much different from the other Summer Game Fest events up until now.

In an earlier blog post from Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment had stated some additional details in regards to the event. He stated that the event will be running for a little over an hour. However, certain leaks suggest that the event will be running for a little over 2 and a half hours. As expected with every other PlayStation conference until now, we can expect a first-look at a series of games being revealed at the event, showing the potential of the new hardware. In Jim’s words, “The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.” Jim had also stated that this conference was only a part of the upcoming updates on the PlayStation 5 and that after the showcase, they still have so much more to show us.

Towards the end of the blog post, Sid Shuman also recommended that we wear headphones while watching the show as there is some cool audio work as well. And that blasting it on our speakers or phones would be somewhat of a disservice to our experience. The event will be live on Twitch and YouTube on the official PlayStation channels and also on the Summer Game Fest website on 12 June 1:30 AM IST. Make sure to tune in.

Similar to the upcoming PS5: Future of Gaming event, Microsoft had also held a conference for the Xbox Series X earlier this month, showcasing a bunch of new game titles for their upcoming next-gen console. The event had received a ton of backlash for false advertising gameplay footage for Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which you can check out here. Additionally, feel free to sign up to the Summer Game Fest here, to keep up to date with new gaming events as and when they pop up.

Google Maps will alert users of crowded buses, COVID-19 checkpoints, and more

After months of being locked up in our houses, the country is slowing starting to spring back to action. But the threat of coronavirus is very much present, and it’s likely that India still hasn’t seen its peak. So even if transport, shops and offices open up slowly, it’s important to maintain physical distance. In the absence of a vaccine or medicine, this is really the only way to flatten the curve. Google Maps has released a bunch of new features that will alert users of places that are crowded, medical checkpoints and other important locations.

India is in the first wave of countries getting the feature. Other than India, countries like Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom and the US are also receiving the feature. It will be available in both iOS and Android apps. Previously, Google Maps had added locations of food and night shelters in India.

“Getting from A to B can be more complicated these days. Because of COVID-19, it’s increasingly important to know how crowded a train station might be at a particular time or whether the bus is running on a limited schedule. Having this information before and during your trip is critical for both essential workers who need to safely navigate to work and will become more important for everyone as countries around the world begin to reopen,” Ramesh Nagarajan, product management director at Google Maps wrote in a blog post.

Social distancing for both drivers and public transport takers

According to the blog, Google Maps will share relevant information from local transit agencies when you look for directions that are most likely to be restricted during the pandemic.

“This can help you prepare accordingly if government mandates impact transit services or require you to wear a mask on public transportation,” the blog states. The transport alert feature is live in multiple countries including India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom and the U.S. These countries will provide information from local transit agencies to Google Maps to help users decide on the steps they need to take before boarding a bus or a train.

Maps is also rolling out a new driver alert feature that informs about COVID-19 checkpoints and restrictions in the route when crossing a national border. This feature will not be in India right now. Only Canada, Mexico and the US will get the feature.

If you are going to a COVID testing centre or heading to a medical facility, Maps will alert you to verify eligibility and follow guidelines of the facility so you don’t get turned away by the medical authorities. Google will receive data from local, state and federal governments and their websites. It’s not clear whether this feature will be coming to India.

This means you should be able to tell the TV to launch a particular app. Whether you will be able to switch the TV on and off using your voice remains to be seen. The ability to switch the TV on and off with your voice is a feature we have seen in the Sony A9G OLED TV. The TV needs to be powered and on standby for it to work.

In addition to the remote control, users will be able to use the MagiConnect app on their smartphone to control the features of the TV. The app will also let you control basic TV functions and use the smartphone as a keyboard, in case you need to type in text on the TV. We know how annoying typing in a password on the TV can be using the remote control.

The TV also boasts of TCL Contents Channel.
