Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, The Matrix 4 and more release dates pushed back by Warner Bros

If you thought movie theatres were going to spring back in action after being shut down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, well think again. In an unsurprising move, Warner Bros have delayed the release of the much-anticipated Christopher Nolan film, Tenet, from July 17 to July 31. The film joins other blockbusters such as Wonder Woman 1984 which was pushed back by two months from August 14 to October 2. Godzilla vs Kong, which has been postponed by six months, from November 20 to May 21, 2021. The Tom and Jerry movie was also pushed back by two months from December 23 and will premier on March 5, 2021. Finally, the much-hyped Matrix 4 will also be postponed by about an entire year as the film will hit theatres on April 1, 2022, instead of the intended date of May 21, 2021.

Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, The Matrix 4 release date pushed back

These massive changes in the release schedule were announced over the weekend by Warner Bros. If anything, movie theatres could be potential hotboxes for the Coronavirus to spread and should be treated as such. It’s clear that Warner Bros needed to reshuffle its film’s release dates and is looking at jump-starting the film industry by releasing Christopher Nolans Tenet. The director was and is still adamant on his films getting a theatrical release as he does not really see the streaming market as to where his films should premier. And, although movie theatres have started opening up in certain states in the US and Europe, the rest of the world is not that lucky. China, in fact, cancelled plans of reopening theatres since another round of Coronavirus cases were reported.

India is also in the same boat as the Multiplex Association of India has submitted safety guidelines but were shut down by the government. Theatres in India are a part of Phase 3 of opening up along with International flights and public transport. As of now, there are no concrete dates as to when this will take place as the government has not set a date for Phase 3. As you all know, India has seen a spike in Coronavirus cases as soon as the country launched into the first phase of opening up. With that in mind, Tenet will definitely not be heading to Indian theatres anytime soon so fans of Nolan will have to wait for a bit to catch the time-bending thriller.

Pixel 4a launch date postponed again, likely to be announced in July

After the Pixel 4 did not release in India because of a radar sensor feature, it was thought that the Pixel 4a would be the next Google smartphone to hit Indian shores. The company could have been looking at announcing the phone at the Google I/O event but since the Coronavirus pandemic brought the world to its knees, the event did not take place. The phone was then rumoured to be launched on July 13 but a leakster by the name of Jon Prosser says that though the Pixel 4a will be announced on July 13, we may have to wait for quite a bit to actually get our hands on the phone.

According to Prosser, the Pixel 4a will be announced on July 13 but will only be launched on October 22. For now, the ‘Just Black’ variant seems to be the only phone that will launch while the ‘Barely Blue’ variant ‘has been removed entirely’. Prosser has earlier said that the black Pixel 4a would be out on August 6 and the blue Pixel 4a would be launched on October 1. As of now, there is no word on why the dates have been moved nor is there an explanation for why the blue variant of the Pixel 4a has been taken off the lineup.

Where’s Pixel 4a? Here’s an update: AGAIN, it seems Google has delayed Pixel 4a

OnePlus Pods could be the name of the OnePlus TWS

It looks like we finally have the name of the upcoming OnePlus TWS headphones. The OnePlus TWS has been a part of the rumour mill for quite some time now and it looks like we may finally have a glimpse at the possible name of the headset. The “oneplus_tws_pods” name was discovered by XDA Developer in the Android 11 beta code for the OnePlus 8 series. The code revealed individual battery levels for the left and right earbud which is only necessary if the headset is a TWS. According to the source, “In some parts (of the code), there are mentions of an “oppoPodsService” which may suggest a relation between the OnePlus Pods and one of OPPO’s existing truly wireless earbuds—perhaps the OPPO Enco W31 or OPPO Enco Free? The BluetoothDeviceDetailsFragment class references double-tap actions for playing/pausing music or skipping to the next/previous song, OTA updates, and a “find my Bluetooth earphone” setting which could be related to Google’s new Find My Accessory feature for Fast Pair devices.”

Known tipster Max J. was the first to bring up the existence of the OnePlus TWS. He said that they were expected to launch alongside the OnePlus Z. Recent developments suggest that the OnePlus Z could actually be the Nord by OnePlus. Or under the Nord by OnePlus umbrella. OnePlus has filed for a trademark for the “Nord by OnePlus” name. The trademark was filed in March 2020. It is possible that the name OnePlus 8 Lite and the OnePlus Z were internal names for the new Nord by OnePlus Lineup. The trademark reveals a number of devices under the Nord by OnePlus name including devices like “Tablet computers; Smartphones; Sleeves for laptops; Loudspeakers for mobile phones; Headphones for mobile phones; Electronic book readers; Smart television; Remote controls for televisions”. You can read more about Nord by OnePlus here.

Coming back to the OnePlus TWS, it is suggested that the headset will launch alongside the upcoming OnePlus smartphone. OnePlus did launch the OnePlus bullets Wireless Z alongside the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The Bullets Wireless Z is the third-generation neckband-style headphones from OnePlus. Interestingly, there aren’t many audio upgrades to talk about in this one, but OnePlus did add a splash of new colour options to choose from. The OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z retail for Rs 1,999 in India.

OnePlus 8T series could come with 65W fast charging technology

The OnePlus 8 series has just been released but OnePlus is already looking to the future with the OnePlus 8T series. In our review, we said that the OnePlus 8 Pro ticks all the boxes for a premium flagship this time, and if not for inconsistent camera performance, it would have been at par with the Samsung and Apple flagships. The OnePlus 8 Pro, as of now, supports 30W fast charging which OnePlus showed off with the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition. But, according to a report from Gizmochina, it looks like OnePlus is planning on releasing a 65W Super Warp charge.

As the OnePlus 8T series is getting ready for a worldwide launch, the 65W fast charging feature might make its debut with the OnePlus 8T series. We could see the 65W fast charging feature to be exclusive to the OnePlus8T and any other special editions if they are to be released. This fast charging feature could charge the OnePlus 8T to be charged much faster than its predecessors. As of now, there is no news on when the 65W fast charger will be released. The technology will be based on the OPPO 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 and Realme 65W SuperDart charging technology. OnePlus have also teased a new colour variant called ‘Ice Blue’ as well.

In other OnePlus news, users who own the OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro can now download the Android 11 Beta 1. You can read more about that story here. The OnePlus 8 Pro will also go on sale in India for the first time. You can find out more about this right here.

New breathalyser test could detect COVID-19 in about 15 seconds

In the war against the novel Coronavirus, researchers at Ohio State University have developed a breathalyzer that can actually detect metabolites that are related to COVID-19 in about 15 seconds. As of right now, the only real tests involve nasal swabs which then have to be transported to a lab to be analysed. This takes a few hours or sometimes even a few days, But, with this new breathalyzer, you can find out if someone has been infected with the Coronavirus in just about 15 short seconds. What this means is that mass screenings and testing can now take place in large public gatherings such as airports, malls and such. First reported by Medgadget, the breathalyzer is not widely used in the medical field but researchers are confident that it will see mass adoption soon.

In an announcement, Lead Developer Perena Gouma said, “Breath analysis is not really a technique that is used widely in the medical field yet, so it is considered early-stage work. We have a sensor device that detects nitric oxide and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in breath and can be used to tell you about the onset of an infectious disease”. From what we know, the test is relatively easy to manufacture and is quite cheap. Anyone who owns the breathalyzer can perform the test on themselves. This breathalyzer uses new nanomaterials that collect and measure the relevant gases.

Perena Gouda also added, “We are working on making these hand-held monitors that will be widely distributed and they’re very inexpensive. The technology evolved from the sensors used for monitoring gases in an automotive exhaust – that’s how we started on breath analysis 20 years ago.”

In other COVID-19 related news, Google Maps will now alert users of crowded buses, COVID-19 checkpoints, and more. You can read more about that story here. Fitbit also plans to make emergency ventilators for COVID-19 patients in India and you can read more about that here. Also, you can check out how the SwissCovid Contact tracing app is different from Aarogya Setu, right here.
