EA Releases Trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons

EA released their first official trailer for their new game, Star Wars: Squadrons on 15 June 2020. Unlike other Star Wars games, this one is a first-person space combat title with both single and multiplayer experiences. The game was unveiled as part of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which is a 4-month long digital gaming festival, that was started as a response to the cancellation of E3 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. You can check out the in-engine cinematic trailer at the bottom.

As described by Geoff Keighley, the premise of the game is that the player becomes an elite pilot in the Star Wars galaxy and masters the art of Starfighter combat. The first-person pilot game will be featuring 5v5 multiplayer dogfights, fleet battles and a single-player campaign featuring a completely original story set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Star Wars: Squadrons will also be providing tons of customization options for your Starfighter. The player could earn weapons, hauls, engines and shields to customize and upgrade their Starfighter’s combat value and also in-game cosmetic items to customize the internals of their cockpit. It is worth mentioning that EA has learned from their previous lessons and that these items will only be unlockable through gameplay and not through pay-to-win tactics. Other than that, the game will be coming with VR support as well. EA plans to reveal the full gameplay footage for the same on 19 June 2020 at 4:30 AM IST during their EA Play Live event, which you could watch either on the Electronic Arts YouTube or Twitch channels or on the Summer Game Fest official website.

Star Wars: Squadrons is set to come out on 2 October 2020 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam, Origin and the Epic Games Store. The price tag on Steam and Origin says ₹2499, while it is on Epic, PlayStation and Xbox at $39.99 USD, which is about ₹3035. EA no longer has its games limited to Origin as seen with their recent partnership with Steam. However, playing those games still requires you to link your EA account to Steam, similar to Ubisoft with their UPlay. For now, EA has not made any statements in regards to next-gen support for this game. Additionally, feel free to sign up to Summer Gamer Fest here, to keep up to date with new gaming events as and when they pop up.

Asus ROG Phone III will come with an overclocked Snapdragon 865, 16GB RAM and 512GB storage and a 144Hz display

The next ROG Phone from Asus has been popping up in different places indicating its imminent launch in the market. The phone’s internal hardware was leaked via a Geekbench listing previously, and now the phone’s specs have surfaced on TENAA and AnTuTu, along with a few photos of the phone’s design.

The TENAA listing states states the gaming phone will pack a smaller battery this time. 5800mAh as compared to the 6000mAh behemoth in the predecessor. It shouldn’t make a big difference, owing to the power efficiency gains Qualcomm has claimed in this year’s flagship Snapdragon 865. We also expect the phone to now come with an OLED display, with a higher 144Hz refresh rate. What’s confirmed is that the phone will continue with a FullHD+ resolution with 6.59-inch footprint. It will also be 9.85mm thick.

The images leaked on TENAA also shows a triple camera setup at the back, with the physical buttons on one side. This indicates the ROG Phone III will stick to the AirTriggers, which are pressure sensitive buttons on the edges for gaming. We couldn’t spot the extra USB-C port on the side in the images though.

Zeroing in on the hardware inside, the AnTuTu listing reveals a score of 646310, which is far higher than what other Snapdragon 865-powered devices have scored on the benchmark test. The reason for that is an overclocked prime core in the Snapdragon 865, hinting at a freshly tuned processor from Qualcomm.

AnTuTu listing reveals the Kryo 585 prime core is overclocked to 3.09GHz, far higher than the 2.84GHz limit on other phones. The other two core clusters consisting of Kryo 585 Gold and Silver cores are clocked at 2.42GHz and 1.8GHz respectively. The Adreno 650 GPU seems to be the same.

Asus will also use the latest RAM and storage modules in the phone, going with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.0, which should further improve performance. The amount of RAM and storage is also interesting. Asus will offer a 16GB+512GB variant of the phone. The 144Hz refresh rate was also confirmed by the AnTuTu listing.

Asus will also find a new way to cool the overclocked prime core, and we are speculating it to be a combination of vapour chamber liquid cooling and an airflow system.

The Asus ROG Phone II was announced last year in July, and going by the slew of certifications the phone is picking up, it may be on track to launch in July this year as well.
