Did Amazon reveal the price of the PS5

Ben Geskin took to Twitter to reveal that Amazon France has briefly listed the PS5 along with a release date and price. The listing which has since been removed shows the console availability date as November 20, 2020. The pricing of the console looks fairly attractive as well. The Digital Edition of the PS5 was listed for Euro 399 (Rs 35,000 approx directly converted) and the PS5 with a disc drive was priced at Euro 499 which is Rs 43,000 approx directly converted. As for the release date of November 20, 2020, it looks to be close to when Sony could launch the console as the company has said that it will release the PS5 during the holiday season of 2020. To put things into perspective, the PS4 launched on November 15, 2013, in the US. We, however, suggest you take the leaked PS5 price with a grain of salt as this could just be an error listing.

Both Sony and Microsoft are committed to launching their consoles in 2020 and both the companies have shown off the console design, specifications, new controller and games lineup. The only thing left to reveal is the price.

Both Sony and Microsoft are playing chicken and looking to undercut the other by $50 or $100 to gain market share faster. In the current console generation, Sony has a clear lead with the PS4 when compared to the Xbox One. However, Microsoft has put in considerable effort to lay the foundation for the next-gen with services like Xbox Game Pass and game studio acquisitions.

With the upcoming console generation, it looks like Microsoft has the advantage with CPU and GPU power, but the PS5 has a much faster SSD. You can check out the specs of the Xbox Series X here and the specs of the PS5 here. When it comes to the design, Microsoft has gone with a more industrial design with the Xbox series X and it looks minimalistic, like a cube, so to speak. The PS5, on the other hand, has a space-age design with its dual-tone white and black colour scheme. If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then the PS5 will be taller and deeper than the Xbox Series X but not as wide. You can check out our design comparison between the 2 consoles here.

Mi Notebook 14, Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition to go on sale in India today, should you buy it

If you were looking forward to the Mi NoteBook and Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition, then know that the laptops are going on sale today. The Mi NoteBook 14 has an introductory price of Rs 41,999. While the Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition starts at Rs  54,999. But are the laptops worth it? Well, we have only reviewed the Horizon edition of the Mi NoteBook and in our review of the laptop, we said, “The Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition is a surprisingly good laptop. Its performance is adequate, but perhaps its best feature is the sturdy build quality all around. What doesn’t work is the lack of backlighting on the keyboard and less than satisfying typing experience, coupled with a trackpad that has too much play. Redeeming the corners cut is the impressive battery life and when you factor in the good quality of the display and the fact that this machine weighs just 1.35 kilograms, we actually have a viable option for a thin and light machine in this price bracket. The Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition is ideally suited for anyone who is looking for a laptop to fulfil their daily needs of entertainment, typing, researching on the web and maybe, just maybe, even very light photo editing. It is not meant for those who are looking for a budget-friendly editing or gaming machine. For those, you’re still better off going with an actual budget gaming laptop like the Asus TUF Gaming A15 (Review) or the Acer Predator Triton 300 (Review).” You can also watch our video review of the laptop below.

Snapdragon 690 announced: Qualcomm brings 5G to mid-range phones

Even if 5G is still something reserved for the flagships in India, Qualcomm is working to scale down 5G technology to more affordable segments. The San-Diego based company announced the Snapdragon 690, the first 5G chipset in the 6-series, although it only supports the slower sub-6GHz of 5G with the new Snapdragon X51 5G modem.

The Snapdragon 690 succeeds the gaming-centric Snapdragon 675 with the latest Arm Cortex A77 cores inside, along with support for 120Hz displays and 4K HDR video recording.

Based on an 8nm manufacturing process, Qualcomm promises a 20 per cent boost in CPU performance along with 60 percent faster graphics rendering, as compared to the Snapdragon 675. But the biggest addition is still the 5G modem inside, which makes it the first budget chipset from the company to support the next-generation connectivity. The 6-series chips are used in budget devices by Xiaomi, Moto, and Nokia and they are usually priced far more affordably than an 8-series or 7-series chipset.

Alongside 5G, there are a few more improvements as well. The Snapdragon 690 can support up to 192-megapixel cameras and support 4K HDR video capture. Both of these are a first for the 6-series. The chipset supports the AI-enabled smooth zoom as well. Furthermore, the chipset will have the capability to support a 120Hz display.

Yet, the Snapdragon 690 will still be relatively expensive. In India at least, the 6-series chipsets are used in the sub-$150 (roughly Rs 12,000) range, but Dipu John-Senior Director, Product Management at Qualcomm told us the chipset will be powering devices priced around $300-$500 (roughly Rs 22,000) range in the US. But then again, with no 5G available in India, OEMs will have less incentive to launch these devices in India, because the premium Qualcomm charges for the 5G bit will not be feasible in the face of competition from the Snapdragon 720 SoC or even the Snapdragon 730G, both of which power devices priced less than Rs 20,000.

Qualcomm said HMD Global, LG, Motorola and TCL are among the companies who are planning to launch devices powered by the new Snapdragon 690 and will be rolling out in the second half of 2020.
