Apex Legends to get Cross-Play, coming to Steam and Nintendo Switch later this year

Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts announced that Apex Legends is going to get cross-play later this year, allowing players to compete with those who may be on a different platform. The good news continued to flow during the EA Play Live 2020, with EA announcing that Apex Legends would also be available on Steam and the Nintendo Switch in Fall this year.

When Apex Legends launched back in 2019, users have been asking for a number of essential features. At the launch, people clamoured for cross-play, along with the game being available on platforms other than EA Origins. The other loud demand has been to bring Apex Legends to the mobile, something that Respawn categorically denied at the time, but later, EA hinted at the possibility of it happening. Since the game’s launch, it's only been available on PC (through Origin), the Xbox and PlayStation 4. Today’s announcement brings Apex Legends to another platform, the Nintendo Switch, but surprisingly there was no mention for the next generation consoles.

In addition to the expansion to other platforms, EA also announced new content coming to the Season 5 of Apex Legends, which Respawn calls one of its most successful during the EA Play Broadcast. Fans also got their first glimpse at the Lost Treasures even which is expected to kick off on June 23. “The event features a new mode, limited-time exclusives and a new Town Takeover — Crypto’s Map Room,” EA explained in a press release. “Players can see the return of the game’s sniper and shotgun only mode – Armed and Dangerous – with a few twists such as Evo Armor and an all-new piece of loot, Mobile Respawn Beacons.”

Apex Legends launched rather quickly, post the success of PUBG, becoming a very popular option for those who wanted a different experience than what PUBG has to offer. The game saw a rapid ballooning of its audience at the launch, but the growth slowed down over a period of time. Despite the slowdown, Respawn still boasted 70 million registered players in October 2019.

Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed to November

CD Projekt Red’s most anticipated open-world role-playing-game of the year, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed yet again, for the second time. The game will now be releasing on 19 November 2020 instead of its previously rescheduled September date.

— Cyberpunk 2077 (@CyberpunkGame) June 18, 2020

The announcement came directly from Marcin IwiƄski, Co-Founder and Adam Badowski, Head of Studio in the form of a letter. The letter started out by describing the motive behind the studio’s decision to postpone the release of the title. Which was, to make sure that the game was totally ready at launch. They stated that the phrase “Ready when it’s done” is something that their developers have always stood by. And that they would not ship their product until and unless they were completely sure it was ready. They further went on to apologise for the delay and said that it was the right decision to make in regards to the well being of the game. As for the game’s status, they stated that it is ready in terms of content and gameplay. However, with the abundance of quests, cutscenes and elements in the massive open-world environment, it is necessary to make sure that the game was devoid of any technical errors such as bugs or glitches, at launch-day. For which they require at least 2 more months.

Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced back in 2013 with a cinematic teaser trailer. Since then the game has been in development and was officially revealed to the public at E3 2018. The game features a huge open-world map with tons of RPG elements, a highly story-driven narrative and an arsenal of futuristic weapons and mechanics at your disposal. The game which was originally scheduled to come out on 16 April 2020 was then postponed to 17 September 2020 back in January, as the developers needed more time to finish the game. Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red had also announced a whole bunch of Cyberpunk 2077 themed custom hardware including an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti graphics card, an Xbox One X console and a set of Steelseries headsets to go along with the game.

Journalists worldwide would be getting their hands on the game this week. They will be publishing their previews for the game right after Cyberpunk 2077’s digital event, Night City Wire, which is scheduled to air on 25 June 2020 on their official YouTube channel and the Summer Game Fest official website. You can watch Night City Wire and keep a tab on any of the upcoming digital gaming events by signing up to Summer Game Fest here.

iPhone 12 could be one of Apples tiniest phones yet

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 is expected to come in four different-sized variants and the base model could be smaller than the recently launched iPhone SE 2020. The entry-level iPhone 12 is rumoured to feature a 5.4-inch display with a notch cutout for the Face ID and selfie camera.

A video posted recently on Twitter by Everything Apple Pro shows an alleged CAD render of the upcoming iPhone 12 being compared to the iPhone SE 2020 that was launched in April as the budget iPhone.

Even though the new iPhone SE features a smaller 4.7-inch display, it has broad bezels on the top and bottom for the selfie camera and Touch ID button that give it a 16:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 is rumoured to feature a 5.4-inch display with a smaller Face ID notch cutout on the front giving it a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This allows the phone to have a large screen estate in a relatively small metal casing, making it more compact that the budget iPhone.

This is in line with our previous reports that hinted at a flat-design for the iPhone 12 as opposed to curved sides. Latest rumours indicate that all the iPhone 12 models Apple is preparing to announce this year will feature OLED screens and will be powered by A14 Bionic chipset with 5G support.

Previous leaks have also hinted that the new iPhones for 2020 will be priced aggressively, with the iPhone 12 starting at $649. The iPhone 12 Max is expected to be priced starting at $749 while the other two models, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are rumoured to come with triple camera setup along with a LiDAR sensor like the one on the recently launched iPad Pro. Both the phones are expected to feature a high 120Hz refresh rate as well. The iPhone 12 Pro could start from $999 while the larger 12 Pro Max is said to be priced at $1099.

Apple is expected to host its iPhone event in September, but the event may be moved by a few days or weeks due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Additionally, given that we’re still many months away from the actual launch, a lot can change between now and then. So, we’ll advise our readers to take this with a pinch of salt.

Keen is the latest attempt by Google to crack the social media space

After the abject failure of Google Plus, it looks like the company is still looking for a social media contender to rival the likes of Facebook and Twitter. Created by Google’s Area 120 workshop,  and PAIR, who work AI research, the company’s latest take at a social media app is called Google Keen. Similar to Pinterest rather than the big two, the app is now available on the Google Play Store, but there’s no word on when it’ll come to IOS yet. Google has tried its best to break into the social media space with apps like Orkut and Google Plus getting run over by Facebook, Twitter and others.

The app functions somewhat like Pinterest, in that you curate ‘Keens’, using them to collect images, articles, stuff that you’re interested in. You can then share them with your friends and people in your circle. How PAIR and AI make a difference here is that it does its magic in the background to show you stuff that might be of interest to you, which you can then curate to your ‘Keen’.

It looks like Google has not learnt its lesson when it comes to social media and continues to bang their head against the wall hoping something will stick. Will Google Keen be the next big thing? Who knows, but with Google’s track record of social media apps, it’ll probably be shuttered by the end of the year.

In other Google news, the company has announced a new Stadia Connect Event and you can read more about it here. And if you’re up for a bit of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan could soon be the voice you hear on your Google Maps. And, speaking of Google Maps, the app will now alert users about crowded buses, COVID-19 checkpoints and more. Check out that story here.
