Asus ZenFone 7, ZenFone 7 Pro tipped to feature flip camera designs

It seems like Asus may stick with the flip camera design for its next flagship smartphones. According to a report by TNNToday.com Asus plans to launch two smartphones in the Asus ZenFone 7 series, namely the ZenFone 7 and the ZenFone 7 Pro. Both these devices are tipped to feature the flip camera design that was introduced in the Asus ZenFone 6Z. It should also be noted that if/when Asus launches these devices in India, it will most likely end up calling them the Asus 7 and Asus 7 Pro, similar to what it had to do with the Asus 6Z.

Details of the Asus 7 series are not yet confirmed,  but the phone was recently spotted on Geekbench a few days back. According to the listing, the phone will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and run Android 10, which is pretty much par for the course as far as 2020 flagships are concerned. However, what would set the Asus 7 apart would be the 16GB RAM that the device is touted to offer

But before the Asus 7 (or Asus ZenFone 7), the Taiwanese-company will be more focused on unveiling the latest version of its ROG series of gaming phones. Called the Asus ROG Phone 3, the device is scheduled to launch in India on July 22, which is the same day as the device’s global launch. The new phone is confirmed to pack the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC, which is tipped to offer an improved gaming performance. The chip will also power the Lenovo Legion 5G gaming smartphone that is scheduled to launch on the same day, albeit few hours ahead of the ROG Phone’s launch. The new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset has an improved 10 per cent performance over the Snapdragon 865 which means that the prime core can now run at up to 3.1GHz clock speeds with 10% boost in graphics rendering.

Breaking Bads Giancarlo Esposito AKA Gus Fring is the new villain in Far Cry 6

Ubisoft is all ready to hold its E3 equivalent press event, Ubisoft Forward, on Monday, July 13 at 12:30 AM IST. One of the games that Ubisoft planned to show but gamers were unaware of was the next instalment in the Far Cry franchise Far Cry 6. We’ve heard whispers that Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito AKA Gus Fring would be in the game and that has now been confirmed thanks to a PlayStation Store leak and Ubisoft's official confirmation as well.

According to Gamespot, “The leak revealed that Esposito will appear in Far Cry 6, which is supported by this tweet coming from the official Far Cry account. Far Cry 6 will take place in a tropical paradise called Yara, ruled over by the despotic Anton Castillo and his son Diego. Esposito appears likely to be playing Castillo.”

After the leak, Ubisoft took to Twitter to tweet, “Anton would not be pleased. See you on Sunday at #UbiForward”.

— Far Cry (@FarCrygame) July 10, 2020

The leaked listing also said that Far Cry 6 would be available on current as well as next-gen consoles. Ubisoft is one publisher that has heavily supported the cross-gen phase with games appearing on current and next-gen helping ease the transition for gamers. Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassins Creed Valhalla, the upcoming Assassin's Creed game will be a free upgrade for those that purchase it on the current-gen and want to play it on their next-gen consoles as well.

Far Cry 6 will be a proper sequel unlike Far Cry New Dawn which was more like a next chapter in the Far Cry 5 universe. The game was set in Hope County after the nuclear attack of Far Cry 5. In our review of Far Cry New Dawn we said, “In the past, we have seen The Witcher 3 DLC which is bigger than some full games. We have also seen games like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy give players a tight action-packed adventure and cost less than a full retail game. Far Cry: New Dawn is priced at Rs 2,499 for the consoles in a day where full games are priced at about Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000. For the price, the package is definitely value for money. You get a game with a good story, fun gameplay and a long lifespan. On the downside, some of the missions can get repetitive. If you are one that enjoys shooters, then you can definitely consider this one”. You can check out our review in detail here.

iOS users were in for a rude shock today when some of their apps, including PUBG Mobile, Spotify and more refused to start, leading to some confusion among users. PUBG Mobile players, for example, started flooding the company’s Twitter page with angry complaints stating that their game crashed as soon as the game started to load. However, as mentioned earlier, PUBG Mobile wasn’t the only app to be affected by such a problem. Spotify, Pinterest, Tinder and other users on iOS also reported the same issue around the game time. It turns out that apparently the issue wasn’t with these apps or their individual developers, but rather with Facebook. More specifically, with Facebook’s SDK.

Crashing on PUBG Mobile, Spotify, traced to Facebook

Facebook’s software development kit (SDK) is used by many apps to manage their user logins. Facebook acknowledged the problem on its developer platform. The company noted that a code change led to crashes for certain apps that were using the Facebook SDK. “Earlier today, a code change triggered crashes for some iOS apps using the Facebook SDK. We identified the issue quickly and resolved it. We apologize for any inconvenience,” the company noted in its platform.

The problem really does seem to be resolved. PUBG Mobile also tweeted that the problem was rectified.

Malicious Joker malware for Android apps makes a comeback on PlayStore, is Google not doing enough

The Joker malware, which stole money from people’s account by signing them up for premium subscriptions, is back on the Google Playstore, just months after Google said it won against the malware after a three-year-long fight. It’s one of the most persistent threats plaguing the popular app store, according to Google, and now it’s back.

A report from cybersecurity firm Check Point claims new variants of the malware, termed Joker Dropper and Premium Dialer Spyware was spotted in Google Play. The spyware made a comeback, by following old techniques used by PC malware to avoid detection.

Joker malware is back on PlayStore

The updated version of the Joker malware was reportedly able to download additional malware to the device after the infected apps were installed. The threat is the same as before — The malware subscribes you to premium services without the user’s knowledge.

The firm claims they have found 11 such seemingly legitimate apps that house the virus. The virus reportedly hides in the ‘essential information’ file every Android app compulsorily needs to have.

The report also attacked the Google PlayStore for not doing enough. “We were able to detect numerous cases of Joker uploads on a weekly basis to Google Play, all of which were downloaded by unsuspecting users. The Joker malware is tricky to detect, despite Google’s investment in adding Play Store protections,” a spokesperson for Check Point told TOI.

Google has rolled out Google Play Protect to devices that run on Google services to offer real-time protection against threats from apps downloaded from Google Playstore.
