OnePlus Buds will support Dolby Atmos, come in three colour options: Report

OnePlus is all set to launch the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus TWS called the OnePlus Buds at an AR event tomorrow and if you want to know how to watch the event live in AR, you can do so here. However, today’s information comes from 9to5Google who have discovered new information about the OnePlus Buds in an update for the OnePlus 8. The update highlights some important information about the Buds such as the colour options it will be available in, some gestures and even fast pairing. So let’s dive in and see all the new information uncovered about the OnePlus Buds.

OnePlus Buds Colour Options and Design

According to the source, the OnePlus Buds will be available in three colour options - black, white and blue. The white and black seem to be pretty simple, but the blue ones seem to have a green interior in the charging/carrying box. It still isn’t clear if these will be the only three colour options for the buds. The design of the Buds itself is inspired by the original OnePlus Bullets with a flat circle on the top of the earbud. The design of the earbud is also in line with a recent interview in which Carl Pei was wearing the buds.

In the latest OnePlus 8 update, OnePlus added a OnePlus Buds apk with full res images of the OnePlus Buds. Here are the renders. pic.twitter.com/KJFskESIpN

— Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) July 19, 2020 OnePlus Buds Features

The information from the update also revealed some information about the features of the Buds. One of the features is “find my bud” which could be used to locate a bud if you left it on your desk by accident and can’t find it. In such cases, the TWS bud usually starts buzzing/ringing softly at first, gradually picking up volume. We wish this is the case here as well because the last thing you want is to find the bud snug in your ear and start ringing loudly.

The next feature uncovered was support for Dolby Atmos. It will be interesting to see how the earbuds simulate surround sound. Headphones are ideal for simulating surround sound when compared to a simple soundbar or a TV that boasts of Atmos. Other features uncovered include fast pairing and touch controls.

OnePlus Buds Price

OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the price of the buds but has teased on Instagram that the device will cost $XX.XX. There is no information or a teaser about the India price of the OnePlus Buds. However, all the rumours and leaks will be put to rest once the Buds are announced alongside the OnePlus Nord on July 21.

Thomson to launch 75-inch Android TV in August in India

Thomson is expected to launch a 75-inch variant of its Android TV lineup in India. While the details of the TV such as its specifications are not known, what is known is that it will run on the Android TV platform. Thomson recently launched its lineup of Android TVs in India featuring TVs ranging from 43-inch to 65-inch with prices starting at Rs 24,999. All the TVs bring with them a 4K resolution along with HDR support including Dolby Vision. You can read more about the new TV lineup here.

Thomson 75-inch TV Expected Features and Specifications

Considering we have an existing lineup of Android TV’s from Thomson, we don't expect this TV to change anything in terms of features or specifications under the hood. This is just expected to be a larger screen size option. While players like Kodak, Xiaomi and more offer 65-inch as the largest screen size in India, TCL offers a larger screen size (75-inch) in its P715 4K HDR TV lineup.

Coming back to the upcoming Thomson 75-inch TV, the 55 and 65-inch TVs that have launched have a peak brightness of 550 nits and we think the same will translate to the 75-inch variant. The TV will run on the Android TV platform giving users access to apps from the Play Store including streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar and more. We can expect the TV to come with 3 HDMI and 2 USB ports for your connectivity needs. Other features like 2.4GHz WiFi only along with a 60Hz refresh rate will also be there on this TV as they are present in the 65-inch variant. The TV will also support Chromecast built-in and come with a voice-enabled remote control.

Thomson 75-inch TV Expected Price

The 65-inch Thomson Android TV is priced at Rs 52,999 while the 55-inch variant is priced at Rs 32,999. The larger the screen size, the more expensive the panel will be. This is why we think the Thomson 75-inch TV could be priced in the ballpark of Rs 80,000 or Rs 85,000. To put things into perspective, the 75-inch variant of the TCL P715 is priced at Rs 99,990 while the 65-inch is priced at Rs 61,990 and the 55-inch at Rs 39,990. Keeping the competition and past price in mind, we have come to the consensus that the 75-inch Thomson TV will be around the 85K mark.

Since everyone is choosing to sit at home during the lockdown, entertainment on the big screen from OTT services has seen a rise. BlackRock Android malware poses as fake Google updates to steal your data

BlackRock Android malware has been spotted online and can reportedly steal personal user data from over 337 popular Android apps such as Gmail, Netflix, Amazon, Instagram and more. BlackRock is a new type of banking malware that steals personal information but is different from other such malware as it targets social networking, shopping and dating apps as well as essential apps such as Gmail and Outlook.

BlackRock was discovered in May 2020 by ThreatFabric analysts who found out that this new malware was based on the Xerses banking malware that comes from the family of LokiBot banking trojan malwares. In its report, ThreatFabric states that the source code of Xerses was made public back in May 2019 and so the malware was essentially accessible to anyone who could tweak its features and release it. BlackRock has undergone changes and has an increased target list of apps that include many popular non-financial apps. Usually, banking malware targets only financial apps.

How does BlackRock Android malware works?

BlackRock banking malware disguises itself as fake Google Updates notifications that pop-up on the users phone. The malware makes its icon disappear from the app drawer and asks for Accessibility permissions. Once the user grants the privileges, Google Update pop-up messages start to appear with the bot granting itself the rest of the administrator permissions it needs to fully function.

After this, the malware can conduct overlay attacks and can steal sensitive information such as login credentials, banking details and more. There are as many as 337 apps that this malware targets and this is something that hasn’t been observed before with banking malware. It cannot be detected by any mobile anti-virus as it doesn't let the user open any security apps such as Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Eset, Symantec, TrendMicro, Kaspersky, McAfee, Avira and other such apps.

BlackRock targets Yahoo Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Hotmail, Uber, Netflix, eBay, Amazon, Telegram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat, Skype, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, Google Pay, Tinder, banking and payments apps and more.

The BlackRock Android malware is being distributed by third-party websites and hasn’t been spotted on the Play Store yet. So as a measure of precaution, its recommended not to visit untrusted websites.
