Call of Duty: Mobile Season 9 update teased to include Shipment map, weapon customisation and more

Call of Duty: Mobile’s Season 9 update is just around the corner and the developer has been teasing some of the features that one might expect. This includes a new multiplayer map and the addition of a custom gun skins. There have also been a bunch of leaks that suggest influences from Call of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Mobile New Map

It looks like Call of Duty: Mobile Developers now have a theme of launching a new map with every new seasonal update. But that’s not really a bad thing if you ask us. This time around, the developers have teased another classic map and the internet sleuths were quick to deduce it as Shipment. This classic map was first introduced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and is a relatively small map with only a few shipping containers as barriers between players. The small size usually results in some hectic firefights during team deathmatches.

The Call of Duty: Mobile developers have also teased the introduction of a new option wherein players will be able to customize the look of their favourite weapons. The new addition seems to be in line with the ‘Gun Smith’ option that PUBG Mobile added a while back. However, it is not yet known what sort of customisation options will be available to players.

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) July 25, 2020 Call of Duty: Warzone influences

Of course, Call of Duty: Mobile isn’t the only game currently on Activision’s platter, They also have Call of Duty: Warzone, a free to play battle royale game available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It also seems like some features from Warzone will be coming to Call of Duty: Mobile’s Battle Royal mode. This would include adding hovering names above map locations, which would make it easier to locate areas when jumping off the plane. Reddit user, u/sharoop_dixit has posted a video of the same which was taken from the public test beta of the game.

Call of Duty: Mobile's Season 8 update should also feature other new additions like new weapon skins, characters and more. Activation has not yet confirmed when the new update will arrive for Call of Duty: Mobile, but it should land sometime around the first week of August.

Indian government bans 47 Chinese apps, 275 more including PUBG Mobile and Resso under the radar

The Indian government has banned 47 more apps in which some are allowing access to the previously banned apps, and some are simply clones of these apps. To recall, the Indian Ministry of Electronics and IT's (MEITY) banned 59 Chinese apps on national security grounds amid geopolitical tensions between India and China. The ban took place late last month where many popular apps like TikTok, WeChat, Shareit, UC Browser and more were restricted. That ban was announced under the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act to "protect national interest and security".

The new ban comes as a follow up where apps that provide access to previously banned apps are in the spotlight. Also, many cloned lite versions of the banned apps have been spotted including TikTok Lite, Helo Lite, ShareIt Lite, Bigo Lite and VFY Lite, which are reportedly unavailable on Google Play Store. A Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology official said, "The apps were found to be operating despite the ban via these versions. They have been taken down from application stores."

TechCrunch reports that one of the newly banned apps will include CamScanner Advanced, which is a popular document scanning app. Economic Times reports that Indian government has listed 275 Chinese apps from Chinese internet companies to examine for any violation of national security and user privacy. As per the report, the list includes PUBG Mobile by Tencent, Zili by Xiaomi, AliExpress by Alibaba and newly launched apps like Resso and Ulike by Bytedance, which also owns TikTok. There are 14 Mi apps by Xiaomi in the list among some other unpopular ones that the company owns. Apps from other Chinese internet and tech majors like Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Netease Games, Yoozoo Global are also present.

Government is taking steps

An official told Economic Times, "the government may ban all, some or none from the list." Another senior official told that government is looking to frame a process for such bans, and the concerned ministry is asked to take necessary steps to form some form of law or regulation to scrutinize such apps consistently. "A set of rules or defined procedures may take time but is the correct process to go about it in the future," the official Told ET.

An official from Meity said the government would follow a due process before deciding to ban any app. “There is a process involved, there is a committee in place for such ban orders. If there is such an order, then Meity will act,” the person said. The committee has representatives from the ministries of home affairs, electronics and IT, information & broadcasting and law & justice, along with officials from CERT-In.

We do not have a complete list of 47 banned apps as of now. We will be updating the article as soon as we have more information about the banned apps.

Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones with noise cancellation launching in India on August 6

If you are looking to invest in a pair of premium true wireless earphones then we say you should hold off for a few days. Sony is going to launch its flagship true wireless earphones, the WF-1000XM3 in India on August 6. A “notify me” page is live on Amazon.in listing the features and specifications of the Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones. Internationally, the earphones are priced at about Rs 20,000 approx. directly converted, and we think the sub 20k price point is where the headset will launch. The flagship feature of the headset is its noise-cancelling ability. Let’s dive deep into the specifications and features of the Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones.

Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones features and specifications

As you’ve probably guessed by now, the Sony WF-1000XM3 are a pair of truly wireless earphones and bring with them Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor, QN1e. They have an overall claimed battery life of 32-hours without noise cancellation and 24 hours with noise cancellation.  The earphones themselves have 6 hours of battery life with three more charges stored in the case. The earphones also support quick charge, giving users 90 minutes of playback with 10 min charge.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones come with touch controls and also support virtual assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. Just like its bigger sibling, the Sony WH-1000XM3 (review), the wireless earphones also bring with them a bunch of modes such as Quick Attention Mode giving you the ability to talk to and listen to people around you without removing the earphones,  Wear Detection, which stops the music when you remove the earphones, Ambient sound mode and more.

We have spent some time with the earphones and can tell you that the quality of audio and noise cancellation is pretty good. The only downside is that the earphones are not water-resistant, so you cant wear them in the gym. You can check out our impressions of the Sony WF-1000XM3 here.

If you have a budget of about 10k, then you can check out the Sony WF-XB700 Truly wireless earphones. In our review, we noted that “priced at Rs 9,990, the Sony WF-XB700 Extra Bass true wireless earphones are quite a compelling purchase, especially for those who enjoy a bass-forward sound profile. Nevertheless, they do miss out on features such as ANC, touch controls, and EQ customisation. While we don’t expect Sony to add ANC to a sub-10K pair of earphones, touch controls and app support was something we sorely missed at this price point. Nevertheless, the earphones offer a rich and warm sound profile that will sound decent with many genres of music, they have extremely reliable playback controls, solid battery life and also have a snug and comfortable fit”.

If you are on an even tighter budget, then you can check our list of the best true wireless earphones under Rs 5,000 here.
