Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime is confirmed to feature a Full HD+ display, as revealed by Manu Kumar Jain, Global VP and MD of Xiaomi. The Redmi 9 Prime is scheduled to launch on August 4 in India as the latest phone in the company’s budget segment. The phone has been teased to feature a Full HD+ display with a waterdrop notch and it looks like the Redmi 9 Prime is going to be a lot more similar to the Redmi 9 that was launched earlier last month.
The Redmi 9 series succeeds the Redmi 8 lineup from last year that aims to offer value for money phones for people who are on a tight budget. While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed any specifics about its upcoming smartphone, the Redmi 9 Prime is expected to come with Full HD+ display with a waterdrop notch cutout and splash-resistance. There are speculations that the Redmi 9 Prime could be a rebranded version of the Redmi 9 with some India-centric features.
Xiaomi Redmi 9 specificationsXiaomi Redmi 9 features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display with a waterdrop notch cutout for the selfie camera. The screen is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection. The phone is 9.1mm thick and weighs at 198 grams.
It is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with an octa-core CPU and Mali-G52 GPU and runs on MIUI 12 which is based on Android 10. This is paired with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage options to choose from. There's also an option to increase the phone's storage further by using microSD cards of up to 512GB.
The Redmi 9 features a quad-camera setup that consists of a primary 13MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field-of-view, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is an 8MP selfie camera housed within the waterdrop notch cutout.
The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the back and comes with a 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging out-of-the-box.
Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 9 in China at CNY 799 (roughly Rs 8,500) for its 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option. In Europe, the Redmi 9 starts at EUR 149 for the base variant and EUR 169 for the 4GB RAM variant. The phone comes in three colours-- Grey, Green and Purple.

Apple iPhone 12 is officially delayed by a few weeks
Apple iPhone 12 lineup is officially confirmed to be delayed by a few weeks, the company revealed during its earnings call for the third quarter. Previously, in its Q3 earnings call, Qualcomm had hinted that its Q4 earnings projection could witness a partial impact from the delayed launch of a “global 5G flagship phone”.
Luca Maestri, Chief Financial Officer at Apple said, “Last year we started selling new iPhones in late September, this year we expect supply to be available a few weeks later.” The delay in the availability of the new iPhone lineup can be traced to the Coronavirus pandemic that impacted the production lines as the supply chain was not running at full capacity. The delay in launch could also be due to the deferred shipment of 5G chips from Qualcomm and the next iPhones are rumoured to be 5G-ready.
Moreover, reliable tipster Jon Prosser has revealed that the iPhone 12 alongside new iPads would likely be available sometime in October. Having said that, a few weeks of delay isn’t particularly new for Apple as we have seen a similar approach when the company announced the iPhone X and iPhone XR.
Apple iPhone 12 leaked specificationsApple iPhone 12 is rumoured to feature a 5.4-inch display with a smaller Face ID notch cutout on the front giving it a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. All the Apple is preparing to announce this year will feature OLED screens and will be powered by A14 Bionic chipset with 5G support.
Previous leaks have also hinted that the new iPhones for 2020 will be priced aggressively, with the iPhone 12 starting at $649. The iPhone 12 Max is expected to be priced starting at $749 while the other two models, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are rumoured to come with triple camera setup along with a LiDAR sensor like the one on the recently launched iPad Pro. Both the phones are expected to feature a high 120Hz refresh rate as well. The iPhone 12 Pro could start from $999 while the larger 12 Pro Max is said to be priced at $1099.
Recently, Apple started a survey with a limited group of users about how they use their power adapters provided in-the-box amidst rumours that the company won’t be shipping a charging adapter with the iPhone 12. Apple is reportedly developing a 20W fast charging solution for the new iPhones and the adapter is rumoured to be sold separately.
