Microsoft Xbox Series S has leaked once again

The next-gen consoles are just around the corner and while Sony has shown off the design of the PS5 and the PS5 digital edition, Microsoft has only shown off the Xbox Series X. However, numerous leaks have hinted at the existence of the Series S including Microsoft's own internal documents. The less powerful Series S has the codename, Lockhart. New information has emerged suggesting the existence of the console.

Microsoft Xbox Series S has leaked once again

Twitter user Zak S was able to purchase the controller from a resale site and the packaging of the controller confirms its compatibility with the Xbox Series X along with the Series S. The Verge was able to confirm that it was genuine. According to The Verge, “Twitter user Zak S was able to purchase the controller today, and we’ve confirmed it’s genuine”. The Verge goes on to highlight, “ the side of the packaging notes that the controller works with both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.”

Twitter user Zak S has uploaded photos of the controller alongside the Xbox One controller to show the difference. At first glance, it is only the D-Pad and the share button which acts as a visual highlight to distinguish the two controllers but look closely and you will see that the new controller has a slightly shorter and more rounded grip. The slight U-bend which houses the Xbox button on the controller is also missing from the new controller which has a more flush design. The only downside to the new controller is that it still runs on AA batteries.

We’ve known about the existence of the Xbox Series S for a while now. It is expected to have the same CPU as the series X but lower RAM at about 7.5GB and a 4 Teraflop GPU. You can check out the details of the leaked document here.

Sony on the other hand, as mentioned above, is only distinguishing its PS5 variants based on the presence and absence of a disc drive. There is no difference in power or performance. We know the specs of the PS5 and Xbox Series X and you can check out our comparison of the two consoles here. You can also check out our comparison of the design of the two consoles here.

Bill Gates is wary of the Microsoft and TikTok deal

Microsoft announced that that company was looking to acquire parts of social media app TikTok’s operations in the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand with a few reports even hinting at a complete purchase of all TikTok assets by Microsoft. Most reports seem to state that Microsoft is still in the ‘preliminary stage’ of the massive deal. But according to an exclusive interview on Wired, Bill Gates is not really a fan of the deal.

Bill Gates is wary of the Microsoft and TikTok deal

In the interview, he says that the deal between Microsoft and TikTok is a ‘poison chalice’. Harsh words! This looks to be Microsoft’s first foray into the social media business and will face still and ruthless competition from companies like Facebook and Twitter. The whole deal is a bit strange and complicated and the interview does a good job of explaining Gate’s position on the issue.

TikTok was almost banned in the US but disaster was averted when Microsoft made a pitch to buy the troubled social media app. The deadline for the entire process is September 15. Bill Gates does note that this is not a simple and straightforward plan.

In other TikTok news, the app was banned in India along with 58 other Chinese-based apps. In fact, Japan has been considering banning the controversial app as well. If you’re feeling the loss of TikTok, you can also check out Instagram Reels, which is an alternative to TikTok.

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 9 to feature Shield Turret scorestreak

Call of Duty: Mobile is prepping to launch the Season 9 update and has been teasing some new additions. This time around, the developers have revealed that the Season 9 update for the game will include a new scorestreak called the Shield Turret.

As the name would suggest, the Shield Turret lets you drop a turret anywhere in the battlefield. However, unlike the Sentry Gun, the turret is not automated. As such, the weapon has to be manually fielded in order to be used. It should also be noted that the weapon has limited ammunition. In order to offset these cons, the Shield Turret only requires a score of 300 in order to be activated, which is the ‘cheapest’ scorestreak and at par with the Molotov Cocktail.

Due to its rapid deployability and characteristics, the Shielded Turret would make for an excellent defensive scorestreak that would be ideal for gameplay modes like Domination, Search and Destroy, and Hardpoint. It can also be used in other gameplay modes by deploying it in chokepoints.

Besides the new Scorestreak, Call of Duty: Mobile’s Season 9 update will also include a new multiplayer map called Shipment. This classic Call of Duty map was first introduced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and is a relatively small map with a few shipping containers acting like barriers. Season 9 will also introduce Gunsmith that will allow players to customise their weapons as per their liking.

Security researchers discover over 400 vulnerabilities on Qualcomm DSP chips

There seems to be some trouble brewing over at Qualcomm as security researchers from Checkpoint have now discovered that there are over 400 vulnerabilities in Qualcomm chips. These flaws were first discovered on Qualcomm’s DSP chips (Digital Signal Processor). Basically, these researchers discovered that these vulnerabilities could open pathways for hackers to turn smartphones into spying tools without the person ever knowing it. This causes some major problems in terms of security and privacy.

Hackers can get access to a users data such as photos, videos, GPS location, and much more. To make matters worse, these researchers have stated that these flaws could also cause the smartphone to become unresponsive, thereby locking the users data behind it. These flaws and vulnerabilities were brought to Qualcomm’s attention by the researchers, according to a report. No technical details have been revealed so far by Checkpoint, owing to the fact that hackers may try and use these vulnerabilities for their own personal means.

Rocksteady Confirms The Existence Of A Suicide Squad Game

After years of silence Rocksteady Studios has officially confirmed that it is working on a Suicide Squad game. The creators of the iconic Batman Arkham series took to Twitter to reveal a teaser image for the game and the date for the official announcement. The game is set to be revealed worldwide on 22 August 2020 at DC Fandome, which is a 24 hour long virtual convention which will be showcasing everything DC Comics related, including upcoming movies, games, shows and much more.

The tweet reveals a movie poster-style image of what looks like a rogue Superman under the crosshairs of the grim supervillain special ops team. Back in June we had reported on the possibility of an upcoming Suicide Squad game being revealed soon, based on a set of new domains Warner Bros. had registered through the Mark Monitor service. Out of those, there were two that inclined towards a Suicide Squad game reveal - SuicideSquadGame.com and SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com. Based on the second domain name and the teaser image revealed earlier today, it is safe to assume that the game's premise will see players donning the roles of the volatile misfits and going up against the legendary Justice League.

Originally supposed to be undertaken by WB Games Montreal, the Suicide Squad game is rumoured to be action-adventure story game with an online co-op mode allowing players to create their own team. Rocksteady Studios has also created a special Twitter account dedicated to the game - suicidesquadRS, which we should be keeping an eye out for, in case of any exclusive updates or teasers leading up to its official announcement at DC Fandome.

In June we had also reported on a potential working title and some details pertaining to the plot for the upcoming Batman game being developed by WB Games Montreal,  which you can check out here.

Harman Kardon launches three new wireless products in Fly series

Harmon Kardon have launched three new products under their Fly series. There are new products in each of the truly wireless, neckband wireless and active noise cancelling categories. The new prodcuts are also priced relatively reasonably, which should help Harman increase its reach in the Indian audio market.

Harman Kardon Fly BT

The Harman Kardon Fly BT is perhaps the most pocket-friendly launch of the three new devices. Priced at R. 5,999, the Fly BT are a pair of neckband style wireless earphones and  they do not feature noise cancellation. However, what you do get is an IPX5 rating, a claimed battery life of up to 8 hours and a carrying case. The Harman Kardon Fly BT would be ideally suited for consumers who are constantly on the move, or need a pair of wireless earphones for their runs or workouts.

Harman Kardon Fly TWS

Striking while the iron is hot, Harman Kardon has also announced the FLY TWS, a pair of truly wireless earphones. The earbuds offer up to 5 hours of battery life, which can be extended to 15 hours thanks to the battery case. The case itself supports fast charging, which is a boon if you ever find yourself getting caught off guard with a low battery warning. The FLY TWS also comes with an IPX5 rating, which means a little bit of rain wont hurt them. Last but not the least, the price tag on these is Rs 9,999.

Harman Kardon Fly ANC

The most expensive of the three, the Harman Kardon Fly ANC are a pair of Bluetooth headphones with Active Noise Cancellation built in. Harman Kardon claims that users can expect these headphones to last up to 20 hours on a single charge. The headphones also support fast charging and 15 minutes of charge-time results in 2.5 hours of playback time. The FLY ANC are priced at Rs. 20,999, but can be found at a lower price on various online platforms.

It is very interesting that Harman Kardon has launched three new products at a relatively competitive price. Samsung acquired Harman back in 2016, bringing brand names such as Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG into Samsung’s fold, along with any other divisions working on experimental tech. Since then, Samsung has used the AKG branding to bolster its own IEMs, while the JBL brand has received a massive push within the consumer segment. Harman Kardon has so far remained a fairly premium brand, but with the introduction of these three new products at a competitive price, it appears that Hamran Kardon is vying for a larger presence in the Indian consumer-audio segment.
