Google Pixel 5 leaked renders reveal a conventional design

Google Pixel 5 renders have been posted online giving us our first clear look at the upcoming phone by Google. The company recently launched the Pixel 4a as its mid-range offering and teased the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 for a launch later this year. Noted leakster OnLeaks collaborated with PriceBaba for the Google Pixel 5 renders. As per the latest leak, Google could launch the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) on September 30.

It has already been leaked but, cause so many of you asked me to share my own, this is your closest look yet at which I assume #Google will soon launch as #Pixel5. 360° video + official looking 5K renders + dimensions on behalf of my Friends @Pricebaba -> https://t.co/hYFls0hQAJ pic.twitter.com/bpDYfuUTfT

Looking at the pictures, the Pixel 5 has a matte finish on the back which reminds us of previous-generation Pixel phones. The phone seems to come with a flat display and a punch-hole cutout on the top-left corner. The images also reveal the square camera bump on the rear panel that houses three cameras along with an LED flash. There is a fingerprint sensor in the middle as well.

The power button on the Pixel 5 has a glossy finish while the power button below is in a matte finish, the same as the rest of the body. We can also see a Type-C port at the bottom with speaker grills and there’s another unit at the top, just above the display.

The Pixel 5 and 4a 5G have been leaked previously and are likely to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processors. Google has already revealed that the Pixel 4a 5G will start at $499 in the US and the Pixel 5 is rumoured to retail starting at $699. The Pixel 4a 5G is expected to feature a 5.81-inch display which is the same as the Pixel 4a, while the Pixel 5 is expected to come with a larger 6.67-inch screen that offers QHD+ (3300 x 1440 pixels) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Google has also confirmed that the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a will be making their way to 9 countries in the first wave that includes the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.

In India, Google is expected to launch the Pixel 4a sometime in October which is when the Indian pricing will be revealed. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, however, won’t be making it to the Indian shores as has been confirmed by the company.

Apple seems to working on its own cloud gaming service, despite not allowing xCloud and Stadia

Cloud gaming is the centre of a massive controversy involving Apple with the iOS-gatekeeper refusing to let Microsoft’s xCloud and Google Stadia into the ecosystem. Primarily, Apple is not okay with cloud gaming services adding new games to Apple’s platform with the scrutiny and review of the company. Yet, at the same time, Apple is reportedly working on its own cloud gaming service.

A new patent published by Apple, as spotted by the folks at Patently Apple, reveals Apple is working on its own cloud gaming service. Titled “Enabled Interactive Service for Cloud Rendering Gaming in 5G Systems”, the patent outlines a blueprint about how 5G networks can be leveraged to provide on-demand gaming.

Apple already offers a subscription-based gaming service called Apple Arcade, and with all that is happening in the anti-competition front for Apple, now is surely not the best time to announce plans of a cloud gaming service, at the same time as Apple battles its key rivals from offering the same to its users.

At the same time, a patent filing isn’t a strong indicator that the service will indeed launch, as many patents are filed but never see a tangible outcome. The one in question simply shows how a service like that would work on 5G networks.

HP Envy series to cater specifically to everyday creators, launching on August 25

HP is expected to launch a portfolio of products for creators on August 25th. The company is said to be launching the Envy series of laptops which includes the HP Envy 13, Envy 13 x360 and the Envy 15. With the new Envy series, it appears that HP is seeking to fill in a gap that exists for machines geared specifically towards content creators.

Currently, content creators have to choose between Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup or high-end gaming laptops for editing purposes. There are very few laptops outside of this like the Dell XPS 15, the newly launched XPS 17 and the ZenBook Pro Duo from Asus that are specifically designed for content creators. While the new 16-inch MacBook Pros start at close to Rs 2,00,000, the new Dell XPS 15 starts at Rs 1,86, 072 and the ZenBook Pro Duo is also priced north of Rs 2,00,000. Needless to say, there is a huge gap, especially at a lower price segment that’s needed to be filled. Currently, cheaper gaming laptops tend to fill this in.

The HP Envy 15 is expected to be powered by Intel’s 10th generation processors up to a Core i7-10750H and Nvidia’s discrete graphics going up to GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q. HP is also said to be using a Vapour Chamber to cool the CPU-GPU instead of the traditional copper. Lastly, HP is expected to offer display configurations up to a 4K OLED panel. OLED displays aren’t the best when it comes to colour-dependant work since the colour hue shifts based on the brightness settings, making such displays a pain to calibrate. IPS still continues to be the king of colour accuracy thanks to its coverage of the sRGB colour space and ease of calibration.

The HP Envy is expected to cater to the everyday-content creator, hinting at the possibility of the machines coming in at a price range much lower than that of existing creator-centric machines. Given that it's an Envy, we also expect the laptop to follow a sleek and elegant design language, setting them apart from gaming machines.

Adobe Lightroom for iOS update accidentally deleted user photos and presets

Adobe recently rolled out an update for its Lightroom for iOS app and ended up causing major problems for some users. After the update, several users reported having lost all their photos and presets that were stored in Lightroom for iOS. Both the iPhone and iPad version of Lightroom are impacted by this bug. In a statement released by Adobe initially, the company noted that there was no way to recover the images or the presets.

The bug in Lightroom which caused users to lose all photos and presets is a pretty major one. Adobe has released another update since the issue came to light, eliminating the bug. However, the loss of images and presets for those affected is a major one. While it may appear like a major issue, it should be known that only those images are not recoverable which have not been sync’d to Adobe’s Creative Cloud. Anyone who had the offending version of Lightroom and found their images gone, can always re-download the lost images from their Creative Cloud storage. However, if there was a recent shoot that was stored on the iPad or iPhone that hadn’t managed to sync with the cloud will be lost for good. This is especially painful for presets since those take a lot of time to create.

Adobe released a statement, acknowledging the issue and confirming that there was no way for them to recover the lost data. Later the company followed up with an addition saying that it might be possible for some users to recover lost images from a backup of the device.

Adobe has quickly been moving its focus to the mobile ecosystem, developing mobile versions of its popular desktop apps. Earlier last year, the company launched Fresco, a drawing app that was created with the concept of mobile-first. Adobe followed that up with the launch of Photoshop on the iPad, a highly anticipated release which was met with Luke-warm response due to the absence of many prominent features in comparison to the desktop version of the app. Adobe announced that they would bring more features to Photoshop. Lastly, Adobe also announced that they would be bringing its vector program; Illustrator to the iPad, but will be reimagining the app from the ground up.

If you’re someone who is left with an empty library due to the unfortunate update, you may want to try restoring to an older backup so that you can at least get some images back. If not, then there really is no recourse.

Chandrayaan-2 completes one year in lunar orbit, has enough fuel for 7 more years

Launched on July 22, 2019, India’s second lunar mission, Chandrayaan-2 has finally completed an entire year in orbit around the moon, as confirmed by ISRO. Chandrayaan-2 was inserted into lunar orbit on August 20, last year. The Indian Space Agency also said that the fuel and instruments were all in great condition and should be able to keep the mission going on for the next seven years.

Today #Chandrayaan2 completes one year on Moon orbit. #Chandrayaan2 was successfully inserted in to Lunar orbit on August 20, 2019. For details visit: https://t.co/u9CUiuNJvA

— ISRO (@isro) August 20, 2020

In a statement to the media, ISRO stated that “Though the soft-landing attempt (of the lander carrying the rover) was not successful, the orbiter, which was equipped with eight scientific instruments, was successfully placed in the lunar orbit. The orbiter completed more than 4,400 orbits around the Moon and all the instruments are currently performing well.”. From what we can gather, it looks like CHangrayaan-2 is well on its way to completing its mission and more. In fact, we’ve got a handy guide to everything you need to know about Chadrayaan-2, right here.

Chandrayaan-2 completes one year in lunar orbit

ISRO also stated that, "The anticipated long life of this orbiter can contribute much to the current resurgence of interest among the global scientific community for a sustained presence on the Moon.”. How does a moon base sounds, people?

Even as Chandrayaan-2 is still in lunar orbit, ISRO has talked about Chandrayaa-3 being ready to launch in 2021, but we assume with the world in a pandemic, that mission may take a bit longer to get off the ground. Just last year, the Indian government admitted that the Chandrayaan-2 Vikram lander has crashed on the moon. You can read more about that here. And, just in case you're wondering about all the space launches that took place last year, worry not, we've got you covered in the video below.

Facing a two-factor authentication issue on Twitter You are not alone

Twitter users across the world are facing some issues with the two-factor authentication (2FA) system. Many users have reported that account verification codes from Twitter are not being delivered to them via SMS or calls and as such many Twitter users are locked out of their accounts while some user accounts also remain suspended as users are not able to individually verify their authenticity.

Twitter has acknowledged the buggy 2FA system, releasing its first statement on August 11, stating that the company is “looking into” verification codes not getting through to the users via SMS or calls. On August 14, Twitter gave an update saying that they’re “making progress” on fixing its two-factor-authentication system but didn’t give a timeline on the solution.

We have more work to do with fixing verification code delivery, but we're making progress. We're sorry for the frustration this has caused and appreciate your patience while we keep working on this. We hope to have it sorted soon for those of you who aren't receiving a code.

— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) August 13, 2020

As of writing this story, many users are tweeting about the 2FA system not working from secondary accounts or friends rallying up to the Twitter Support handle asking them about verification codes not being delivered to their friends.

Plz send verification code of two factor to my friend @akku_akku18 she hasn’t received any code. Its been more than a week. She is really sad. What kind of privacy is this. U urself ask to secure the account. And don’t give them verification codes. Plz send her the code..
